Very, very off topic, but.

I didn't think that the XJ would be that popular in the poll.

On topic.

What engine might this new 7-Series have?

@Grandea GTR

At launch

740i : 326hp Inline 6
750i : 450hp V8
730d : 264hp Inline 6

760i and 740e to follow..

.. and this is a better photo.

Huh, always thought they only used V8s and V12s. Makes me wonder how it'll perform compared to the competition.

The 7 series has always had I6's and V8's, and since the late 80's V12's for the top model.

S-Class uses a V6 on lower models, so I don't think the 7 will be lacking.

I love how the driver's seat is so cramped to make room for the passengers. Total limo car.

Also as far as engines go, there is a rumor going around about a possible "M7" model. I think it would make sense for it to feature a twin turbo V8. It makes perfect sense as the S63/S65, XJR, S8 etc. do bring in quite a lot of sales.

Enjoy. Photos were taken from Car and Driver.

From Car and Driver: "Arriving in 2016, the 740e xDrive plug-in will combine a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, a lithium-ion battery located under the rear seat, an electric motor, and an eight-speed automatic. The maximum range on electricity alone is said to be 23 miles, with zero-emissions driving possible at speeds up to 75 mph. The all-wheel-drive 740e will be sold in all 50 states."

Tech
From Car and Driver: "Lest rear-seat passengers feel left out, they can have a touch screen of their own in the form of a built-in, removable Touch Command Tablet in the center armrest. With it, one can adjust the climate controls, the seats, and the infotainment system (to play on the dual screens in the back of the front headrests); alternately, it can be used to surf the web via the Wi-Fi hotspot. Finally, because one’s self worth is based on the number of touch screens in one’s life, there is an optional touch screen even on the key fob. It can tell you whether the car is locked, the windows are open, and the fuel level and range."

I'm betting there won't be an M7.

BMW will want to keep, the 760i as their flagship, and I don't see them slotting a fully fledged M model in the 7 series range below another model - it's just too contradictory.

For these reasons I see more of an argument for an 'M performance' model... But then where does that leave the Alpina B7 - a car that is made on BMWs own production line? It's just too much of a niche market for all these models to co-exist.

There are rumours of the Vision Future Luxury concept becoming a 9 series, if this were to happen I can see BMW loosening their own restrictions on the 7er, and maybe doing an M7... Or Maybe if Alpina decidied to pull the B7 from the USA, there could be an M770i as was once rumoured.

And also, let's not ignore future technology... The BMW ePower drive train that pushes out 670hp in the 5GT ePower concept... Where does this fit in? BMW doesn't need to make an M to have a brutally performing 7er...

I could be entirely wrong on all this of course.

Also, I much prefer the F01 to the new car... It does look better in the proper pics, but it's just not a looker.

But, if you think about it, Mercedes has the S63 and S65 AMGs, yet the Mercedes-Maybach S600 is the flagship. If BMW did come up with an M7, they could make a higher level 7, just above the 760i. But the issue with that is that it would take away from the Ghost. Yeah you're probably right. I definitely agree that it looks worse than the F01. E38 FTW!!!!!

Rather than an M7, all BMW needs is a new 8-series coupe based on the 7, followed by an 8-series Gran Coupe, so they can have another four-door car the size of the 7 but sportier-looking. Throw in an 8-series convertible plus Touring and GT versions of the 7-series, and the hogpile of niches will be just about complete.

I can't tell if that is serious or not, but with the S Coupé and soon the S Cabriolet, Mercedes will have all of that other than the S Sedan Coupé. It would actually make a lot of sense for BMW

If BMW were to make an M-badged 7, it would more likely be along the lines of an S8-rivaling M750i rather than a full-fat M7.

Keep in mind, this car is made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic.

An I6 manual(never happen) would be a nice nod(even though BMW are forward thinking).

Are these new headlights called "Captain Hook's"? Or, maybe, "E.Nigma" LEDs? 👍

So it uses the M135i's I6 engine?

If this is using Carbon Fiber reinforced Plastic what is the weight?

Im thinking it should be similar to the current 5 Series.
