But Waltrip's team is just run by a driver who once competed for Dale's team, while RCR is where Dale himself ran. ;)

I remember Ricky, but Irvan died before I was born.

Ernie Irvan died ? That's funny. I remember seeing him on TV not too long ago. Allison died before you were born is what I assume you meant. Still, Irvan and Allison were great drivers and both almost won the championship in 1992. If Allison wasn't killed in 1993 he probably would have been a contender every year.

Of the six drivers still technically in the running for the championship in the final race of 1992, Irvan wasn't one of them. If I recall correctly, it was Bill Elliott, Davey Allison, Alan Kulwicki, Mark Martin, Harry Gant, and Kyle Petty. The last three were longshots, basically needing all of the other 5 drivers to have early accidents.

For all the young Jeff Gordon fans here that didn't watch racing in the 80's and early 90's, you had better be very thankful that this guy wasn't around in the late 90's. Had Davey Allison still been alive and driving past 1993, the pairing of he and Dale Jarrett (later) in the 28/88 Robert Yates Fords might have completely dominated for a decade or so. Jarett managed to win a championship when Jeff Gordon was at his best, and I think Davey would have probably won at least two or three titles before the end of the decade.

Yates never had a bad driver until he got Kvapil.

Can't say anything about Kenny Irwin Jr, because he was killed in his rookie season and no one got to see his potential in the series.

2000. Irwin Jr.'s rookie season was 1998. He already left Yates to Sabeco when he died in 2000.

To add to the "Every three year someone connected to Earnhardt wins Daytona" rule, Earnhardt had originally wanted Jeff Burton to replace him at RCR when he would retire........ So all of you Vegas gamblers put money on the 31 ;)

Burton before Montoya any day. :D

Although I'm afraid his career is currently going badly downhill :nervous:

His career has been downhill since 2006. I don't think he'll ever win another race again.

Where the hell did you hear that? I heard originally that Harvick was slated to replace Dale Earnhardt regardless of his death? As for the every 3 year thing, I hope Gordon wins the 500. After all it was Earnhardt that took him under his wing and taught him everything that he knows now.

You're outdoing yourself ICEy me boy.

Also, Merry Christmas everyone

I think we need to go more 'direct connection' with this Dale deal. If we don't, it's likely we end up with some bizzare six-degrees-of-Dale-Earnhardt ordeal no one can make heads or tails of.

Burton would make the most sense then.
-Named by Earnhardt to replace him.
-RCR car to boot.
Martin would make sense too-Mark was "screwed" out of the 1990 championship, which Earnhardt just happened to win.
The only case you could give for Jeff would be because Earnhardt gave him "Wonder Boy" and I think they might been in some business deal together-which really doesn't amount to much of a connection.

As you seem incapable of taking a hint, here is the short version:

It is against AUP to harrass or insult another member. If you disagree with another member's point of view, argue the facts or prove their argument to be false - do not call them idiots.

Clear enough?

OK, I get that now.

Honestly. If ANYONE believe in an Earnhardt linked driver winning, then look no further than Martin Truex Jnr, who got his break and Busch series title with DEI (back when it was THE Earnhardt team), and he has always been a strong contender at superspeedways. Add this with his teammates (Mark martin / Clint Bowyer), two of the strongest racers out there, and you have a potential Daytona 500 winner.

Not happy with Earnhardt connections? Truex races for Michael Waltrip Racing, and we know Michael's history with Earnhardt very well ;)

I want Truex to win it just to see the outrage from the rednecks.
"A Japanese car won Daytona?! Forget this!"

Technically, aren't they going to react like that if ANY Toyota wins the 500?
