Danica just misquoted Brad.
Brad said he thinks of her as a 30th place driver, not as just another driver.

Last couple of times I remember a tire going into the stands multiple people were killed. If everyone pulls out of this its really a miracle.

To be clear, the tire went through the compromised catch fence, not over.

The highlighted replay shown on ESPN showed it go over the fence.

My prediction on the pre-race show, in chronological order.

Talk about crash & victims
Talk to Danica about crash & victims
Short piece on new car
Talk to Danica about new car
Talk to Danica about qualifying
Talk to Danica about the race
Talk to Earnhardt Jr... about Danica
Talk to Danica about her breakfast
Talk to Ricky Stenhouse about being a rookie in the 500 before switching to his relationship with Danica

According to Jayski the race starts at 1:20ET for those wanting to miss the Danica pre-race show.

Nah, this is TNT's version of broadcasting the 500 with Kyle Petty hosting.

That's cold...these people are paying their hard earned money to watch a race, the drivers in these series are payed a fortune, they have the best possible protection, the driver's whole livlehood is based on the backs of those people who come and buy tickets...who watch the races on TV and your saying the fans should blame themselves?

No, I'm saying when you attend a motor race, doesn't matter if it's NASCAR, F1, Grand Am, or whatever. Somewhere along the line and usually on the back of your ticket it says that the track and/or the sanctioning body are not liable for injuries during the race. And when you purchase these tickets you take the risk of being injured. Accidents happen all the time.

People saying the catch fence failed are wrong. It did it's job in that it kept the car on the appropriate side of the fence. IF it had failed, the car would have ended up in the stands. What really needs to be looked at after this incident is a way to tether parts to the cars. (aren't they doing that anyway?) Maybe it needs to be done better.

I don't think anything is tethered to the cars (other than hoods and trunklids and things of that nature). Wheels seem to come off an awful lot in big accidents for that to be the case.

Holy crap, they just showed the Gen 6 cars on NASCAR The Game. I'm totally firing up PS3 now.

So when Bobby Allison tore down 80ft of catch fencing at Talladega it wasn't a failure because it kept the car out of the stands?

Also, the tire went through the compromised catch fence. So did the engine and other large parts of the front end. Thats not acceptable. Its a miracle multiple people were not killed. If the crowd was completel packed things would have been worse.

For once I don't mind Jnr nation. Gives us a break from Patrick Mania.

A reason I created a separate thread for extended debate about her; or else it gets in the way of the rest of what we want to discuss - and there is a lot more to discuss and comment on about this season, this new car, all the changeovers, the undercurrents within the rivalries, etc, etc, than NASCAR's hot new Billboard.

Now . . . on to the Great American Race!
Smashing to see this great crowd in here - let's boogity, boys. ;)

Edit: I see that ICEYOU has made his pick. I'm going to agree he may be right.
*ducks

Catch fences today are better than they were when Allison was racing. Safety has come a long way. Incidents like what happened yesterday are the driving force of new safety innovations. Obviously a failure of the gate in the fence is unacceptable, but the fence itself did not fail.

Still doesn't change the fact that you basically sign a contract when you buy the tickets that you agree you are putting your life in danger. Anyone who argues against that should know better. And if you disagree then maybe you should stay away from sporting events.

Are they copying the Grid walk from their "F1 on Speed" Coverage?

Has anybody got a decent stream? I've just been watching all the race build up for the stream I'm on to freeze and then not be able to find the servers! 🤬
