Yes and if they are one of 4 manufacturers they make money by selling cars and spares... engines are leased...
 
I'm wondering, hoping really, if Ford's decision to contest the WEC might tip Corvette in the same direction . . .

Perhaps. I could see Corvette wanting to run a car or two in the WEC. They'd be separate from the TUDOR teams of course. Besides it would mean more "bullets in the gun" for GM. 3-4 cars at Le Mans is more favorable than 2. :P
 
And what is NOT their primary goal ?

How much straw clutching do you do? If they just entered the race for LMP2 status from 2017 then they obviously are ready to achieve that goal... as you conveniently ignore:

I would generally hope the primary goal is to make sure something works before selling it, be it a full chassis or technology towards it.

Corvette have built no more chassis. The Larbre car Corvette have taken back to the states for TUDOR, and they are building a new car for Larbre for Nurb WEC.

And no more GTAM! At the rate we are going its just going to be LMP1 and GTPro. :lol:

Considering AM outnumbered PRO quite heavily at Le Mans, I suggest you check entry lists more often.
 
No but I was SAYING...that P&M had a uh...decent...effort at COTA with the single car at that WEC race. Maybe at SOME POINT they'd think of having 1 or 2 cars in the WEC GTE-Pro category.




Am I the only one who wants GTE-Am to be replaced with an actual different class of car? :P Like have GTE and GTC (GT3)? I miss having two different classes of cars in GT... :/

2016 GTE cars will be a different reg set entirely and PRO only first year, so for the first time GTE will actually have different cars per class.

Oh yeah...+20hp and -10kg difference with some "few" aero changes...that's totally two completely different classes. :lol:
 
Combine with PRO line ups and it'll be a couple seconds though.
I guess I'm just reminiscing too much about when we had GT1 and GT2 (GTS and GT shortly before that) in the mid-late 2000's. Course it's a start I guess.

Don't get me wrong, I love GTE. Heck from the looks of the new Ford it's like the GTS days again. :drool: It'd just be nice to have two classes that have more differences again...for starters the names. :lol:

They should just go with GT and GTA or something like that.

^This! Heck I like this already! Have GT and GT-A like the PWC. It's not like we need another letter in there...we know they're GT cars. :lol:

Maybe we could do for 2016 GTS and GT (new regs class is GTS). :sly:

How exactly am I clutching at straws when they said it? Hope does not equal primary goal.

Now that they have submitted the entry we shall see if the FIA and ACO believe they are a credible constructor. I wonder if the current relations with the EU and Russia will play a part in this given that Boris is one of Putin's inner circle.

Generally you'd hope to build something that works before selling it.

Due to working with Tudor, Riley (biggest builder of soon to be defunct DPs) are a shoe-in I reckon.

Definitely. They and Oreca are the only real easy shoe ins...maybe Ligier too. Ligier revealed an LMP3 car which just makes me wonder a little. Do they deserve an LMP2 slot? **** yeah...and they probably will get one. Just wondering why they want to make an LMP3 too...if it's just because they want too that's great! Maybe it's a "just in case" thing too.

The question is...who will be number 4? :scared:

Onroaks contributions to P2 though have been huge.

Indeed chassis wise two veterans still exist:

The DBA of 2003/2004 still exists in concept at the Gibson.

The Courage C60 from was adapted by Pescarolo, Courage went out of business but the C60 chassis continued on in OAK and Morgan guises through to still a couple existing on the grid this year. Incredible life-span.

tbh, I don't see a problem with the 2017 regulations. Oreaca and Ligier are in for sure, they are the most popular choices, BR ( have no idea,) Riley ( maybe) It does seem like a good backup plan that anyone that didn't make the cut could make a p3 car or even a p1 car

Thing is it wasn't even in need of cutting. This year had Onroak, Ligier, BR, HPD, Gibson, ORECA, with Embassy working on resurrecting Tiga and Wolf also being worked on and a Pilbeam running in South Africa.

By trying to fix something that was never broken they risk breaking it totally.
 
Generally you'd hope to build something that works before selling it.
Having it "work" is a given regardless if they built it as a one-off or as a future business.

Id rule out Dallara being in P2, I believe they still have quite a lot to do with Audi's P1 program, given how many other things they build, having a P2 chassis program would mean something within the team would suffer upon adding to the work load,

Unless Audi pull out and leave Porsche upholding the flag for VWAG,

true, it will be a shame to see some people not make the cut. as far as engines go, it was way better to have multiple engine manufactures because instead of a spec engine. But almost all of the p2 cars except for ESM and Krohn are running a nissan v8, so we're nearly there on that part.
 
It's a shame to see that some of the current LMP2 manufactures are going have to give up on P2 because they are being kicked out. Gibson will leave and wolf won't even have a chance after spending so much money already.

How ever, I have heard that Nissan will be selling an upgrade kit for the GTR so it can race in the LMP1 category! :lol:

Like who? I have only just stumbled on this debate. If Gibson are one then Jota and Greaves are two of them.
