If the rules allowed, then you would be right up with me. We drive similarly; the main difference is some fortuitous trail braking.

The rules don't say anything about me not being allowed at the moment. If Sony is "saying" that's the case, they need to get off their ass and update the written rules.

As far as the driving style, the way you have to drive to make the car go fast in this competition is exactly opposite of how I've taught myself to drive in the game. And I'm having a hard time unlearning all of that. You know me and my saving tires, driving "slide style" doesn't save tires, so I just never drove that way. I'm going to give this thing one last shot on the last day and that'll be it. But I fully support everyone that's supposedly not eligible as Sony is really dropping the ball on that part of the rules at the moment...

Driving style aside there is always the byproduct of a long grind "follow the leader" time trial like this being a pretty poor benchmark. I'm way ahead of you in the tables simply because I put in a bunch of work. But I know for a fact you'll beat me 9/10 times in a spec race.

The aliens will float to the top in a time trial and kick everyone's ass in a race, but for everyone "above average" rather than "Elite" it's mostly time invested/luck and has very little bearing on actual racing. It's much more "gamer test" when we're spending 4 weeks doing what amounts to chasing a high score in pac man.

To me, the hardest part was the time trial. Once we got to the national finals where we were racing head-to-head, it was a bit simpler and much more of what i'm used to. If you noticed, for the most part, its the fast racers that move on to silverstone and not the one lap wonder guys who just know how to TT. If this time trial were the only benchmark in the competition, it would be a poor one, but it is just used to whittle down the "field" of drivers to an elite few who show fast pace at least once, then halve that field where only the consistent fast guys continue. Then video gaming part is over and those with real life experience move toward the top. Honestly its a fairly great method of finding a fast driver. If there wasn't so much emphasis on the TV portion I think the competition would be even better.

After about 6 days break I went at it again yesterday with little success getting near my best time. Tried again today for about an hour and I posted three straight 2:17.8xx before finally improving my time by .045, to a 2:17:532. Watching the replay I have no clue how the lap was that fast it looks so sloppy lol :yuck:

I followed z06fun's ghost for the first time, I really liked his driving. Moved up 19 spots worldwide to 147th, but exactly 0 spots in the US.

85 hours to go....

i'm aiming for a 2:17.0xx by the end of tomorrow, then im going away for a few days. Seeing as it doesn't explicitly state that we aren't allowed back, then i'm at least going to give the time trial a go. I borrowed a PS3 for a couple of days, Day 3 and im down to a 2:17.6xx with room for improvement.

Is there any definite answer in reguards to us being allowed to go back? Even if we aren't, im still gunning for the top spot, just to remind everyone im here :D

I'd say until they update the eligibility rules on the us.granturismo site, go for it.

If they don't update them and turn people away after the deadline, they're gonna have a problem.

Last night, I ran a .545, which would've been great...

...if the lap wasnt' red from the moment I started it.

Still at a loss why S1 eludes me. For twenty minutes, the Z trailbraked just fine and then, nothing. I don't get it.

I have found that I need to start my turn in before I let off the throttle, then downshift and then brake to get the tail around thru turns 3 and 4 ... Just what works for me.

Don´t forget you have to adjust your braking point depending on how fast you did the last corner before that specific braking... that´s what get me all the time...

That's how I was hitting good S1's for a few minutes. Then it just stops working. The nose slides forward and if it does turn, it's way too much. I believe it's a byproduct of two things:

1. Left foot braking. I'm going too fast from throttle release to brake engage. The car settles wrong and it's difficult to correct.

2. The brake pedal on my DFPro isn't bungee corded.

I'm going to echo Jason's call for rules clarification because I really want to stop and rest if the actual cutline is somewhere around the 40s.

I switched to the G27 about 9 months ago ... That has helped with the brake feel. If you can borrow someones of G27 or Thrustmaster setup, I think you'll do better at the finals. I personally lacked any confidence with the brake feel on the Thrustmaster. At least the G27 is comparable.

*I also left foot brake ... Much faster :)

Dude you are locked in. Don't fret :)

So out of curiosity, is anyone claiming Red_Buggy or ATW_Hero? Looks like a couple new names that haven't been around that I'm aware of.

ATW_Hero is my new account. My ps3 kept freezing up while loading the GT Academy demo. So I borrowed my friends ps3 and decided to make a new account. Add EpicGonzago3 to the list of duplicate accounts.

Good to know, thanks. Now I won't be wondering when you are going to pass me.

Any new predictions on the cutoff time, I'm having an outlaw moment, getting all stressed out. :nervous::nervous::nervous:

Breathe easy man, right now i think your in:tup: considering the cut off currently is around 45th place. I don't see the cut off dropping under 17.8XX

I'm just dying to improve. I set my best lap 15 days ago and now I just can't recapture that magic. I've screwed up so many 17.3s now. I think I've proved that I can hang with the best of the best this year, and will look forward to next year and aim for the top spot. 👍

You should get a wheel before you turn 18. 👍

He has a wheel.

His goal should be to become as fast on a wheel as he is on a ds3 otherwise he is at risk of only making it to the national finals and going bust.

Sorry to speak about you in the third person doodle :)

You may only speak of the great and powerful doodle in third person :p Also, hi everybody :)

edit: doodle, i'm like 45 mins away from you now, karting? :p

Not chancing it when I'm confident I can beat my .645 with a better S1. Gonna hit that magic lap and call it a day. :)

I am right there with you ... I have been thru S1 .200 faster than on my current fast lap posted. I'd love to post a 17.3xx before sunday.

Same here. Sector one is killing me. All I need is one good pass through there and the 17.3 mark can happen. 👍

I'm still fretting it at my 17.655. I feel safe but there's still that question in the back of your head of if you could still get knocked out especially when you know where you screwed up and lost time on your fastest lap. I lost a tenth in S1 and slaughtered Copse losing about 2 tenths there alone.
