The wait is over. Winter has passed and Formula 1 is back! 2016 is shaping up to be an exciting year with so many questions to be answered. Will it be another Mercedes walkover? Will Ferrari actually put up a fight? Will McLaren do any better? How will Haas get on? Will Force India challenge Williams? Will we miss Maldonado? Who knows. But these will start to get answered down under in Melbourne. Here is the 2016 Australian Grand Prix!

Exciting times, the first race is always fun. Personally think the Mercs will walk it but the mid pack battles should be fun.

Here's the tyre selections for each driver:

It's worth noting that Mercedes has let both their drivers choose a differing tyre strategy. In fact, Mercedes are one of three teams whose drivers have picked different tyres. The others being the Sauber pairing of Ericsson and Nasr, and newcomers Haas and their drivers Grosjean and Gutierrez.

Will we miss Maldonado?
While I won't miss 2015 Maldonado, I'm sad we never got to see the full potential of Maldonado circa 2012. If he was able to maintain those flashes of speed he often showed, it would have been great for F1. Remember all the controversy and commentary when he had those run-ins with Hamilton? He would have made a perfect villain, the guy everyone loves to hate. Instead, he just turned into a joke.

What a stupidity once again from L.H. Using phone on a bike (and posting it)
The casino story is also nice.....:ouch:

Anyway:
Hope Mercedes can be challenged by Ferrari, but I think not.
Wonder if McLaren can stay in front of Haas.
Hope Max Verstappen does better than last year here in Australia. Which shouldn't be difficult.

I didnt realize that's what the casino fuss was about. I don't think I've ever been to a casino where they allow you to use your phone at a table....thought everyone who went to casinos just sort of knew that :odd:

But "police investigation"?? For what amounts to a ticket? Talk about headline seaking. One of the cops probably has a brother who works at the casino

Anyways, I'm hoping Williams can pull a fast one on people and grab one or even two podiums this weekend. Also looking forward to a potential Redbull vs Toro Rosso battle.

Bear in mind that he is an international figure who is well-known as a racing car driver. By posting the picture, he advocated an incredibly dangerous and irresponsible behavior.

The police action was over the selfie video while riding the Harley, not the casino events. In any case, NZ police have decided that there's not enough evidence in the video - presumably because it doesn't show him using a mobile phone.

You're right - I can't see a mobile phone anywhere in that shot! :D

Epic sarcasm aside... the devil's in the detail. If filming oneself with a camera device that isn't a mobile phone isn't illegal then there isn't enough evidence there to charge him. The obvious presumption (mine included) is that it is a mobile phone. That doesn't make a case though.

I realise the investigation was for the selfie video. I should have been more clear. Glad it's being dropped though.

You sound like a cop :P. Let me guess, selfies are off limits, but eating breakfast and drinking a coffee while driving/riding is all good? At least that's how it is here  We have a similar law here in BC - cops are one of the most frequent violators, using either their phone, or their computer, or both, while driving. It's nothing more than a money grab.

Just about anybody can flash speed 20% of the time...it's that whole not crashing the other 80% that takes skill :sly:

He didn't help himself either throwing his team under the bus and somehow, solely blaming them for him not doing well (nevermind he never had a chance no matter what he drove).
