Just got a 1:64 die-cast of the #4 JVC Chevy. I remember my dad wanted to get it for me two years ago, but never got around to it. Now he actually has managed to and with it now in my hands, it got me to thinking: What series did it race in, what year did it race and What team raced it?

Can't be, he said Chevy.

^Thats the one. Oddly I never saw this car in 2008 so its weird that I just now saw it.

Edit:

After looking around, Team is Jay Robinson Racing, Unsure about the driver though. Either its Derrick Cope or Robin Richardson.

It's just a word though... You really can't ban someone for that long for just using a word that is considered offensive.

Dude, do you see the world around you? People get offended if you breathe. Doesn't matter if it was wrong or not, just by performing the act of breathing, someone will get offended.:grumpy:

Anyway- RACECAR, does the die-cast not have the name over the door? I know that used to be common, but I've been seeing some that don't. The pic above looks like it would be Robin's.

I know right? If the "Drift Princess" was in charge, Clements would be in jail already.

If NASCAR wants to increase Chase ratings, I think it's extremely simple, and the fact they haven't done it yet blows my mind. STOP TRYING TO COMPETE WITH THE NFL.
There's two options... every Chase race should be Saturday night race, or shorten the schedule so that it no longer overlaps with the NFL.
I'm not sure trying to compete with college football will work out any better for them than trying to compete with the NFL.

Eh... So long as the sport wasn't so directly aping the NFL they could probably get away with it. I think trying to transplant the NFL advertising model is hurting them more than the games being up against racses are.

2: I agree with MustangRyan, the 'Chase' is essentially a playoff format they use for every other Major Sport in the world, to say it doesn't make sense is rather silly.

How many of those other major sports are motorsports?

It does, but its one of the ones that is painful to try and read. Had to find a bigger resolution of that design mockup to see what it says, but it reads "Robert Richardson". I'm guessing judging by the fact that the only pics of this are from Daytona and that I didn't see much of this car anytime outside of it being white and sponsorless means that either didn't qualify or the deal fell through for future races.

It seems Jeremy said something about being Jerry rigged with a car or fence or something to that nature but nothing at someone in particular.

....... So was it racist or not? I'm confused.

In nascar's eyes, yea. I'm sure we all have actually used the saying but maybe same words. He basically said something was half asses put together.

Probably none... your point?
That motorsports are living in the stone age and need to get with the times?

I don't know what the viewer stats are on College vs NFL but I assume the NFL wins on a per-game basis.

I think they'd just be better off with a shorter schedule.
As many have stated, only double the tracks worth watching.
If they want to appeal to the public, they need to shorten race lengths.

People watch Football, and other sports for 3 hour duration, because there's a lot going on in between.

As a long time race fan, NASCAR use to have the same thing, even if the public didn't recognize it, I knew when a car got sideways, or 2 guys are having a shoving war, or pit strategy, the passes, or a guy working his way from the back, I saw each of those as it's own 'play' or 'TD drive' from an NFL game. But it seems as if this is no longer really true. Each year, the drivers are more lax, way too much give and take. They aren't racing each lap, they're just saving their equipment, letting people by. It sounds dumb, but there's almost too much respect, too much give and take. I want to see racing, and they don't start racing until 50% of the race, if that. Everything leading up till then is 'putting yourself in position'.

We live in a society driver by A.D.D. where you have to grab the attention of the audience as quickly as possible and find a way to keep it. Even the NFL, I no longer watch entire games. I watch Redzone, which is essentially watching 'highlights' of the entire day, as they happen. NASCAR needs to incorporate more 'in camera' racing, not follow the leaders. They have 43 cars to work with every week. Every single car should have a camera and a mic, so that we can see and hear everything that's interesting. We don't need to listen to 3 guys in the booth navigate. Even if we aren't watching it 'live' they should be able to put together a solid 'race' with all that data at hand within 1-2 minutes.

I'd be very interested to see how a broadcast of NASCAR went, if it were done exactly like NFL Redzone.

👍

I agree, it used to be "If you want this spot...Come Get Some!" I can see a little stradegy towards the end if you need to save some tire wear (long green flag run to the end) but this claiming to save the engine scheme is junk. I'd race every lap as best I could and if the pistons ended up popping thru the hood, I'd be looking at my engine department for answers.

Just seems wrong that a driver, on probation, threatens a reporter and only gets a one race suspension, but a driver who has never been in trouble, says one wrong word gets suspended indefinitely.

And that one word seems worse than wrecking a driver head on into the wall during caution...

Just watched the Daytona 500 from last sunday and I gotta say that the Generation 6 car is the best thing NASCAR has come up with since I don't know when. The cars haven't been this close to the original production model since the 80's, and they look the tits as well! 👍

NASCAR is fun to watch again!

And the best punishment for that: Parked for the rest of only THAT weekend.

Edit: For those interested to know, 5 of the 7 fans admitted to the Halifax Medical center have been released.

Figured I would listen to practice while I work. 3 minutes into the broadcast....Danica.

Didn't take them long.

Edit: then again 7 minutes later.

That 33 car. Realtree the sponsor? Regardless, abit busy but cool looking 👍

So how many of those other major sports can have their playoff games ruined by teams not in the playoffs?

That's a fair point, but it's the price you pay, when 'playoffs' can't be separated into 'brackets' like other sports can. No ones going to watch a 10 car race, no one wants to watch a bunch of 1 v 1 races either. No one will watch the end of a season, if a front runner has too big of a points lead.

Basically, NASCAR has already conceded that their season is too long. They knew that by the 26th race, people were losing interest. So they created the chase, to shake things up, and start fresh, and make it interesting as if the season was re-beginning. Instead they should have just shortened the season.

On the other hand, it's a business decision. How many viewers do you think NASCAR loses because of length? Now how many would they gain if they shortened it? If they can't gain more viewers than they lose by dropping 10 races, it doesn't financially compute.

http://aol.sportingnews.com/nascar/story/2012-11-21/nascar-tv-ratings-decline-fox-espn-tnt-daytona-500-olympics
Coverage on Fox, TNT and ESPN averaged a 3.6 Nielsen rating and 5.8 million viewers through 35 of 36 races (not including Sunday's season-ending race at Homestead)

So, 5.8M per race.
If NASCAR cuts 10 races, they lose 58M 'views'. (Non unique)
That leaves 26 races, to cover that loss. 58/26=2.23
Meaning, that NASCAR would have to hope they gain 2.23 million new viewers PER RACE, to acquire the same amount of total views in their existing 36 race season.

That's not even accounting for the loss of 300 hours of advertising from the 10 races cut, which would have to be covered by an increase in per-ad-price during the 26 season race, which they couldn't do, until viewership increased enough, to justify the increased cost per add.

Still, not accounting for the contracts they have between Fox/TNT/Speed/??? to broadcast the shows, and the money they make from them.

Tl:dr
From a business standpoint, NASCAR doesn't care about the viewers, and would make more money, with less viewers over more races, than versa visa.

OK, quick points:
-Glad to hear some of the injured have been released.
-We live in a society where knee-braces are required so people don't destroy them when they react.
-It may be a word, but the only ones who can use it and apparently get away with it are the ones who follow the word's modern stereotype.
-Just like every other corporation, they are in it to make money yes.
-Gen 6 looks great, Daytona was meh(they waited to damn long to move), but now we will see how it runs 80% of the schedule.
-I say he should have been suspended until at least the next year.

That should cover it all for now.

Maybe its just me, but the Cup cars seem really faster. Last year the cars seemed just lazy and hardly moving, whereas these cars already seem like they are hauling it.

lighter cars + more downforce (bigger spoiler) + slightly more mechanical grip + a car that was actually designed with racing in mind, as opposed to just purely safety.
