I've watched the replay of the penalty again. I have my doubts. Diego stepped on the defender's legs slipped and fall. I stll have my doubts. Opinions about this?

BBC pundits are stating that Costa was trying to regain his balance, hence him "stepping" on the defender's legs.

Dubious. Very dubious.

I agree, Costa stepped on the leg (while out of balance), then slipped... Not really what I would call a clear penalty... Very cheap penalty.

They showed it a couple of times here and the commentators were convinced he stepped on the defenders leg to get a cheap penalty.
 
Personally, I think it's 50/50. Yes Costa stretched his leg out, but the defender's leg was in this way and kind of tripped him up. I think the decision could've gone either way.

It was clever play by Costa. Unfortunately that's what modern players do, look for a leg to fall over or a subtle brush on the shoulder.
