Hamilton wouldn't have basically been gifted the win.
No, it's all the cars out of sequence; it feels artificial. It's great when someone qualifies beyond the capabilities of the car - like Button in Austria - but this just feels like a lucky dip.

Maybe this isn't quite over. Does Ham have the pace to maintain a gap or is Rosberg just purely quicker?

Think it's done. They're just trading fast laps now.

Six and a half seconds in nine laps, doesn't seem like that will change much given the tires are almost exactly the same age.

And Nico's been fighting for a dozen laps, so Hamilton will have fresher tires.

Can't help but wonder what the race would have been like if it had started properly. Sure, there's action on the track, but it feels pretty hollow, like a dull reflection of what it could have been.
I think this is just about the best it could've turned out - the Mercs were head and shoulders above everyone else in both the wet and dry, unless both cars fluffed their starts completely or piled into each other it would've stayed like this, just with the gaps up front being wider.

Probably gave him a lesser penalty because it didn't result in a collision.

Seemed like he lost control, but still a fair penalty.

Yep

Still think Nico won't catch Lewis, controlling the race there.

Possibly, but the Mercedes seems to be able to get the most out of the tyres when the drivers are lapping consistently, if not going faster from lap to lap. So even if he's fighting, he should be able to minimise the wear if he's lapping consistently.

It's been an average race, half a dozen good battles which is better than some races. Definitely should have started sooner though.

Rosberg has gearbox issues. No seventh.

Damn. That was a great drive, too.

He might still keep a podium, but now he's in danger of losing second to Verstappen if Max can get a good tow on the straights.

EDIT: it's a safety issue if the box is in danger of blowing up, right?

With the way the mercs have started this year though.

Yeah I can't see how that is allowed, a gearbox issue is not a safety measure.
If it's regarding an imminent failure they're allowed to tell the driver what course of action to take.

Worse news for Nico... a change of gearbox will give him another grid penalty next race, methinks.

He might just have enough left in the tank to keep ahead of Max, though.

And even worse news... they're going to investigate him for the radio messages about the gearbox.

When it rains...

Apparently Mercedes are allowed to give him instructions if there is a risk of imminent failure; it looks like he's lost seventh gear entirely.

Seems weird that Mercedes can warn him of a gearbox failure, but Force India can't warn Pérez of a brake failure.
