Wow. Castroneves just caught a huge brake.

He wasn't leading.

Sorry, didn't see that he fell back into 3rd. Castroneves though needs to get back on the lead lap by any means necessary.

If Dixon fails to finish, where would Helio have to finish?

Fontana claims another two Hondas... Dixon the last Honda-powered car still running. But for how long?

Just when this race couldn't be anymore crazy.

7 to go, Helio still a lap down. At the risk of hearing the fat lady, it's all done now.

A shame. All over. Power wins, Dixon to get the Championship.

Sounded like he was slurring his words a bit there, either that or that's just his STRAYA M8 accent

The Whiner wins because of one bad weekend for Helio. Lame, but whatever.

At least Power won the race.

It probably doesn't make sense to discuss the upcoming season in a current season of IndyCar Racing. However, I found this article on motorsport.com regarding next year's schedule:

http://www.motorsport.com/indycar/news/the-2014-indycar-season-is-already-a-wash/

If you're going on this notion, do you think IndyCar will survive and thrive moving forward? Will more need to be done to maybe make the series great again? What do you think?

It's a big problem IZOD jumped ship. I don't follow IndyCar closely enough to really make an accurate judgement, but it looks like they're in an identity crisis

It may not seem much of a popular decision for a motorsports fan, but I actually kind of like the mindset of not trying to compete with gridiron football schedule-wise. I do watch traditional sports. But despite this, I am always a motorsports fan before I am any kind of traditional sports fan. That said, I think more can be done to keep IndyCar strong or enhance it for the future. Among traditional sports, I would MUCH rather watch a race than follow any sort of baseball game. In fact, I think a LOT of people would probably rather watch a race than a baseball game as far as the usual months of an IndyCar Series schedule. But again, that's just me in regards to scheduling.

If I was the guy making the decisions of any sport (besides hockey) I would have my season over by August to not have to compete against football because that takes away a lot of the diminutive by comparison fanbase racing has in America

The main problem with ending in August is that after that there will be 7 months of offseason with no events to keep IndyCar on people's minds. I understand not wanting to fight a losing battle, but at the same time moves like this could very well make people focus more on other racing series' and not go back to IndyCar when it kicks off again.

August is way too early, motorsports always seems to compete with something for the spot light. I really think they need to try to latch on to some USCR events to help them gain fans or atleast not have huge issues money.

Just saw a bit of Race 2 in the final round and I must say I was amazed by how quick the cars are! I am wondering if F1 would have the audience it has if IndyCar had more media broadcasters. I don't think so.

Plus iirc in 2015 we will have Dallara supplying a new generation of chassis to replace the DW12. And if the series can keep drivers like Dixon and Power I can see myself swapping F1 for IndyCar.

They can't even get people in the states to watch it, they averaged 953,000 viewers per race in 2013. To put that into perspective, the Sprint Cup series averages about 5-6 million a race.

If they keep going on the current path they won't be around much longer.

Also, the DW12 was supposed to be replaced in 2014, but since I haven't heard anything I'd imagine those plans are on hold. Which isn't shocking considering how the owners complained about the cost of aero kits(that were also scrapped).

Was the DW12 really suppose to be replaced? If I remember correctly they were just going to upgrade it substantially over the next 5 years, and then they'll introduce a new car in 2020.

I'll be willing to bet IndyCar will be a thing of the past by 2020, but that's my opinion. I hope it grows, but it's not good that IZOD jumped ship

Damn, that's tough to hear. Hate to see him retiring far earlier then he could've, but its unfortunately for the best.
