NASCAR released the 2016 schedule today, it's pretty much the same. The unfortunate part is that they've apparently reached a 5 year deal with all the tracks so the likelihood of seeing another road course seems about as good as JWT winning the Cup title.:grumpy:

Bruton Smith will NOT let other tracks take up his ISC track spots. Not any time in the foreseeable future.

Burton Smith owns SMI, ISC is owned by NASCAR (and isn't doing well at the moment). That fact aside, the only SMI track that I wouldn't mind losing is Kentucky.

I would agree if it weren't for the good racing we actually got when NASCAR made the rare decision to give the drivers a car they actually HAD to drive.

Just watched a replay of the race. Man that was dick move by Harvick. I'm one of those people who is all for gritty, elbows up racing...but not when you have a bum car. I have no problem with Hamilton's move at COTA, and I don't really have a problem with Logano last week. Those were just aggressive racing moves. Not this though. Harvick basically pulled the kind of move that scrubs in pCARS make when they get a course cut penalty. That kind of move has no place on a race track.

I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for oval racing, especially at high speeds, but I have little to no respect for how NASCAR is run. For that reason, part of me wants to see it burn so it can be rebuilt, sort of like how I feel about F1. With that in mind, I hope Harvick's actions today set precedent, and we start seeing more guys purposely take each other out. It's funny to watch in the same way that WWE is fun to laugh at. I don't have anything particular against Logano, and I'm not a Kensith fanboy, but I would love love love to see Matt purposely take Joey out, preferably when it hurts his championship hopes the most. I'd love to see the 6 or the 11 return the favor to the 4. If I were Hamlin, I would spend the rest of the season wrecking the 4 every chance I got

And watch NASCAR eat it up

All of the tracks currently on the schedule deserve at least one race, very few deserve two (Daytona, Bristol, Richmond & Martinsville are the only ones that do).
There is no reason to be running second races at venues except for the ones you listed.

To replace them I would add:
-Rockingham
-Eldora
-North Wilkesboro (renovate everything first of course)
-Milwaukee Mile
-Road America
-Road Atlanta
-Mid-Ohio
-Lime Rock
-Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico.

With these additions you are bringing back old classics with some highly requested circuits.

I didn't include COTA because it's locked out for both NASCAR and Indycar with the idiot running TMS. For a replacement I thought the Mexico track would work well, it has two super long straights that would be great for passing.

COTA wouldn't be good with stock cars in my opinion. I could be wrong but it seems too technical for them to be entertaining

The Aussie V8's ran there on the mini circuit, it was great racing, with the long straights the drafting and passing would be fantastic. Plus, it would challenge the drivers. But a race there will never happen because of the reason I gave in my previous post.

Aussie V8's are still almost 100 KG lighter and are designed to do road courses. NASCAR cars are heavier, more powerful and made less for left and right turns. It would be worse than Infineon, which isn't bad but isn't nearly as good as Watkins Glen

But why would it be bad? The low downforce package on ovals is trying to make it harder for the drivers and has resulted in very entertaining racing. A difficult track in cars that are not designed for it thus harder for the drivers would produce great racing imo. Heck, any road course race is easily one of the best on the calendar for that very reason.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sprint Cup at Lime Rock. That might be a good road course, and NASCAR already has proof that stock cars can have a good race at that track.

Added to the list 👍.

It's because they wouldn't be able to hold any speed. Watkins Glen is considered to produce better racing than Infineon by most people because the drivers can hold a higher average speed through the corners. If the fastest the car can physically go through the corner is 45, it's going to produce less variation and as a result less passing than if you could theoretically hold a speed of 70.

Lime Rock is good for the Trucks and Xfinity, but it's too small of an infrastructure for Sprint Cup. You have to understand that the Cup Series is comparable to a huge football game, the turn out is tremendous!

True, but then driver error would still lead to lots of passing (cars running wide, under braking, over braking, etc.) and the straights would allow for drafting with the hard turns at the end allowing for another overtaking zone. Also, it's a very wide circuit.

@BayneHamlin1121
They don't have to add grandstands, just have massive grass seating areas and you can pack tens of thousands in there (also, nascar's attendance is declining at most circuits so it shouldn't be an issue).

I wonder how much money it is costing Anheuser Busch to keep their piece of trash driver in the chase. And people wonder why they compare NASCAR to WWE

Not happening, given how the local population is a bunch of good-for-nothing NIMBYS who are seemingly actively trying to get it shut down

Perfectly normal thing to do apparently.

Anywhere else and it'd be a crime.
Welcome to NASCAR, where even logic has seemingly left the building.
It's going to take someone getting seriously injured, or worse, for NASCAR to come to their senses.
At this point, it'll be a case of either deaths, garage revolts, fans boycotting/leaving en masse in higher numbers (which I propose we do now btw), or some combination of all 3. Then, they can finally change for the better.
My buddy who works safety and rescue up at Road America says that they are updating the track facilities and are trying to get a Cup race.
That's great news!
