Do we get tired of one guy winning all the time, yeah. The only driver I can think of that didn't catch hell for it was Richard Petty, and it's not just NASCAR(see one Sebastian Vettel, or the New England Patriots). That's the only reason people hated Jeff and hate Jimmie, just like they hated Dale Sr. back in a day. Also, fans can be the biggest babies or biggest jerks of anyone aside from politicians, especially when things don't go how they believe they should. Also, is this not the forum that dismisses any track regularly when an unnecessary repave is done?
As for the 'Jimmie Johnson School of Beating Everyone and Making it Look Easy' AAA Texas 500, Once pitstops cycled the 48 was almost never out of the top 5, lead the most laps with ease, and of course won. Jr. was a distant second , followed by Logano, Kenseth (who did lead a lap). I'll put this simply, the only car that could run with the 48 at anytime was the 99 early and the 20 very, very, VERY late in the run. Something odd though, Kyle cut a tire at the end of a run, then Jeff's went early the next run, and I con only remember one more direct tire issue, Montoya's. I don't know what Edwards dropped, so that may have been one too, but it didn't look the part.
Now hear this, the reason I got to go was that my dad procured some gift tickets from a CAT dealer, with hospitality included. Free lunch, drinks, a pit tour, race ticket, and a free hat. Big deal though, A small Q&A and autograph session with Jeff Burton. He seems to be a cool guy, fairly quick witted as well, but during the Q&A he was asked about the current state of the racing, and said some things I wasn't expecting. First, that while the tracks with lots of grip are OK, apparently the drivers prefer slicker tracks, mainly because it means they have to drive the car as opposed to riding around. Not all that surprising, as it's heard with some regularity, but the second was the one that caught me off guard. Jeff mentioned leaving North Wilkesboro and Rockingham, then repaving Darlington just to take one race away, replacing them with 1 1/2 mile tracks, and stated that the racing has suffered since then because NASCAR has amnesia. Apparently, NASCAR has heard the constant droning, and has tried to make the racing better...by testing taking downforce and grip away from the cars. These test were "complete, total failures" as the cars were undrivable by all involved. So instead the last few test have looked at adding downforce to the cars, and the results were that the pack closed up. Problem is, NASCAR has it in their heads "faster, faster, faster" and keeps reverting to type, so no surprise there. Lastly, he thinks that the engines should make less power. Make no mistake, he likes having the 870 HP they make, but he thinks the racing would be better if they would take it down a bit, about 780-800 HP, and after thinking about it I think he's right.
Useless info, but maybe food for though for those interested. He got my attention for sure. His plans for next year aren't finalized, so being the professional he is he divulged nothing beyond not driving the 31 next season. Again, no surprise.
