I think they'd need to turn them down a bit - they wouldn't be at their usual pace by a long shot.

Same reason that an F1 car wouldn't, and Usain Bolt will never win a marathon.
An F1 car would need an engine change after 4 hours or so. A GT500 car can do WEC race distance with no failures - they aren't cars for sprint racing.

They do run 6 hour races, that isn't a sprint (F1 is the definition of sprint). With durability testing and refining it could be done (just a note on the side).

For some actual on-topic discussion, has anyone heard more on the AsLMS entry lists for 2015/16?

Oh, and why hasn't Super Car Race merged into it yet? It's better than nothing.

I predict a crash, kinda like any other form of incident.
This is a point to an extent but if you invitationals then they have the opportunity of messing up championships.

Last year on of my mates was back after working away for 10 months and wanted to take his wife's race car out for a race as she was away.

It was the end of the year so all the series we looked at would be on their last races and I was given the job to find a race to run and no one would let us enter as we would have messed up championships.

If a GT500 takes out an R18 they lose championship points, what does the GT500 car lose out on?

6 hours isn't 24.

Yah, there are LMP1 cars that can't do 24 hours, and they're built for it! ;)

I remember one now (ex) GTP member who claimed it was all a waste of money and his Subaru could do the same job...

Technically you can claim @AJ that LMP cars should not be able to do 24 hours, as they race primarily in 6 hour events ;)

Anyways, the rest of that article mentioned that the GT500 cars should do an invitational appearance in the AsLMS (can it be the ALMS now, please?) instead, since that series needs some excitement and as @Holdenhsvgtr said, they would be starting the season instead of nearing the finish, and theres no big factory efforts to thwart or LMP2 teams to make fun of.

The idea definitely would've come under question if some of the Lexus' tactically impeded the Porsche's and Audi's.

It would be like adding 3 LMP1 cars that aren't competing for anything though. They would walk the show and the series wouldn't gain much apart from some more publicity, and gaining solid entries is much more of a priority.

Asking GT300 teams to run for points, as well as adding the Super Car Race grid, would give it the solid boost it needs.

There is no LMP1 - H its all under the LMP1 banner now!
And what terms do we use to distinguish between the hybrids and privateers?

Yes, it's not an individual set of regulations for individual classification anymore. That doesn't mean the set of regulations or the cars themselves have vanished off the face of the earth. We all know what he was saying, almost an entire page of truculent comments about it is pretty pathetic.

There's more pointless smart-aleck comments, one-upmanship and petty arguing over technicalities in this thread than actual motorsport discussion.

LMP1-H = Hybrid F1-like LMP1's
LMP1-L = Gas (or diesel I suppose) only, old conventional LMP1 regs basically

Exactly, the Rebellion and CLM are nowhere near comparable to the factory teams. They're LMP1-L cars...and anybody who argues against that obviously doesn't understand that.

Makes me wish there were a couple more races because everybody goes nuts with the summer break that the WEC goes on.

LMP1 L was only for 2014. For once @Holdenhsvgtsr is actually 100% right that P1 privateers should be called by correct name.

Or i can ask how Strakka are doing in LMP675 class right now?

Explain the Rebellion and CLM not being required to run a hybrid drive.
They aren't manufacturers. I don't care what you call them, privateers, P1-L, non-hybrid, it all means the same thing.

The gt500 @ Fuji's wec event was Bandoh san putting it out there he'd like to see it happen. The ACO would shoot it down obviously. Theres no reason to be upset about it either way. Some posts and posters have no idea what GT500 is like, nor the tech in their cars. They arent DTM. They dont have a single spec engine or tire. The chassis are made by different constructors, the aero isnt frozen etc. Just look at the NSX, mid engine AND hybrid. There were posters a couple years ago arguing that the NSX would be front engine in GT500 because its basically a DTM clone.

Itd be great to see GT500's run an ACO event. I think the main problem is theyre close to lmp1 private teams and probably cost a lot less to run. That would upset a balance the ACO has with teams spending in their series in a class they wont win. The money spent on a p1 non-hybrid to run 6 seconds off pace would make GT500 look like a bargain. Not to mention theyre 1020kg vs 850kg. Some teams would probably look twice and think "why not run a GT500"?
