My god, a Kolles won in the "LMP1 Essence" class, there goes my suspension of disbelief. :crazy:

But seriously, who could see that result coming, from Colin's Money Pit? After so many disastrous showings, they are now driving at a Essence winning pace. I'll have to give credit where it's due, they earned that one.

Also, the idea of a Lamp-1 sounds pretty hilarious if you ask me, haha. :lol:
 
Going to the WEC COTA race in Texas soon. Hoping Porsche will take another win in P1.

Just out of curiosity anyone else here going?

I'm making the trip to Texas also, looking forwards to this all year.
 
Their element is GT and TC cars though, so, meh, doesn't matter lol. Wonder what manufacturers are seriously thinking of LMP1 though.

If it really was they wouldn't have denied V8 Supercars when they're about to have a complete overhaul that puts the sport back to the ATCC days they (bmw) competed in.

Why? I mean I know this is a joke at them, but the fact they even broke news they were evaluating shows that something WEC is doing could further help them down the product line. And not only that but marketing and not needing to have a 180million pound budget like that of F1 to compete in WEC.

The problem also is when Toyota joined the WEC/Sportscar prototypes they basically proved that you easily don't have to have and F1 budget to compete and be competitive. Thus no other defunct F1 manufacture can truly sit there and say arguably the most technological series out there is super expensive.

Onroak is building a all-new P2 car for 2017. http://sportscar365.com/industry/dumas-onroak-well-have-an-entirely-new-lmp2-car-in-2017/ The current car will still be legal to use in the WEC thru '17 and the ELMS and AsLMS series thru 2019 so they should be popular used cars. The possible future partnership with HPD is interesting.

The German WEC round on FS1 had a rating of 166k viewers and a 0.0 share. The interesting thing is that it beat the Motogp race that delayed it's showing on FS1 by 55k viewers.
 
Does anyone know if they publish the amount of time each driver was behind the wheel in a given race?

They're never interested because usually they don't need to be in order to be successful in it ;) The Z4 GT3 was pretty half assed (The shape of the car is terrible for racing) and look how much it kicks ass. DTM, they came in, and conquered immediately.

To me, Porsche and BMW should be highly respected to high levels within the Motorsport world. Those are the only 2 companies I can think of that always come in and are competitive right away. They don't take many years, or even races for that matter, to get their stuff together. When they get in, they mean business. It's money well spent then. What Nissan is doing this year, is a joke. Test the car first, then when you feel you are nearly ready to race, you announce things.

More to do with the people running BMW AG. They don't have any hybrid road cars, so entering LMP1H doesn't make much sense to the higher ups.
To quote BMW Motorsport director Jens Marquart:
“Regulations in LMP1 are obviously new for 2017 but still, it’s very much hybrid and a hybrid championship,” Marquardt said in a media roundtable during last weekend’s Total 24 Hours of Spa.“At the moment, we see hybrid as a stepping stone. EV is the future for BMW as showcased in the ‘i’ sub-brand we have. This current setup does not fulfill our needed criteria.”

Apart from F1, BMW have won almost everything they have ever entered at least once; Le Mans, BTCC, WTCC, ETCC, STW, DTM, ALMS/Tudor, Spa/Nur 24, Sebring and the list goes on...

I don't know that being competitive in either of those categories is all that hard seeing they are both balanced performance wise.

Of course you also seem to be looking over their failed attempts at F1 and WRC.

Funny story, in 1998, both BMW V12 LM's were retired 60 laps into Le Mans as there were vibrations. They later discovered that their cooling setup was a complete failure and had to start over.
