My thoughts on the whole situation with MWR. It was a shady move by Bowyer that he knew he almost had to do (doing as the boss says) and I completely understand why they wanted it done. Truex has stepped up his game in the last 2 seasons which have impressed me but he wasn't the strongest car at times or whatever. Newman had issues, so did Gordon but they were doing everything they could to race in, which they should be doing and respectable.

If it were Bowyer pit like he did, ok that's not really that bad because it didn't really cost anyone anything as far as liek Newman winning or stuff like that which changed outcome of a race completely.

I know alot of folks are wanting the head of MWR now but they act as if team orders are new or haven't happened in the past alot of the time. The one thing, MWR hasn't exactly tried to hide it but never fully admitted.

I don't have that much of a problem with telling Vickers to pit. If Johnson was ahead of Gordon (not Joonya or Kahne, though), Hendrick probably would have him do the same thing.

Intentionally spinning to cause a caution and screw Newman is where the problem is.

A lot of people here are saying that this brings NASCAR awfully close to becoming an illegitimate competition.

Guys, NASCAR hasn't been legitimate since they introduced the chase.
Then again, you can argue F1 isn't legitimate due to the frequency of team orders.
At the end of the day, we're not watching racecars; we're watching billboards and business interests. Things like this will always happen if there's ample money involved.

Now, with that being said, NASCAR is going to have one heck of a board meeting. Going off what John Darby has been saying, NASCAR is trying to bury this one quickly without punishment.

26 down, 10 to go. Welcome to Chase for the Cup 2013! The "playoffs" of NASCAR kick off this coming weekend whether you love or loathe the Chase. Either you embrace a time of the season like this, or in the words of mi amigo RACECAR... "kill it with fire." Here is an outlook of this season's Chase:

--- Chase for the Cup: 2013 ---
Sep. 15: Chicagoland
Sep. 22: New Hampshire
Oct. 6: Kansas
Oct. 12: Charlotte
Oct. 20: Talladega
Oct. 27: Martinsville
Nov. 3: Texas
Nov. 10: Phoenix
Nov. 17: Homestead-Miami

The only true night race is the Charlotte event, which starts at 7:46 PM Eastern; and it is also the only ABC-televised event of the Chase. All others are on ESPN.

Let me discuss the Chase format as I understand and perceive it. You all may need to set me straight (fix) my opinions if I screw something up. Anyhow... here goes. The way I have understood the Chase format, it was created to bring more merit to what a true champion was. I think the 2003 Cup Champion, Matt Kenseth, won the championship by winning a grand total of one race. Maybe the mindset was on a real champion as one who wins races rather than just lead the points. So the Chase was created. Take the best (and perhaps luckiest) drivers this season, skyrocket their points so it comes down to those top drivers, and let them battle it out to determine the champion. Again- this is how I perceive the Chase format. Feel free to fix any thoughts of mine or agree/disagree.

All of us can debate what tracks should and should not be featured as part of the Chase format. The way I've seen it, the Chase is more like a nationwide tour of ten races to close out the season. The chosen venues all make up most of the individual parts of the nation where NASCAR races. Only exception is, of course, the Pacific Northwest (unless you count Sonoma Raceway as the Pacific Northwest). I would trade certain tracks for others in the same vincinity as some of these tracks, but we know that's probably not going to happen. Like if I could, I would have NASCAR race at tracks like Virginia International Raceway, Road Atlanta, or even Sebring. You already have different ovals of various lengths. Why not add a road course to the Chase like the two Cup races every year?

Whatever you think about the Chase for the Cup, that's up to you to decide and debate on. The Chase action begins this coming weekend. All three major NASCAR series will be enjoying Midwestern hospitality at Chicagoland Speedway this weekend.

Ryan Newman goes to RCR (Will drive the #31).

Brian Scott's for Chicago, maybe?

Well, now we know Childress was basically whispering "Good luck tonight", or something like that, to Newman before Saturday's race.

Have a question. I heard Kurt Busch will be driving for Stewart-Haas Racing but what car number will he have next season?

The number hasn't been determined yet.

Edit: Andy Hillenburg closed Rockingham Speedway today. He ran out of funding to keep the track operating. The ARCA race that was going to be run there has been cancelled.

SHR put an application to NASCAR for the 00 car number in 2014.

If this is anything to by: 4 (Harvick) + 10 (Danica) = 14 (Stewart) then it looks like the 00 is for Kurt Busch if they get it.

That sucks. I was really hoping to see Nationwide come back and do a double header weekend with the truck series.

My mistake on the Rockingham news.

K&N East race cancelled due to obligations not being met. Edit: There's probably more to it, but that's the only news from today. (Rumor is tomorrow it will be announced that it's closing.)

Edit2: This was the tweet that I originally saw. https://twitter.com/ESPNMcGee/status/377167359884021760

Also, just announced that NASCAR is having a press conference tonight at 8:15pm, so in just about 70 minutes from now.

Check the edits. It appears I wasn't completely wrong on it. :dunce:

Edit: Other racing series have cancelled their events at The Rock in November as well.

If it was just one series, it would be a problem either with the series or the track. Multiple series at the same track = track is closing.

BREAKING: Newman in, Truex out among MWR penalties. 300k MWR fine. All 3 drivers docked 50 points. Ty Norris suspended indefinitely.

I wonder if that press conference will be on Fs1. If it was still SPEED, yup it sure would.

The timing is difficult for TV or radio feeds to be set up for the press conference on such short notice. NASCAR only announced the press conference a little over an hour ago.

Bowyer's penalty is 50 points before the reset, which means he doesn't get penalized. Good job NASCAR!

Newman has the slot because of the win at Indy, while Jeff has no wins to fall back on. If I'm reading this correctly with the 50 point fine before the reset, Bowyer essentially doesn't get penalized for direct involvement!? 👎 :grumpy: He should also be disqualified from the Chase with Gordon taking his place.
