It doesn't say what race he will run in the #81. I expect for Sadler to race in the #11 at Martinsville if Denny cant make it and Vickers to get a race or two.
 
Thank god Brian Scott and McDowell aren't in the pipeline. I really want to see Kyle Larson in the Cup sometime in the future.

Any chance Chip Ganassi could get a third car to move him up to Cup (in say, 2-3 years), or would Montoya or McMurray have to lose their job to make that happen? If Ganassi could make it work, a third car might provide more valuable testing data for the team as a whole, which desperately needs some help right now. One thing Ganassi always has going for him is that he always has sponsors signed up season after season, even with terrible results on the track. It makes me wonder if Chip is just a great salesman, or if Roush is just an awful one.

I think he was saying that if this was last year, these would be the drivers available to choose from the JGR Nationwide stable. With those two out of JGR now, this year's group of JGR Nationwide drivers offers a much better chance of short-term success in the Sprint Cup, since both are ex-Cup drivers.

Indeed. McDonalds and Target offer very reliable sponsorship packages to Ganassi Racing's Cup Cars. Target earns its money through brands and associated companies sold in its store and McDonald's can pull its own weight. Plus the link with McDonald's and McMurray is handy and memorable too. Larson is a very interesting prospect and I'm sure Chip wouldn't mind popping him in a Cup drive if he continues as he is. Of course we've seen what happened to Logano and his quick transition to the Cup and how drivers like Hornish Jr. didn't quite make it work first time so 2-3 years is realistic for the kid.

And exactly as you say to the latter. McDowell had a 5 race JGR Nationwide Contract and was pulled in to replace KB in 2011 in the Cup. With the JGR Nationwide program arguably the most rejuvenated this off-season, I have high hopes for a sustained 11 operation in the Cup given how Brian Scott never lived up to his hype.
 
Thinking more about it, Vickers really would be a perfect replacement for Hamlin at Martinsville if the 11 team wants revenge. Remember the fall 2011 Martinsville race where Vickers destroyed half the field and caused about 5 cautions? I know he's driving for MWR, but putting him in the 11 would probably terrify Logano for the entire day.

Also, what are the odds that the 11 car can qualify for the Chase in the owner's championship? There have been rumblings in the past few years about a team managing to make the top 10 without a full-time driver, but no one has managed to do it yet. The 55 came close with Martin/Vickers/Waltrip last season (15th in owner's points after 26 races). The 51 team is trying to do it this year with Allmendinger/Smith/Dillon/Truex. They are more likely to fall out as the season goes on though. Hamlin would almost certainly have made it in to the Chase as a driver without the injury, but his chances are probably gone now. But, if Sadler can post some decent finishes and Hamlin isn't out too long, there's a chance the 11 could still be in the top 10 in owner's points after Richmond. If Denny Hamlin has a great Chase, he could cause the first ever split championship in the Sprint Cup. How cool would that be?

FYI - Gibbs won the owner's championship in the Nationwide series last season even though Ricky Stenhouse won the driver's championship in his Roush Ford.
 
Hope Denny is okay but as for all you people blaming Logano... he did NOTHING wrong! The fact that there was no SAFER barrier was the issue here. Logano has nothing to do with Hamlins injuries, people wreck all the time. This time someone was hurt. Its very unfortunate but to try to blame Logano is just plain ignorant. People saying Joey should be fined for this are clearly not looking at this the right way. If anyone deserves to be fined after yesterday it's Tony "the hypocrite hair-puller" Stewart. Joey Logano has made it clear he was unaware of Denny's injuries when he said what he did and that he wasn't trying to wreck him. In fact if Denny would have given Joey a little room off of turn four instead of hooking him this may not have happened altogether. Neither of them was going to win Kyle had to much speed on the outside. I hope Denny is going to be oay and I wish him a full and speedy recovery in time for the next race. But to blame Logano for Denny's injuries is simply juvenile and ignorant. The fact that Joey hasn't called him means nothing. Why would he? Denny never called him, I'm know he wishes Denny the best but I don't see any reason for him to call him when he didn't do anything wrong/ They aren't exactly friends. I do think this may be the end of the Logano Hamlin feud however. I doubt Denny will race anyone as hard for a while because he'll be worried about getting hurt and ending his career. I know that Tony and a few others aren't exactly happy with Joey right now but really.. how many great drivers have no haters? You think any of the great names of NASCAR weren't hated when they first came on the scene and started kickin everyone's butt? Joey is showing he has what it takes and if he can keep running the way he has been it won't matter if he gets dumped a couple times. He may not be able to earn the respect of those guys, but that doesn't mean he can't go out and take it. I believe any driver should want the win more than the respect of the driver that they are racing for it. Joey just needs to keep performing the way he has been all year and he'll be fine. He may have a lot of people that don't like him but if he can go out and start winning and keep running like the past few weeks it won't be long until he gets the respect he's looking for in the garage area. One thing I truly believe is that Joey Logano gained a hell of a lot more fans than he lost this weekend and he showed that he's not going to lay down and let everyone walk all over him. Which is exactly what he needs to do.

Okay, long shot, but here it goes: What if Hamlin is cleared to race at Martinsville, but does not feel up to the task. Would he start the race and then immediately come into the pits to let Sadler jump in his ride? He would still get the points.

As long as a driver takes the green flag, he gets points.
 
At 4:58 in the Hamlin interview, they show an in-car view of Logano's car, looking directly at the driver and the steering wheel. If they would show the replay from that angle during the last lap of the race, we would know if he steered up into him or not. I'm sure we'll never see that video since we haven't already seen it.

I don't think Logano overdrove the entry of the turn like others have claimed. I think he got back on the gas too early for corner exit when he saw that Hamlin had the run on the outside that was going to win the race. Logano knew if he didn't get back on the gas right then, Hamlin was going to clear him and pull away on exit, and he wasn't going to have a chance to wreck him. The replay angle from the side of the cars (1:20) really shows that sudden acceleration from Logano's car in the inside lane very well. The replay angle from the front of the cars (0:20) also shows that Hamlin was still moving up the track and giving Logano even more room when Logano's car darted up the track and into his side, forcing him toward the outside wall. Combine those two angles with Logano's post-race interview, and I don't see how anyone can say that the wreck was unintentional and was just "hard racing." I can beleive he really didn't mean to injure him; but there's no doubt that he absolutely meant to wreck him.
 
The problem with Hamlin doing the switch with Sadler is due to track length. Unlike most tracks you can go 3 laps down during a green flag stop at Martinsville, the 11 car's chances would be ruined at doing anything during the course of the day.

There are less S&Ps now then ever. I think only the 44, 98, and 19 park nowadays.
So that means more slow drivers on the track, and if you are as slow as say, Joe is (About a second or two off the pace) on a track that takes 18 seconds to get around....... well, do the math.

Let's say he doesn't get caught in a wreck. He could finish ahead of anybody that wrecks, Danica, and Start-and-parks. He also has the possibility, if he does good enough, to get back on the lead lap. I'd say he could get Denny a good amount of points.
 
What are the chances that his doctor medically clears him to get back in a car in less than two weeks? I would guess that it's not highly probable.
 
Anybody ready to admit Earnhardt Jr's struggles recently (past 5 years) were due to the COT not matching his driving style?

Also Logano was foolish to give up on the race by just wrecking Hamlin. Side drafting was working very well. Very good chance he could have side drafted the 11 and regained the time lost from being on the bottom, just like he did on the back stretch.

For example, look how the 78 beat the 22 to the line in the following video at :47 using the side draft

Also look for the monster block Logano throws on the 99 at 1:33

I did some quick research and it seems these types of injuries take 8-12 weeks to heal. I don't think it's the type of injury you can rush back from either.

I'm also not going to waste time arguing who is to blame for it as both drivers have driven like complete idiots over the last two weeks.

Still though, he's not gonna be very popular among the fans now. He'll now the bad guy due to the incident even though he didn't intend to injure Denny.


Interestingly, I've noticed the amount of Boos Kyle gets are less and less. When he won Saturday, he had maybe one or two boos but the rest was huge cheers (the cheers you'd normally hear for Carl Edwards).
 
Well, I guess he's matured significantly from the Hornaday incident... although I don't like saying this because whenever someone else does, he's soon about to perform another childish act in the race car.
 
I've been quite surprised by the restraint shown by the Busch brothers thus far.

Well that's due to Kyle not acting like an ass anymore, he knows he can win and rather than doing stupid stuff and getting others to hate him. He just rather go out their and drive. This doesn't mean he still isn't a jerk from time to time, but nothing like he was a few years ago.

And yes that is my point, I know people will dislike Joey, but at the end of the day there will be a large portion that see it as one race driver racing hard, and over doing it. Joey was trying to prove to Denny that he isn't slow or some horrid racer. Denny has his own issues and has been a punk like Kyle and others for a while as well so...I'll stick with my driver who can easily be argued as one of the nicest and cleanest drivers out there.

I've been saying this forever, especially since Jr. had a real shot at winning championships then over now. Last year and 2008, 2011 were probably his best moments in the COT, and this year is looking just as good.

Like your F1 analysis, I must ask what race were you watching. Lagano's back end comes out thus the car was too loose/oversteer, the cars were racing hard and close and Joey's car ran up the track due to being loose. Thus the car collected Denny and wrecked both of them, the only thing Lagano did wrong was race hard and ruin his drive that day, he should have given a bit more room and more finess and would have easily been able to side draft and edge him out at the finish.
