I am writing this letter to inform you that due to your sponsorship of NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer and his Michael Waltrip Racing team, I will be boycotting all of your products and will be purchasing products from your immediate competitors until you cease sponsorship of both Driver and Team.
On the September 7th, 2013 race at Richmond International Raceway, Clint Bowyer intentionally spun his race car to create a cation with under 10 laps to go in the race. This directly caused two of my favourite drivers, Jeff Gordon and Ryan Newman to be put in a position were they were eliminated from NASCAR's "Chase for the Sprint Cup" to the benefit of fellow MWR teammate, Martin Truex, Jr.
Clint and MWR have single handedly made a complete mockery of NASCAR, and the sport of auto racing as a whole. As a fan of auto racing, I find these actions completely unacceptable and I no longer want any affiliation with any part of the MWR organization, including its corporate sponsors, of which Living Essentials, LLC's 5-hour Energy brand is one.
For the record, a similar situation happened in Formula 1 in 2008, when driver Nelson Piquet, Jr. intentionally crashed his car to the benefit of his Renault teammate, Fernando Alonso, enabling him to win a race. After it was revealed that Piquet had spun intentionally to fix the race, the teams sponsor, ING Group, immediately withdrew their sponsorship. Clint Boywer not only fixed this race (which Ryan Newman was going to win), but also drastically fixed the entire NASCAR Sprint Cup championship.
I sincerely hope that I am not the only one writing to you, and that you seriously reconsider your sponsorship of Clint Bowyer, and Michael Waltrip Racing.
