If I had the money to run a successful operation, but then a driver came up to me and offered to bring the money from his sponsors, am I going to decline out of principle?

That strictly comes down to how good your budget for the project is, if your financial situation is great, then its an odd decision, as surely you would want the best for your team and therefore pay someone with proven experience in results and development,

perhaps this is a situation where the budget is getting dry, and the trade-off for Max works, perhaps we will never actually know, but it is an odd decision non the less,

No, he's bringing money and he has the right assets to fit in on the squad. He may not be outright fast, but he's reliable, and he was still talented enough to get the sponsorship and the speed to earn him an F1 seat, even if it was the back marker squad. If Marussia told him to bring the car home every race, then he was an excellent driver in that regard.

Seems like these doubts are based on theories anyways.
I still have doubts.

I don't think he is bringing money, he would of brought a sponser with him otherwise.

He wouldn't be my first pick but keep in mind he still came 4th in GP2 with 2 wins and 2 poles the year before he came into F1, so it's not like he is Susie Wolff or anything, he does have some credentials.

Nice Bugatti Veyron headlights ;)

Definately wasn't expecting that look.

I wish they ran with the bare carbon fiber. It looks much better than any livery they can come up with.

At least it would be a change from all the white LMP1-H cars we saw last year...

I don't think he would need to bring money to a factory outfit. What he is bringing is his consistency and reliability behind the wheel.

Exactly this, everyone is moaning and crying that the guy is going to be a liability? I didn't realize that Nissan had just hired Pastor Maldonado. The guy was one of the cleanest drivers F1 has had in a long time and nearly kept the car clean every race he participated in. No he wasn't as fast as Jules most of the time but the guy did a good job running and seems to have the needed ability that an Edurance team would want for long stints.

Someone who can drive relatively fast or consistent and not endanger the car and others around him.

Meanwhile in Aragon...

Now there are the folks I was looking for, good ol'Strakka Racing and the beautiful Dome S103. Testing in Spain, it's sort of close to my country, hopefully it will all go well this time for Strakka. I want to see the Dome in Le Mans, doing well in the LMP2 class.

Well, Sebring just showed them a weakness with their chassis. No track exposes weaknesses like Sebring does.

If anything, it should be a lesson that Nissan should take notes of. Strenghting the chassis so that such a thing won't happen again...

Was about to ask if that was their new livery, but I noticed it was bare CF.

They have run bare carbon testing liveries since 2009;

I wasn't reffering to it testing in Carbon fiber. I was talking about the front end:

They are definitely doing something new with the airflow around the front wheels. Blown front axel concept F1 seems to be picking up on perhaps? The new BHHs behind them are definitely there for...reasons, that much I can say for sure.

Or extra cooling for a powerful hybrid system.

See, the thing is, Le Mans is an entirely different automotive world than F1 is.

Nakajima didn't exactly shine in F1, did he? I wasn't really all that exited to see him joining Toyota. But look where he is now people. Arguably amongst the fastest LMP drivers currently out there.

Another example is Buemi. Yeah, ok, he did fine in F1. But look how phenomenal he has been with the TS040. Arguably the fastest LMP driver this year.

The same applies to De Grassi.

I think it is hilarious people judging his performance on LMP so early on.

The new regs are said to allow more freedom in the front aero of the car, seems like they are going for some kind of ground effects that stay within the chassis, and come out the rear of the car.
