I think they have a 2nd fence to stop smaller debris... but I also think that that car completely demolished it.

I believe that its sort of incorporated in the fence. It's weird. If you watch it again, you can see while they are zoomed in on the fence the Silver cables held strong.

Take out lower seating.
Add a second fence.
Remove some more grass (Hornish).

They have already raise it from where it was. My dad was complaining because the seats, the cars would look like they were driving straight at you. But, they pushed them back, and raised them. Now a secondary fence, and less grass. Definitely, Hornish is lucky he didn't find a wall with out a safer barrier. Did find a culvert though, that's a sore back.

How fast did the car stop? Its quite easy to calculate, we already know the mass of the car is about 1550kg... And we already know the velocity was originally about 197 MPH.

Another thing to applaud is the fuel cell. Look at Bodine and look at Dillon. The car did not burst into flames despite hitting the fence with the gas tank facing the fence.

Well, he was going about 195 probably, getting air and rolling, maybe to down to 185, and stopping in about .8 seconds before bouncing on to the track. Roughly? Maybe, I've never been good with math, English is my strong suit.

Hans was created for Sports Car racing, originally for one of the European GT series in the late 90s wasn't it? Sucks that they didn't incorporate it sooner.

My mistake, Improved the safety of the HANS, and made it mandatory. I believe if I remember correctly, drivers optionally wore it, Sr. Didn't like it because it restricted movement. Am I wrong?

That's another thing, Tony was very lucky, had Austin not got so much air, he would have been right through Tony's windshield. We were close to losing two drivers today. Neither of whom I wish to ever see die in my lifetime.

Well it didn't some to a complete stop... It was still going about 35... So...

Converting to Meters per second:
185 -35 = 150 MPH...
150MPH /3600 = 0.0416 Miles per second.
0.0416 * 1600 = 66.56 Meters per second.


Gravity.
Gravity = 9.8 M/s^2
9.8 * (0.64) = 6.27

Final
66.56/6.27 = An average of 10.6 G forces

10.6 * 1550(Kg) * 2.2(Kg to Lb) = An average pressure of about 36146 pounds.

Also, Watching it again..still makes my stomach drop, and takes my breath away...I guess it was a state of shock, cause I never really heard the concern in Rick Allens voice, and the mumbles of the others. I think they all thought what we have been saying, and the relief in his voice when they give him a thumbs up. This crash will remain in my head. For a very long time, hope to never see another like it.


Anyway, I was getting tired towards the end of the race. Been wide awake for the past hour or so. Anyone else?

Again, so glad we didn't lose anyone today. So thankful. I think Sr, was riding with Dale a lot tonight. I think he got into Austins car coming out of four. I don't know what it was about today, the delay. But I just had an uneasy feeling that there would be a bad crash. Glad nothing too serious came out of it.

Thats true, but the concern for the driver outweighed any other immediate threat to them. It was amazing to see Jr's and Casey's crew go selflessly running to help him. It shows this sport no matter how different everyone is, who you root for.. We're all family and look out for each other.
