Whoo crap, what a race. The same truck that won last year wins again and ever better for me personally, its great to see the Toyota Certified colors in Victory lane again :D

The only racing remaining this week for the top three series is XFINITY and Cup at Indianapolis.

Discussed briefly today on "NASCAR America," there was a discussion of if the XFINITY and/or Cup series could add a dirt track race. Kyle Petty noted that while it would be fun, the stars of tomorrow come from the dirt ranks, so this is not as good an idea in his estimation. You know something? Part of me actually AGREES with Kyle Petty- to an extent. It would be great for diversity and to offer a unique challenge much like when NASCAR goes road racing. However, seeing these pro-level drivers on dirt tracks is not as bad as, say... Cup racers in Trucks and XFINITY. We all know that the Trucks and the XFINITY Series are made better when Cup drivers beat everybody, right (note my sarcasm)? I think even ARCA does some dirt racing. You mean to tell me that ARCA hurts the low-level series and drivers with THEIR racing?

My idea- if you think of dirt racing with the XFINITY Series and Cup is hurting the grassroots drivers, then don't engage in trying to get a dirt oval event for NASCAR's other top Touring Series. I say maybe have a one-off exhibition race on dirt. Make it like the Dirt Late Model Dream at Eldora with all the cars and stars of these other NASCAR top three Touring Series. Maybe schedule this thing on some rare off-weekend or something. Eldora would likely be the key venue, but don't overlook other places like Knoxville or Dodge City or someplace. I'm sorry that I am not as educated on short ovals and dirt ovals as I should be in regards to this topic.


What do you all think about the XFINITY Series and/or Cup doing dirt ovals?
 
Granted, it would be cool to see the other series run a dirt track, I honestly can't see it happening.

Main reason being, we all look forward to this one truck race all year. Throw the other two series is and after a few years, it'll become "just another race". The Mudsummer Classic is an exciting and unique race, because it's it's unique. It's ment to be a special event; adding the other series ito would kind of overdo it for me. Sure, I'd love to see it, but I can't see it happening.

Not to mention, somebody would complain that the race is favored to guys with dirt expeirience, like Larson and Stewart, where as guys like Biffle (LOL) and Johnson might struggle. (I don't know who exactly has dirt experience. Just picked names that sounded right.) You know with the level of competition that's in the Cup series, some team would complain that this guy has an unfair advantage or they can't keep up.

Besides, we have thousands of local dirt tracks around the country. The racing didn't look all that much different than what those run. Heck, you'd probably spend less money seeing a spring car race at Eldora on a random weekend, than going to the once a year truck race there.

Just my personal opinion, though.

When NASCAR races on circuits/road courses (especially Watkins Glen where both Xfinity and Cup race) they are still given special treatment. Why would it be different for a dirt race?

A dirt race in the cup series would be perhaps the best decesion NASCAR could make as it would make people curious and want to watch and spectate the race. When something is out of the ordinary, it attracts attention. One dirt venue out of the 16-18 on the NASCAR circus would not be "just another race".

I would split the field into two groups for the first round and then have the top 10-11 from each group complete in a final race.
 
Holy crap, did I just see the Cup teams use the Former F1 garages instead of the infield in Gasoline Alley?
 
I believe so. There's only 33 garages in Gasoline Alley, so anyone else would be in the F1 garages.

Edit: They're not using the brakes with this new aero setup. That's a ton of drag on the cars to be able to pull that off.
