It wasn't at the chicane, but after. Do explain to me how a car could possibly crash into him outside of someone literally deciding to steer their car towards him.

No offence to you, but you come off as someone who go way overboard with safety.

So you don't think making a marshal step onto a live track is dangerous? It doesn't matter where it is, he was forced to step out onto the same bit of tarmac that the cars race on. What if Dempsey had spun at the same time Hartley went through the cut through? Would that marshal be in a safe place then?

Yeah, he would've. Dempsey would not have hit him where he was standing. Be reasonable. No one was in danger, and as such, it makes no sense to disqualify the particular Porsche. Frankly, we should just cancel racing all together if you people are so scared of accident ;)

The moment you try to account for every single possible freak accident, is the moment you kill the sport.

A disqualification would be a harsh penalty, but he still made a marshal go onto a live track, which is dangerous. It did deserve a harsher penalty than a stop go imo.
You need to think about the freak accidents, if you dont then you endanger the drivers, marshals and the spectators. If you think that keeping marshals safe is killing the sport then you are obviously watching it for the wrong reasons...

And if he had forced a Marshall to go out near or on the track at a place like Eau Rouge, or at the actual chicane before the finish straight, you'd have a point. But in this case, you simply can't say that this marshall was in danger of being hit by anyone. Cars spinning out after the chicane is unlikely, and even when they do happen, as we saw with Dempsey, they don't quite hit the area where the Marshall was. Should a car go that far, the Marshall would have ample time to react to it.

Look at the particular place, notice how wide the road is, and how all the cars will ordinarily be on the other side of where he was, and going in a straight line. If we're gonna nitpick such tiny things that require a serious of extremely unlikely events to occur, then why do we even have racing in the first place. If a Marshall being forced out on the side of a road at a relatively safe part of the track is considered too dangerous, then surely, having very different cars going at up to 350 km/h on challenging tracks, should be considered too dangerous as well? That's my point about taking safety too far.

Fair enough if you don't agree with me, but concluding that I basically want people to get hurt when racing, is absurd. I just don't want safety to take on such a priority that it ruins racing entirely.

Which is why he should (and did) recieve a penalty. I'm not in any way excusing the driver of the Porsche. I'm simply arguing against people saying that the Marshalls life was in any way in danger.
 
Insane how durable these cars are. Almost no damage visible with the Corvette after the crash.
 
The Corvette is most likely out of the race...

Meanwhile, the GT class is providing some fun and games. I laughed at the "It's Alive!" comment regarding the Labre's problem. :lol:
 
#8 Audi in pits with problems, and Webber just posted the fastest time in the race yet with a 1:57,97
