Why NASCAR decided to not only add an elimination format, but use that same format for all three series is downright mindboggling and reeks of total incompetence.

My heart breaks for William Byron. That young man raced his tail off and deserved to win the championship. He won six races this year, and should be hoisting the championship trophy. But he won't even be able to be in the "championship 4". What a crock of 🤬 !

Even in the first iterations of the Chase at the Sprint Cup level, you could have one or two bad finishes, and manage to recover.

I am really starting to lose patience with TBTP that run this sport. We DID not need Game 7 moments in NASCAR, yet they continues to push them on us and alienate the loyal fan base.

I don't care if the championships are decided before the season finale. At least the season has a chance to play out naturally. Next year, NASCAR had better make the right call and get rid of this asinine playoff format AND the caution clock ONCE AND FOR ALL.

Because I am seriously close to boycotting NASCAR next year.
While I agree with you, I think you'll need to start planning that boycott. Loyal fans are discounted because all the major sports bodies seem to believe they could actually 🤬 on their most loyal fans and they would ask for more. Everyone is trying to attract the people who only have a passing interest because there's money to be had, and now that even the NFL is suffering a bit kinda shows me even that Goliath may have peaked.

I believe that a lot of people were drawn in initially, and 2014 the drivers seemed to run with the do-or-die mentality, but since then it's gone back to the "enough to get by" mentality. and I've finally figured out that is a thought process you can't get rid of, so why have a system that teases the drivers and the fans. And that's all I see it as anymore, a corporate tease. But, until money just stops flowing altogether, it won't change. Ditch the chase, but the points table is pretty good.

I'd be fine with Walmart. Dollar General is leaving and Target may not be around in motorsports much longer. With Walmart, every other brand in the U.S. will be encouraged to sponsor cars because Walmart does business with everybody

The problem with Walmart is they cover such a broad area they could pretty much put a blanket ban on retail stores in general from sponsoring a Cup team if they wanted to be dicks about it.

Looking at current sponsors these are the cars that could have sponsors that in some way compete with Walmart.

#1 - Sherwin Williams, Bass Pro Shops
#3 - Bass Pro Shops
#5 - Great Clips (I doubt they would have issue with this, but I wouldn't be surprised either)
#11 - Sport Clips
#14 - Bass Pro Shops (No clue if they will sponsor this team at all in '17)
#19 - Sport Clips
#24 - NAPA
#27 - Menard's
#42 - Target (although they're probably leaving anyways)
#48 - Lowe's
#47 - Kroger
#78 - Bass Pro Shops

T-Mobile.

Pretty much.

Of course the 12 team was replaced with the 22 team which almost lost their sponsor as Sonoco was having a hissy fit.

Oddly, I think NASCAR not finding a new title sponsor would be a good thing as I don't think they can afford to block out sponsors anymore.
1. T-mobile? That's hilarious both by early 2000's pop culture standards, and frankly going by their ads, it's still funny.
2. How about NASCAR encourages some of its remaining partner companies to prop up some of the teams big and (preferably) small.

OK. The invocation was one of the better ones I've heard, but I'm about to get heat for this one, I've not heard an act sing the national anthem this season that was at all inspiring or even interesting. Whoever that was and the dude on guitar lost me at the opening line. Am I the only one who thinks that the bands are best at it? Even just at TMS, TCU did it well, but the Cavalry band that did it for the Indycar race (at least twice) was awesome.

Oh man that moment back in 2014 with Newman and Larson, as a Gordon fan i was absolutely infuriated at Newman when that happened.

Well considering it's not my national anthem I've never really cared for the singing of it. Anyone military, band, singer, or otherwise is pretty much always good because they just get on with it. I hate pop singers or whoever else that does it because they take twice as long to sing the darn thing. I don't even understand the need to sing it or play it. I'm fairly certain America and more specifically NASCAR are the only ones who do the anthem before racing. I don't know of any other category that does it, or prays before the race for that matter, I just don't get it. Oh, and Indycar with the added possibility of USCC.

All US-based sports organizations do it, it doesn't get televised all the time though. I think the NBA and NHL do play the Canadian anthem when they're there. For the US, they can use it to get the crowd excited before the event begins.

Honestly, I was shocked he did it at all.

It's a tradition to play the anthem prior to any sporting event in the U.S. It apparently started during WWI and for some reason it stuck.

They play the Canadian anthem in northern states as well. For instance during the NHRA race at Brainerd they played both.

Poor bubba :(

Edit: That interview was so unprofessional. The NBC reporters are really starting to get on my nerves.

How Bubba was taken out is the main reason why I don't care much for the Chase. In which other sport can a non-playoff participant can affect the results of a playoff contender? It's like if the Cleveland Browns could interfere in the Super Bowl.

No offense to Browns fans...

Doesn't look like Koch is gonna make it in, though I imagine that because he jumped into Bubba he's instantly a worse person than... I got nothin'.

Motorsport.com reporting that Monster Energy has become a finalist for Cup entitlement sponsorship
This will either be what NASCAR needs to have any remote hope of being relevant, or this will be an epic disaster.
BUBBA NO! :(
And right now, I might as well drop this race unless Suarez pulls a miracle. Oh, and screw this chase with a fence post

EDIT: No miracle, Busch is gonna win this one...SMH

It's happened. It's happened in every playoff sport. The Rangers were knocked out of playoff contention in the last week by Oakland a few years ago, the NY Jets were eliminated in their last game last season, Basketball's a mess usually, it happens all the time. Maybe not the Super Bowl, but teams have been screwed by the eliminated for eons.

Doesn't mean it has any place in motorsport though.

Thank god no Cup guys at Homestead next week for Trucks or Xfinity.

Edit: Oh no Sadler has 1 less lugnut....

I meant once the playoffs have started proper. Obviously, you can have eliminated teams affect those still in contention near the regular season's end.

Uh, oh. Officials all over Sadler's car.
