The impact sounds. :scared:

I said
The scariest one I watched live was Daytona 24h '14...
After watching that video, I was wrong. This is wow. I watched it live. There was so much going on at once. But hearing the crowds reaction to Keslowski hitting Dillon is just :(.

I wasn't that worried about the crowd in this one, but I was much more worried for the crowd when Larson wrecked into the fence.
Larson's wreck was a hard thing to watch, looked worse than this.

But I wasn't as worried for the driver then than I was tonight. Was also worried about Hamlin after we got no updates for a few minutes past his car being on fire.

I compared it to Le Mans '11 after the dunlop chicane with McNish. There wasn't much debris here compared to that. And the people were further away.

The fire on 11 is the main thing that I saw too. Then they showed that close up of Dillions car. And it was like "Wow what happened to that car." But the response from him and the crew was so fast that it wasn't very worrying.

When I saw the aftermath of the crash (both Dillon's car and the catchfence), I might have yelled, "Holy 🤬!" about 6 times. I thought Dillon was injured or worse. The fans too. To hear only minor injuries in the stands was unbelievable.

Just the speed and the way the 3 car was bumped into the air and cleared all the other cars (as opposed to the 42 just being turned into the fence) is what really just shocked me. I didn't even think that was possible.

Hats off to Joey Chitwood, NASCAR, and anyone else who was involved in mandating the rules of safety at Daytona. There's simply nothing that can be done for things like this. I'm very very pleased to see that everyone is okay. I've followed NASCAR for years, and I have never seen anything as wild as that. The only thing that comes to mind is Larson, Edwards, Allison, and Coulter. And to see Austin walk away is amazing. I can't applaud the safety enough. There is no reason that Austin should have survived- Bottom first, in a fence, dead stop, hit after the initial crash. And to see him walk away... it's incredible. What I feel NASCAR should do is install a second line of fencing about 5 feet behind the first one. The car stayed in the track, and a lot of the debris did too, but not enough. A second fence would keep the debris in, and in additon, as Jimmie Johnson said, if there's another car tumbling, the second fence would be there. The race itself was fantastic, and spectacular crashes like this make me replay the accident over and over, thinking what could be done to improve the safety further. To those of you saying it's all Harvicks fault- It is, but it's the final lap, a chance to win is literally 500 feet in front of you. What if Jr had a mechanical failure? All of a sudden Hamlin and Harvick win. Your adrenaline is pumping, you are doing all you can, you can't just let off the gas 100 feet from the line. You can't run 2.49 miles of a 2.5 mile track and say you gave it 100%. Regardless this is an amazing race, and a great test to the safety of the cars, track, and equipment. Great win Dale, and kudos to everyone who stayed up.

To be honest part of it was that this was, well, the 3 at Daytona and it always leaves a bad feeling for that car to have a bad wreck, nevermind what we got.

I'll be honest, I thought we had seen another driver in the 3 die at Daytona.
A day after the "biggest win of [his] career".
At a network's primier race.
When I was watching the race live and saw the first shot of the 3 car with people running toward the car, I looked away thinking that we had just lost another driver and had a bad flashback of Dale Sr.'s death (I'm certain that Dale Jr. did too telling by his slight trembling).

To quote Darrel Waltrip from the 2009 Aarons 499 in a serious manner: "Thank goodness for the much stronger, safer catch fences." And thank goodness for the safety of these cars and "Thank god for Safer barriers."

I'm sure NASCAR is going to have all of their engineers tomorrow watching this over and over to find an aerodynamic solution to avoid future incidents.

My goodness...this was unreal. WAY UNREAL IN ANY SENSE!!! Rain delay that pretty much left the USA-Japan Women's World Cup final unopposed, then getting this race through the early morning hours of Monday, and then this...

I just cannot believe how in the world this could happen. A very big wreck at the end of the race! :O

We're just glad all drivers are OK and only three people are caught with minor injuries, but surely enough there's going to be a lot of lessons learned - and possibly more changes down the road - after what it could be the finishing fireworks to the 4th of July holiday...

I think we can all agree. No matter what we think about anything. That NASCARs safety, like I said a bit ago. Is unrivaled in Motorsports. For drivers and Fans, almost started crying when I saw that Crash. Thought we lost another Driver in the #3, so glad JRs crew got there, made sure he was Ok..

Scary, scary crash. Still trembling a little.

Good night folks, I definitely feel like I was watching a 24 hour race instead of a rain delay  First NASCAR broadcast in 9 seasons for NBC and it started slow but holy crap, it ended just as wild and as scary as last week's Indycar race. It felt like NASCAR never left (though it helps that they kinda had abit of practice courtesy of ARCA and the K&N races).

Sorry for the Double Post, but does anyone else think that we'll see another catch fence behind the Main one, since there is so much room now, since Daytona rising has started.

It scares all of us. Even us who want to be racecar drivers rethink our thoughts to make sure that we really want to be driving or not.
My girlfriend and I were talking earlier, saying I want our son to race eventually. Start him in a go cart...I can't imagine...Everything is so safe. But there is still, those chances. Absolutely terrifying. I thought he wasn't going to walk away. I was expecting to be waiting up tonight to hear something from Halifax.. Good god. Many more things will change now, and that's alright with me. Safer for all our drivers, whether you like them or not. I don't think you ever wanna see someone get killed in motorsports..

Edit: JR said he'll be partying as soon as he wakes up, but hes going to bed. lol. Always light hearted even in scary situations.
Edit 2: Announcements about fans I assume, 13 on property. 8 denied attention. 4 treated on property. 1 taken to halifax and stable.

I think they have a 2nd fence to stop smaller debris... but I also think that that car completely demolished it.
