Yes, like always, only the final one counts, so don't burn yourself out on the first few rounds.
 
I can only manage a 1.06.8 I lose time on the first few corners any tips? Thank god the first few dont count this car is really slow.

and nice to know cheers, first time playing GT6 and still finding out how to drive it.. blew a couple .4's but did a 1:03.681 so getting there slowly.

If you're learning GT6 then definitely don't waste too much time in the first few rounds, if I was you I'd be getting used to Nissan race cars, the 370, and the GT-R GT3.

Good to know. Thought you had to come top in every event to get through. I'm still trying on each i shave of a few hundredths of a second every lap so I'm improving atleast.
 
Got my gold medal by carefully watching and trying to follow the current world leader's ghost, CH tyres really are terrible, but they do provide a unique challenge, by making any old car seem like it's going way too fast to steer.
 
Im such a noob... couldn't find GT academy haha.... only saw it last night just before bed, so put in a few laps, but only a mid 1.04 atm.

Anyway, this first round seem to be all about being smooth, no harsh inputs. It reminds me of driving hire karts, the aim of the game is to maintain high corner speed.

Its amazing how quick you can get if you can then apply the same principles to a faster car. More power can mask bad driving, as you can get away with stuffing a corner, it wont decimate your whole lap. Do it in a low power car and it'll wreck multiple corners.

the first 3 rounds have no purpose really other then just more time trials.

Do you know what settings I should be using with the 370 to make it feel similar to the GT Academy one?
 
For me this makes a lot of sense. I think it allows non-fanatical or less experienced GT6 gamers a chance to practice the necessary skills ahead of the final showdown. If I were looking for RAW talent then I'd want to level the playing field a bit and allow people who say aren't students etc and don't have 24 hours a day to practice or people who have not played racing sims their whole life a chance to hone their skills for the final show down. If they are then/still good enough and driven enough to practice then clearly there is talent to be exploited.

This first challenge is a pretty good way to improve your lines, understanding of what makes a fast lap (i.e. smooth and high average speed versus sideways wheel spinning fury!). The less complicated a track the finer your inputs have to be to get those 100ths of a sec and the tighter the competition.

It's also great fun. I know I won't make it through, I don't have the time to dedicate to it, I probably don't have the reaction times I had when I was 20 either but I bought a wheel setup for this specifically....you never know. you gotta be in it to win it as they say!

On a separate note, I come from the UK to live in Sydney 3 years ago, I lived 20 minutes from Brands hatch and have done two track days at Brands Hatch Indy circuit in my old Subaru WRX STi. It's a great track to learn on, paddock hill bend (the first one after the straight) is really QUITE scary at full tilt for real on a slightly damp day with that huge reverse camber and blind turn in over the crest! I dipped a wheel in the kitty litter on the left hand side on one lap and its a lot more un-nerving than in GT6! Lol!

But unless youre up there and "good enough" how can you improve without comparing yourself to other people?
 
Question: does competing in the online qualifiers disqualifying you from competing in the live qualifying events? Thanks!
 
My best is 1:03.455. That puts me 16th fastest in Australia. Only 3 tenths off the pace and still not quick enough to be top 14. The Aussie competition is going to be fierce!

Alright I've given up I can't be bothered trying to reach top 10 this car is to slow. And it's going to be even harder for the final round so guess I'll wait till next year on the ps4

I might be posting this in the wrong thread, but what do you guys make of the idea that Australia would get its own GT Academy in (possibly) 2015? Would 2014 Race Camp Aussies be banned and I suppose it would be a PS4 only affair?

Not too far-fetched for it to happen. I'm sure Australia and New Zealand are big enough territories to warrant a seperate GT Academy from the International one.

If it does head back here I sure hope it's not on PS4 as I'm not ready to shell out that much money for another console next year when my PS3 is working just fine. BUT knowing Nissan and PlayStation they probably will to make more monies off us :(

It would make some sense, due to the isolation, but definitely not population. Even the combined total is less than most European countries alone. Also, Nissan probably wouldn't want to support so many champions. Of course, this is all speculation, we'll have to wait and see.
 
Ok, so after bathing my daughter having a friend over and having a few glasses of wine over dinner I squeezed in an hour late last night and bettered my time to 1:04:1XX.... That's not bad for a sleep deprived new dad at 11:30pm after a few glasses of wine. Perhaps at the weekend I will get in some sober and rested times!

I have nailed every corner at some point, just need to string it altogether LOL!

Weeellllll.....I am actually a Brit in disguise but I am a permanent resident and I have an Aussie wife and kid....does that count?!?! Seriously though, not sure how that would work out if I were to progress....I think however this is a moot point and we'll not have to worry too hard about that!
 
Since you need a copy of GT6 to compete online, is there a problem with grabbing a second hand copy? There's no game registration right?
 
A second hand copy should be fine, there was no online pass or similar.

I love how people will go for "this car is too slow" before they go for "I am too slow". Everyone has the same car.

Residency (not citizenship) is normally the criteria for competitions. Playing on an Australian PSN is probably recommended too. Obviously only an issue if you actually want to progress.
