You really couldn't. The winner made 180 points, plus another 5 if they led the most laps. Last place paid 34 points, so the most you could make up in a single race was 151.

Truthfully, the new system allows a driver to make up more points in a single race, assuming someone has a bad day. On the other hand, one bad day puts a driver in a much larger points deficit, relative to the field.

And it was possible for the 2nd place driver to score 180 points as well .

The big issue between new and old points is every position matters more, so less risk are being taken sometimes. The new one is alot easier to follow but keeps everyone from going all out alot of times because it's not smart points wise.

I am one guy that my mindset is push all race long, lead the most or be upfront but never just take it easy and ride for most part. I don't mean over drive the car either as you can still push without over doing it too.

The 2014 schedule was released today. Apart from the Southern 500 being moved to April, there have been no other changes. 👎 Also, the Gatorade Duels will be run at night.

At this point (apart from Darlington getting moved again) , its about pointless for the schedule to this series getting announced knowing full well they'll never change the schedule. Its their way or no way, period.

Again, 10 years from now when 90% of the fan base is gone either from old age or boredom/Jr. retiring (People were PROTESTING last year when he sat out a couple of races due to his concussion) and the new TV contracts are up, that's when we'll see actual changes.

I doubt we see any major changes by then either....

We'll only see actually changes when someone who actually knows things need to change is in charge instead of the moron who thinks every thing as it stands is just fine.

I'm very disappointed that NASCAR isn't changing up the chase tracks next year!

Fixed a bit.

These are the "hardcore" fans. If it was their choice, they would only have clones (all in their primes) of Dale Sr., Cale, Bobby Allison, DW, David Pearson, and/or Junior Johnson filling out the field and that's it. And because Jr. is the only link to those "Greatest of Days" they cling to him like a disease. Some exist around here, and they say that rooting for anyone except Jr., and I wish I was kidding, was a sin on par with murder.

I'm not going anywhere, I'm a hardcore fan and a Junior fan so, and am only in my 20s so...

I go for Jr. because he is a driver that does well and I followed him through his rookie years, I also enjoy Matt but I wouldn't call him a number 1 driver for me to follow. I always have a main driver and then secondary drivers that I like to see win.

As far as the old connection goes, I think they rather see a real sport then this gimmick on par with F1 (which I'm also a long term hardcore fan of). There is still Gordon who is the last person from the old guy era or at least raced the old guys when they were still in somewhat prime form like Dale, Martin, DJ, Rusty, and the list goes on obviously. What you seem to suggest is the 80s era, but I'd say the hardcore or what made NASCAR big in the 2000s and now is the 90s fan base and why you see so many that can recognize with Jr. and certain others. I was fine with him sitting out, why go out there and risk a chance at doing something worse and being put out longer, other have had to do it and didn't like it but that's racing, if you wanna be a cowboy I'd say auto racing isn't the place to do it.

Hornish in the #12 for 'Dega.

Funny, I always considered the hardcore fans to be from the 70's or earlier, those of us who remember when the "S" in NASCAR meant "Stock" cars. Maybe I am getting that confused with the old farts club :sly:

If I may interject something here:

I was just looking at the points standings. Want to know how much Danica stinks?

She has run all 31 races so far and sits 28th in points.

Mark Martin has run 24 races and sits 27th in points. (Tied with Danica)

Denny Hamlin has run 27 races and sits 24th in points.

Tony Stewart ran 21 races before his injury took him out for the season, sits 25th in points. (OK, she'll probably pass up Tony in the points)

That (the facts) is just outright sexist!!!!

Nothing to do with NASCAR, but she doesn't win since 2008, at Twin Ring Motegi Speedway.
(This shows clearly that Danica had a terrible run of his career since her last win.)

Jr. & Kurt's (Also his firesuit) schemes for Dega.

It's nothing but a bare white car with polka dots and the Wonder Bread logo on it. :yuck:

I'm a proud Jr hater... I might switch to Coke just out of spite. That stuff is gross though. Is almost rather drink puke than drink Coke:
