NASCAR would be all the poorer in my eyes if the sanctioning body decided road courses were "Too Dangerous" while still running at Daytona & Talledega.
Yeah for anybody to think road courses are more dangerous than those 2.5+ ovals (which they insist on pack racing with massive wrecks, tandem not any better) they have to be extremely stupid.

Edit: Saw Brad's press conference thing...and he is extremely stupid. :yuck:

This series sponsor thing is reminding me quite a bit of the McLaren title sponsor deal a couple years ago.

Phelps says search for Sprint's replacement still on track:
As NASCAR chief marketing officer Steve Phelps explained the status of the search for a new sponsor to replace Sprint, the Pocono Raceway weather went from cloudy, to drizzle to sun breaking through the clouds all in 15 minutes. Was it a sign of the roller-coaster ride of the search for a Cup Series sponsor? "It's all good," Phelps said. There is no sense of panic within Phelps as the sponsorship search continues and in some ways can be as unpredictable as the Pocono weather. When Nextel was announced to replace Winston in 2003, the deal came together quickly and was announced in June. Two years ago, the Xfinity deal to replace Nationwide as the sponsor of NASCAR's top national developmental series was announced in September. The announcement of a new Cup sponsor likely will come later. Phelps told ESPN.com on Friday morning that an October announcement is the most likely scenario. He stressed not to confuse NASCAR not having a concrete feel of an announcement date with the search not going as planned. He said the timeline is tracking as NASCAR expected when Sprint announced in December 2014 that it would depart after the 2016 season. "We've got roughly 12 companies we're still in discussions with," Phelps said. "They're in various stages. I would say there's an opportunity that I believe we could get an offer from -- five or six. The process is going very well. The brands are a mixture of those that are not in the sport right now and some that are in the sport. It's a good list and we're trying to determine what is the best for the sport overall."
NASCAR doesn't expect a 10-year deal this time around. "It probably will be a shorter deal," Phelps said. "It is something that bodes from our standpoint and as well a brand standpoint. ... Although we did a 10-year deal with Comcast (for the Xfinity Series); that's a bit of an anomaly in this world today. It will depend on the brand and it will depend on what we believe will be right for the sport."
Even when NASCAR signs a deal, the steps prior to the announcement will depend on several factors. NASCAR won't want to tread on the media blitz of the end of the regular season or start of the Chase, possibly feeding speculation of the status of negotiations in order to make sure it does the announcement at the time that works best for NASCAR and its sponsor.(ESPN.com)(7-30-2016)

In case you didn't follow that, they kept saying their search for a new sponsor was on track and close to being finalized, than switched to a "title sponsors" aren't needed anymore stance once it became apparent there wasn't any deal in place.

So is no one watching this race? It's actually pretty good

Well if it entices anyone any faster, Its not a cup driver winning (because OMG, THE SPORT IS RUINED WHEN THAT HAPPENS)

How do you get good sponsors for your Xfinity effort? Put a Cup Driver in the driver's seat. No Cup Drivers = No Xfinity Series. People are only complaining now because Kyle Busch. If it were Harvick or anyone else people would look the other way. Just a couple weeks ago in this thread a poster (I forget his user name) was complaining about Cup guys in Xfinity but somehow his favorite driver won the Xfinity race and happened to be a full time Cup guy and he didn't really care after that. There is a whole lot of that sort of thing going on. Just be honest, people hate Kyle and that's why most care so much.

Um Greg, Interpolate is already a word, it's a math calculation. It's basically finding a point on a line when you know 2 other points.

The only reason people were not complaining when Jr. won was because it was Jr. Any other driver won and people would be bitching. But as already stated several times in this thread by multiple including @Blood Eagle and myself, if you kick out the cup drivers, you can kiss Xfinity and the CWTS goodbye. Then people would be bitching because the series doesn't have any organizations to bring in new talent. NASCAR cannot win in either case because its either let cup racers in and watch them clown the field or kick them out and watch the series die off.

NASCAR has only itself to blame for that. The series is supposed to be a feeder division and they chose to make two race and 3 race weekends at the same tracks.

There's something about rain delay interviews with the kids that are always funny

Rick Allen: "That's a lot of numbers"

Jeff Burton: "Are his parents punishing him?"

On the positive, it gives me time more time to watch the Tigers/Astros game and maybe even the NHRA race later today. On the negative, I'll miss the race because I'll be gone all day tomorrow. Oh well- not the first race I missed and certainly not the last either.

*Facepalm*

I guess people don't want to remember that Cup teams in Xfinity are how guys like Dale Earnhardt Jr Got to Cup. But nope, "OMG, STOHP WINNIN, KYLE. UR RUININ DA SERIES". Not the guys before that took the whole championship, just Kyle and his wins

What people forget is just how much Kyle won with his own team, even if it had ties to JGR.
