If I'm honest I like the Pepsi livery you posted before a lot better. Still pretty nice though.

That's...interesting. I found Vince Welch just awkward and just bad. He was at his worst when he was the play by play announcer (mostly because of his love for Justin Allgaier). For me, he's a huge part of why I despised the ESPN coverage of NASCAR. Alex for some reason just annoyed me, he was ok as a pit road reporter but then they moved him to the booth and it just irritated me ever since.

NASCAR heavily is considering using the May 16 Sprint All Star race as a trial run of the rules package for the 2016 season and has begun informing Sprint Cup teams of the possibility, multiple sources have told MotorSportsTalk. During a state of the sport address to open Monday's Media Tour, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer Steve O'Donnell noted the All-Star Race was the goal for unveiling the rules for next season. The 2015 rules were delivered in September, which O'Donnell said was the earliest release yet. "We anticipate beating that marker in 2016, and we'll look to bring the rules package to the teams as early as we can with a target date of around the All-Star Race for this year," O'Donnell said.
An official with direct knowledge of the All-Star Race proposal said Charlotte Motor Speedway and Sprint were supportive of using the 2016 rules because it also would prevent teams from getting a jump on preparing for the Coca-Cola 600 and increasing the likelihood of a lackluster race. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity because the plan wasn't finalized.
The Sprint All-Star Race could use a jolt of relevance. In nine editions since the repaving of Charlotte in 2006, there has been one lead during the final five laps of an event billed as promoting a no-holds-barred style. In the past three Sprint All-Star Races, the winner has led the final 10 laps. But a potential drawback for NASCAR could be whether the sneak preview of the 2016 rules delivers a better version of the racing than with the current rules that will be featured over four hours the following week at Charlotte in the season's longest race. There's no timetable for the decision on using next year's rules in the All-Star Race, but NASCAR tested some ideas for next year during a session last month at Charlotte. More testing is expected to occur at Atlanta Motor Speedway next month and at Charlotte in March. This year's rules will feature a significant decline in downforce and about a reduction of about 125 horsepower. Another cut in downforce is expected in 2016, which will make cars' handling more difficult.(NBC Sports)(1-27-2015)

That looks awful in my opinion, but I have this OCD hate for stripes that don't continue over the entire body of the car. The 3M logo on the hood looks like an afterthought as well. It's like midway through the design process they found out Gordon was retiring and were like, "Oh well, no need to continue this!"
 
Just reading on Jayski the Wood Brothers are adding races to the schedule. OK, but in the same article it says that the "partnership" or whatever it's called, or it actually is, how I understand it is that Penske is building and skinning the car, and sharing data. I have to assume a Roush-Yates engine is going in the front, and the Penske Xfinity #22 pit crew will pit the 21 in Sprint Cup.

All this results in one question from me.....What do the Wood's do? Marketing? Accounting? I'm at a loss here.

OK, but in the same article it says that the "partnership" or whatever it's called, or it actually is, how I understand it is that Penske is building and skinning the car, and sharing data. I have to assume a Roush-Yates engine is going in the front, and the Penske Xfinity #22 pit crew will pit the 21 in Sprint Cup.

All this results in one question from me.....What do the Wood's do? Marketing? Accounting? I'm at a loss here.

Well I'm betting its not gonna be a Roush yates engine, its gonna be Penske as I'm sure they still have an engine department themselves. As for crew, I don't think this partnership will go to that extreme otherwise it leaves the original 21 crew without jobs.

They cut their engine department when they moved to Ford.

As Justin just said, Penske switched to Yates engines when they switched to Ford, unless Roger decided to build them again but I've heard nothing of the sort.

Those six races will be Darlington, Bristol, Chicagoland, the fall Charlotte race, Kentucky and New Hampshire. Penske sponsors PPG, Snap-On, and SKF will sponsor the car in those races. Wood says that the team's partnership with Team Penske is similar to what it was with Roush Fenway Racing - Penske does the body and chassis work and shares engineering data. Wood says that the #22 NXS pit crew will pit the #21 on race days.

Well hell, I thought they still had one. They sure did a better job with it then Roush did.

I'm at loss myself on that 21 crew. So what about the independent races? The 22 races all season regardless who drives it so how is that gonna work when for example, the 21 team is at Sonoma while the 22 team is at Road America?
 
Penske does take the R-Y engine and give it a tuning to their preferences.

The Wood Brothers don't run the road courses so they don't have to worry about being at Sonoma. If they run a race where the Xfinity Series is somewhere else, the Trucks will probably be with them and they'll probably use the BKR crew.

I don't think they are doing any of those races.

Here are the tracks they will be running (based on their previous schedules and the recently announced races):
Daytona X2
Las Vegas
Texas X2
Talladega X2
Charlotte X2
Michigan X2
Indianapolis
Homestead
Darlington
Bristol
Chicagoland
Kentucky
New Hampshire

The only one that may be have a conflict is the New Hampshire race if they are doing the second one (Xfinity is in Kentucky that weekend), but I'd imagine they will run the first (both series are there).
 
So, if... IF... Ryan Blaney wins the Daytona 500, he'll be eligible for the chase and Penske will put him into a 3rd car of his for the entire season.

Where that would leave the 21 team... well, no one knows.

He wouldn't be eligible for the chase as he is running for Xfinity points.

Edit: Apparently he hasn't declared what series he will collect points in, but he has to do so before the season so it would be a big gamble to go for Cup points.
