Sorry to change the subject. Just watched the Sonoma race, first race I've caught all season and what a finish!!!! Great for Stewart to take it home. I thought Allmendinger had it all race but that penalty ruined him. Great race, may have to watch more now.

On the subject of the Dillon wreck, I remember seeing the catch fence move back and I saw Hamlin's car in a fireball so I thought it was Hamlin that tagged the fence. But then they showed the 3 and I knew right away it was him. As soon as I saw that car I thought he was dead, especially knowing about Dale. I still to this day cannot believe that he got out of it with, if I remember correctly, just a couple bruises. That wreck kept me up at night too, not even kidding. I literally got zero sleep.

And I can't even begin to imagine what was going through Dale Jr's mind, especially considering the personal value and attachment to the 3 and who drove it back then.

Dead on what basis? The greenhouse area was intact still.

The impact was still pretty bloody massive. Although the the catchfence would've absorbed quite a large amount of energy, for the car to be going at such speeds, and to pretty much come to a dead halt so suddenly is incredible.

Alright, less sarcasm and respect, got it... buddy.
Thanks, buddy :). Back to the topic, I understand that the cockpit of the car itself wasn't that heavily damaged, but with the whole engine being torn out of it, and the abrupt halt, it generally looked scary. Yea the driver's compartment was largely undamaged, but it isn't just crushing and physical contact with the driver them self that can seriously hurt or kill a driver.

I would be shocked if it's not this.

just a PS from reddit

Knowing GM that's exactly why they'd do that...because all they have to do is change the decals.

I fail to see where it would be a simple Sticker change. Its not the COT.

Except he didn't come to an immediate stop, so try again. There's been other drivers that hit much harder and walked away.

I mean looks can be decieving. We've all seen the fatal Dale Earnhardt wreck which compared to Michael Waltrip's 1990 Bristol wreck looked very tame. Yet Waltrip walked away and Dale is no longer with us.

Point is that Dillon wreck was beutal and destructive and Dillon was lucky to walk away.

I remember having horrible feelings after witnessing that wreck, as well. Forget what time the race ended, but it was very early morning, and the few hours after that were tense, shock filled, sleepless hours. Still amazes me that Austin, and in some ways even more impressive, the fans in the grandstands all walked away with minor injuries at most. A true testament to how safe these cars and tracks have become.

But as we've seen in the past, there's always room for improvments.

Yes, but one had a seatbelt break and the others didn't.

The view at 5:46 is one that really shows how incredible this accident was. To see the speeds of the pack, then the cloud of smoke and sparks, and then the car spinning on the ground in the space of about 1-2 seconds, it unbelievable.

Holy **** Rowdy just had a hard crash during practice when the right front tire popped :nervous: thankfully hes ok.

Edit: Here's the incident:

Actually he's mostly right, the SS and Impala do have similar front ends. There are some slight differences but alot of them can be remedied by using new decals and aero tweaks. The roofline and rear ends though are very different. I expect to see what amounts to a Fusion with an SS front end

EDIT: Sure NXS teams are using old Camaro, Charger, and even Mustang bodies, but I don't think you can do that in Sprint cup for cage and template reasons. I'm gona miss that grand old SS tearing it up on the circuit
