So they tossed Ryan, another coach change after two years to basically screw over the entire team before they can get settled, but kept Whaley and gave him even more control than he had.

So now we're going to have another 5 years of 8-8 at best, but the games won't even be enjoyable like they had been for the past two years.

I'll be amazed to see this team do better than 6-10 in the next two seasons.

I am glad to see EJ starting a game for the first time this season. Probably his last chance to show that he doesn't suck.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

All 32 teams, 16 games, one day. The action today entails playoff positioning and making that last effort to get into the postseason. Unless your team(s) is/are still in the hunt, this is the final day of the regular season.

Good luck to all of your favorite teams. If Tampa Bay gets into the NFL Playoffs considering what all needs to happen (about seven things need to happen), Hell will have frozen over.

Wait just a sec mister, I'm a buc fan
The tie part is something that just won't happen so we'll have to wait til next year, they came on strong at the end beating some really tough teams all in a row. We are contenders once again.

What a game :D

I'm also way happy that the eagles pound the cowgirls, I know it kills my chances but whatever. epic nfl finally 👍

It's always a good game when Dallas looses. I really hope in their first playoff game they just get blown out.

Buccaneers have been eliminated from postseason contention following Philadelphia's win over Dallas.

The Houston Texans failed today. Though we had nothing else to play for, we still lost 24-17 at the Tennessee Titans. So no AFC South sweep for Houston. Tom Savage was out of the game with a concussion (he did start). Brock Osweiler came out to help out the Texans at QB. It still wasn't enough as the Texans lost to finish the regular season 9-7.

As of this post, we're awaiting whether we will face Oakland or Kansas City. Miami was also possible, only if they beaten New England.

Congratulations to all other winners from today's games. And because misery loves company, those winners also include Philadelphia beating Texas' other NFL team- the Dallas Cowboys.

Naturally the Bengals won in an absolutely meaningless game with Green, Eifert (his backup Kroft), Hill (and Gio having already been out for the year), and Burfict not in the lineup. It's nice to win, but it's such a shame that Green never got the chance to hit 1,000 receiving yards on the season. All he needed was 36...and his injury happened a month and a half ago. I thought he would at least suit up for this game, if not last week's too. He would have been only the second player, Randy Moss being the other, to catch for 1,000 yards in his first 6 years in the league.

With the loss of the Redskins the Lions are in! Now they just need to finish off the Packers to claim the NFC North.

As are the Packers. Only a Redskins win would have prevented either team from making the postseason.

(Also, the Buccaneers are doubly eliminated because the Giants and Redskins did not tie).

Here are the seeds:

AFC:

1. New England
2. Kansas City

3. Pittsburgh hosts 6. Miami on Sunday 1 PM
4. Houston hosts 5. Oakland on Saturday 4 PM

NFC:
1. Dallas
2. Atlanta

3. Seattle hosts 6. Detroit/Green Bay on Saturday 8 PM.
4. Detroit/Green Bay hosts 5. New York on Sunday 4 PM.

(Times are based on how NFL broadcasts are usually handled. Houston is least desirable game and would get the Saturday afternoon game. Pittsburgh/Miami would have to be Sunday early. Both NFC games will be late and it would surprise me if the Giants did not have the Sunday late game).

Part of me says that the Lions will win, and the other part of me says that they'll go Lioning either choke it away or will not show up and get blown out. At least they're going to the playoffs regardless now, though.

Cheers to you on posting the NFL Playoffs update, Blitz24. Good for the Detroit Lions to make the postseason. Whether or not they can parlay their playoff arrival with the NFC North remains to be seen as of the time of this post.

So it seems my Texans will try to seek revenge against the Oakland Raiders. Let's hope the atrocious officials from the game in Mexico City don't officiate this game here in Houston.

Again- congratulations to all who made the playoffs, better luck next season to all who missed out on the playoffs.

Chargers get added to the list of teams looking for a new head coach because they just fired Mike McCoy.

NBC showed an aerial shot of the trashed Silverdome. Not sure if it's sad or aggravating to see places in that shape, though most of Detroit draws the same feelings.

Teams in need of Head Coaches: Most of California, Denver, Buffalo, Jacksonville...who else is gonna be searching? Chicago? Cleveland? Baltimore?

Teams who need to figure out WTF they're doing: city name here Chargers.

I'd add the 49ers to the figure out what they're doing part too.

The Silverdome is a prime example of what happens when a government doesn't know enough to leave well enough alone. They wouldn't let the Lions buy it from the City of Pontiac so the Lions up and moved. It's gone through a handful of owners over the past few years and it was supposed to be demolished last spring. It's sad to see the state it's in now though, I have lots of memories seeing the Lions play there along with monster truck rallies. The house I grew up in, you could see the roof too so when they deflated the roof it hit me right in the nostalgia.

At least from what I saw on TV it's not filled with something nasty looking liquid like it was the last time I saw a pic of it.

It's damned depressing. The Silverdome, the Astrodome, these were beacons of pride and distinction, and all they're doing sitting there, rotting, disrespected. The old factories in Detroit were much the same, and they're starting to reach the ancient greek/roman levels of dilapidation. Even the mega malls from the 80s are treated the same way. They all could have so much life, but instead the decisions are made that leave them abandoned and condemned. I hate it.

Back-on-Football: is this the same officiating crew that called the Arizona game where almost every play in one quarter had a penalty flag thrown?

This sums up all Lions games with officiating.

The number of penalties is one thing that throws my interest out of football games, and this year it's been almost every game. At least it's only coming in chunks tonight instead of a solid hour of flag-toss.

LATER: Lions need to get rolling and put the brakes on Green Bay. The Packers like the end of games more than Detroit does, at least from what I can tell.

LATER STILL: Nope. Lions haven't won a division since '93, maybe next season. Not that it matters much, wild card teams aren't push-overs anymore.
