Not really sure much more could be done with the Footwell without compromising it in other ways.
 
Maybe move the cockpit back?

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. The cockpit will still be open. There's not many options when It comes to open cockpit. maybe a small deflector glass like they use to have. But other than that. There's not much they can do right now.

Pretty sure you run the risk of then increasing the likelihood of other injuries. Its not that simple.

He got hit in the HEAD by a nose cone. Moving it back wont do a damn thing

Edit: My bad, but regardless. Moving it back won't do much to prevent anything in theat much of a small space

The only way it would work is with a longer wheel base but that would ruin the agility and possibly the races for Road courses.

This has no effect on the Wilson issue though.

These pilots are blasting around the track doing well over 300kph. That's quick. And that's dangerous for a bag of flesh and bones that can only reach a 10th of that under its own power.

Accidents will always happen.

What would happen if they extended the nose cone a few inches?

Basically, these kind of hits are on the highest end that can be achievable on a non Oval.

Besides it looks as though Indy will be the only Big Oval next year anyway.
