In the race shop;

The side doesn't look too bad, though the 3M decal is covering a good deal of the rainbow. The big A on the front doesn't really work for me. The old DuPont logo was a nice oval that curved adjacent to the rainbow on the hood. Also the boxiness of the hood and fenders keeps the rainbow from looking smooth, which sort of bothers the OCD in me.

Something I noticed with the older races is how much closer the cars are to each other. That and the "toilet bowl" graphics for the drivers in 2005.

TBR has extended Alex Bowman's contract to next year.

Also, Landon Cassill's Sonoma track map is awesome.. I just wish it was a slightly larger image to be able to read some of it better.

Reminds me of someone's explanation over at r/nascar on how to drive the track in video games

Welcome to Sonoma!

way too fast into turn 1

cut through the grass

cut through the grass

jump over pavement into wall coming to Turn 4a

perfect excecution of Turn 4a while AI don't even come close to curb

Ignore turn 7a and cut through

Hit curb

hit curb and skid

slide in grass by turn 8

Finally apply brakes at turn 8

find out that's too late by turn 8a

**** it skip turn 9

KurtBuschTurn10.gif

use other cars for support whilst divebombing every time into Turn 11

Hit wall out of turn 11

Pancake wall flat out in turn 12

NEW TRACK RECORD

2005 Subway 500:

"Sony bringing you all new High Definition television coverage today."

Has it really been that long ago? O.o

Potential dumb question: Can someone please explain to me why NASCAR, in all their infinite wisdom /sarcasm/ moved the Coke Zero 400 from its traditional date as the biggest Saturday/Night race of the season, and possibly the first/only time for a long time that the date would perfectly lineup on the 4th (and cap their in-your-face military marketing)
and moved it to the Sunday night afterwards?

NBC wants it to be on NBC, not NBC Sports, and NBC has a specific fireworks show on July 4th

Thats kinda crappy. After the raging that Sportscar fans do when their races got bumped, I figured that day when NASCAR gets bumped for something dumb was coming. NBC screwed up already :banghead::mad:That sucks

So they move the whole race. >.<

Would've been the first 4th of July race since 2009, and we all remember how awesome that finish was.
I Kno right?? And something like this might not happen again for many years. NASCAR/NBC really fwats'd up the schedule really good.

There is that, and I guess its still unique in that its on a Sunday night. I'll just try to keep the 'Merica hype to a minimum

NBC is a nationwide network. NBCSN is not. Put yourself in NBC and NASCAR's shoes. Would you rather have the biggest race of the summer on a channel contained by everyone with a television, or a channel that millions have to pay for, therefore reducing product visibility and profit? The answer seems very easy, which is why it is what it is.

I almost wish it would rain on Sunday night so that the race ends up being on NBC Sports on a Monday when no one is watching.

The 2001 Pepsi 400 at Daytona is the NASCAR Classic on NBCSN right now. It is still a surreal feeling knowing just how NASCAR changed since the death of Dale Earnhardt Sr. at the Daytona 500 that year. What I thought was cool was the moment of silence when it was the third lap of a race in paying respect to that black #3 GoodWrench Chevrolet. It was about 1998 or 1999 I first became a racing fan, so I remember a lot of the different names and cars in NASCAR back in 2001. I sometimes think some of the main sponsors in today's NASCAR are still with those teams! Like I always know of Tony Stewart in the Home Depot car, but he's with the Mobil 1 car.

For those of you fairly new to NASCAR and have NBCSN, be sure to look at some of these past races to get a feel for NASCAR's past.

I never keep up with NASCAR anymore. Maybe I'll watch the next race.

NBC sports isn't doing that bad for their first day :)

Edit:
Please don't tell me Kyle Petty has a job here :banghead:.

It is also great to see SAFER barriers around the entire track now!

The race will draw a much larger audience on Sunday night than it would Saturday night anyway.
Sorry but I gotta disagree. The draw would've been better on Saturday night because they could've fed off of the hype of the 4th and I think it would've been more competitive. On Sunday most people will inevitably ignore it in favor of those popular new Sunday night shows. In fact, I'll miss a chunk of the race because of Battlebots on ABC. Either way, it was a dumb mistake by NBC. And not a good sign of things to come.

They did lose close to a million viewers in 2009 when the race was on the 4th compared to 2008. In 2010, when the race was on the 5th it was back in the 6 million range.

I think it's a smart move by NBC.

The Tv ratings tell a different story though. Combine that then with putting it on a channel that many people don't have because the requirement of having a satellite or cable package and that would've proven disasterous. In its current format, with the race not on the holiday AND on a standard channel that doesn't require cable or satellite and is thus more accessible, suddenly the TV ratings will shoot up.
