There's ways around that. The cup cars look like they stay down, even with their lack of downforce. More flaps and other things to extract the air from under the car before it causes it to lift.
 
Wow. Missed the race and just got caught up now. That was brutal. Hope all involved are ok. It could've been far worse.

New Gen 6 cars do have HUGE flaps. But point is, you can't legislate for every type of collision and accident. These crashes will always happen.

If they can keep the cars off of each other, there's much less of a chance of these massive pileups.
 
I'm not so sure less downforce can prevent this kind of wreck. When you look at the extreme, abrupt angle that Kyle's car took towards the wall and as he hit, it only took off after it made that extreme angle and hit another car.

Looks like that new Titan drying system will get its first test if that holds true.
 
So with the exception of the one critical everything is pretty much alright..?
 
The safety in the car was good, but the Catch fence is what failed... I'm betting they will be double checking and re-enforcing that real soon.

6 fans were taken to the hospital as trauma patients with serious injuries.

Also, Michael Annett has bruising on his chest, so he's had a CT scan done. No further word on him other than he's awake and alert.

It will be cool the first time, but I hope it's not needed more than that. At least I have Monday off as well if it comes to that.👍
 
Less downforce won't do anything, its not about downforcw, its about how a car acts when its going in a direction it shouldn't, or being picked up off the ground by the front of another car. As happened on 99% of all the airborne wrecks of the past 10 years.

And reality is nothing can be done to fix this, but I'm seeing the same reaction over this as on gun laws. Instead of solving everything by banning and nerfing everything why don't we sit down, let the professionals figure it out and see what can be done to fix the bad part while still keeping the goo parts. Lets be honest before that last 1/4 lap that was an exciting race and if it wasn't for the car breaking the fence we'd all be cheering at how awesome it was.
 
The feeling I'm getting from this situation takes me back to dale's crash 2001, nobody knew if he was alive or dead...

That actually made a little bit of sense. They should come up with a better way to stop these cars from going into the grandstands.
 
I didn't see a car go into the stands... I think the catch fence mostly did it's job. Sure some parts came off and went flying, but the car stayed on the right side of the fence.
 
The whole front end went on the other side of the fence, and on Speedcenter, I believe they said some debris even ended up on the second level of stands.
 
Sorry but Daily Mail here in UK has posted a report. 🤬 wrong of them to post pictures of injured fans though. 🤬.

I'll PM anyone link if people wants to look, but its totally wrong tbh.

You've missed my point. If the cars can't push each other because they can't get close enough to push each other because the lack of downforce won't let them, then this nonsense won't happen.

If they really want to end tandem drafting, they just need to make the bumpers so that they don't line up straight. It's the easiest and most effective solution.

The nationwide cars bumpers don't line up either. The best thing to do is just remove downforce cause horsepower will make drafting more important and cause bigger packs

Well there is a better way hopefully coming soon. If it happens, Indianapolis looks to be the first place to have it.

Keep the debris and cars out of the stands, the cars in relatively one piece, and (hopefully) eliminate fatalities and serious injuries? That's the goal.
