Yea, but the front of the car is comprised of more than a wheel and an engine. I've yet to see or hear of body panels, suspension components, the other wheel, etc. That could have injured someone.

I don't think this wheel came from Larson's car because it went to the top of the lower tier of the stand so I think it was from a car on the grass, Larson's debris would've stayed closer to the wall I reckon.
I wonder if this track has an updated catch fence like what they did to talladega after Edwards big wreck there a few years ago because it looked a little weak.
The biggest hope we have is that no one took a direct hit from flying debris. The stands weren't packed, so it's at least possible that flying car parts could land and bounce without killing someone.
That's just stunning. That many people and thats the only amount of injuries we're hearing about? Unbelieveable. Just hope the ones in critical condition are alright.
I don't normally take any interest in NASCAR, however a mate posted a link to the crash on facebook. That was horrific, hope that there haven't been any serious injuries and I wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured. Hope all drivers were ok also.
Motorsport will always be dangerous, for both spectators and competitors, its inherent to a sport where the aim is to go as fast as possible. The risks can be reduced by taking safety precautions however there will always be the possibility for freak accidents.
I know it wasn't totally the car's fault. But that two car push has got the drivers on pins and needles when gets down to crunch time. Nationwide needs a Gen 6-esque car like sprint cup now.
It's not anyones fault really. They have it as safe as possible and accidents like we saw today are going to happen. Nobody expected an engine to land behind the fence. No one expected a tire to be up in the grandstands. It's not what anyone wanted to see. You have cars doing upward of 190MPH feet away from spectators..they have the safety part of the equation they just can't control incidents like what happened today.
