That is the exact reason that NASCAR as a whole has been slowly dying. When you cut/abandon the roots, over time the rest of the sport follows.

As for the All-Star race, why can't they ever leave the rules alone for more than one year? Finally, my ideal schedule would have the following changes (using tracks that are ready to go) :
1. Shorten the schedule to 30 races a year, no Chase. 👍
2. That means no second races at Charlotte, Pocono, Michigan, and New Hampshire.
3. Kansas, Texas, Kentucky, and Chicagoland completely disappear from the schedule. 👍
4. First Texas date is now Rockingham; first Kansas date becomes Mid Ohio; Kentucky date becomes Road America; Chicagoland date becomes New Jersey Motorsports Park.
5. The
full versions of Sears Point and Watkins Glen are run.
6. The Southern 500 returns to Labor Day; Atlanta now fills second Texas date; Mother's Day is an off weekend again.
Then maybe I'll start watching the Sprint Cup series again......
Go to YouTube and type in "1994 Winston Select 500." Spectacular racing from start to finish. 👍
