I read it or heard it somewhere, but the reasoning provided was that some of the cars were involved in very hard collisions, and NASCAR didn't want to make the safety crews wait another minute for the race to end. NASCAR felt that the safety crews needed to be released immediately on to the track to check on the drivers involved in the crash on the back stretch. This was probably an overreaction to the Kyle Busch accident from the day before (and possibly even from the Earnhardt crash 14 years ago), but it is hard to fault NASCAR for erring on the side of a driver's well-being in the seconds following a hard crash.

Good call, though. Many people have double standards when it comes to the saftey issues. I would've been more concerned with the situation if they let it run under green.

Sounds like Erik Jones will run the 18 from here on out. If they pull him from his Xfinity starts he won't have a conflict until June with his full-time Truck commitments

Thank God it's not Suarez

Thank God it's not Suarez

Why did you think Suarez was going to be chosen? He hardly has any experience so it would been a daft choice.

I wouldn't go that far. Give him a little time. If he's still chasing jackmen down pit road halfway into the season then he could be gone quickly
Just curious, what is his prior racing experience?

He raced in the NASCAR Toyota Series where he was rookie of the year in 2010. He's also raced in the K&N East Series. Anything prior to 2010 I don't know.

Plus a few races in ARCA and Trucks so far.

It appears with Suarez that he was shoved up the ladder too quickly not knowing too much other than what @GTPorsche knows. I don't know if that has to do with the "Drive for Diversity" program that's basically trying to get anyone who isn't a Caucasian male into the top tiers of NASCAR or what. I personally think that the most talented drivers should get the drives regardless of race or sex, but it usually goes to who can get sponsorship regardless.

Here's his career up to this point:

2007: Karting Championship (wins it)
2008-2009: Competes in the Mini-Stocks (Becomes the Youngest winner in the series)
2010-2011: Competes in the Nascar Toyota Series for Telcel Racing While simutaniously having a partial season in the K&N Series East
2012: He has a partial season in both Toyota Series and the K&N East series
2013-2014: He competes full time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and makes an appearance In the Kentucky ARCA race and a Nationwide race.

So, that's his career up to this point.

Unless Suarez is related to an upper level executive at Arris, they really should have put their money behind Bubba Wallace.

Wallace drives for Roush-Fenway now. I doubt JGR will be able to obtain him for the next how-many races.

Crafton and maybe Jones will likely drive the #18 for the rest of the time Kyle Busch is out. I would love to see Bobby Labonte return to the #18, but that's only to dream.

Looks like he's funded as is. Not to mention the drive for diversity program.

I'm all for diversity as long as the guys can actually drive and not take seats from otherwise worthy drivers. That's essentially a double standard at that point.

The problem is there aren't many drivers who aren't running at the moment who have gotten many chances to prove themselves.

Everybody on Twitter, from Interstate Batteries to Dale Jr., would kill for Bobby to come back for one more race.
ARRIS wanted a Hispanic driver. They also lucked out and got one of the most marketable in the sport in Edwards in addition to this.

You look at a team name and automatically assume he's funded? That's the team, not his sponsor. Plenty of Mexican drivers have driven for Telcel racing without being personally sponsored by them.

The internet is being dumb right now but god damn if this isn't a great looking car.

The Orange Cone is saying that a driver with two Cup wins will be in the 18 this weekend. We'll see how that turns out.

Among active drivers, David Reutimann is the only one with two wins and no ride currently. I would rather risk Jones, but they may want to let him develop a little more.
