See, NASCAR needs to look at that. No stupid gimmicks, no BS, that is how you get asses in the stands.

Its a "once in a lifetime" opportunity, these milestone events tend to always sell out, I wouldn't read to much into it unless the attendance figures are backed up over the next 3-5 years,

So the IndyCar Series will rock Phoenix this Saturday night. Didn't I hear IndyCar hasn't raced at Phoenix in... 11 or 12 years? That's too long for a solid mile-long oval like Phoenix. That should be a pretty good race once it gets going. I hope the action is as good among smaller ovals like courses like Iowa.

I think of the entire Indycar field, only 4 drivers will be basically racing at Phoenix for the first time in 12 years in an open wheel car (Dixon, Kanaan, Castroneves, Montoya), though one of them technically kinda already knows what this new Phoenix feels like. Everyone else is pretty much new to the track.

If you're going to have so many drivers unaccustomed to a track like Phoenix, this can lead to either one of two things- (1) lots of mistakes by other drivers, or (2) a really wide-open field to determine who ultimately wins. Having experience on your side can make a difference. How much of a difference, though, is the real question here. Also, there wasn't the DW12 chassis when IndyCar last raced Phoenix. So this one could be wide open unless the experienced ones show everybody else how it's done at Phoenix.

Townsend Bell to drive a 5th Andretti car at the 500 and NBCSN will broadcast practice from Phoenix this Friday at 1pm ET and qualifying at 5pm ET live. Other than the Indy 500 I can not remember a time when practice was on TV.

I believe everything Friday is also being livestreamed.

Well things heated up quickly didn't they?

Is this a Saturday night race?

Rick Allen is lead on commentary due to clash with Formula 1 for Leigh Diffey. Not really sure if I want to watch the race.

Well he isn't Vinch Welch, Jerry Punch or Greg Creamer so there is that. Could be interesting as Rick isn't the ignorant dummy the ESPN clowns were.

As long as he doesn't constantly mention the Indy 500 I don't see how he could be all that bad.:nervous:

Phoenix is a tough circuit, and is a mighty challenge to many of these Indy car drivers. Turn down the sound and just watch and see who deals with it and who doesn't. This is one I won't miss.

By that requirement, he's already better then Cheever. I've yet to see NBC push the hell out of the 500.

Why would they, that would be like NBC promoting Super Bowl 50 on CBS this past season

Cross promotion. If they get more people watching the 500 and other ABC races there is a greater chance they will tune in for the NBCSN races as well.

And NBC did promote the SuperBowl.

You ready for Phoenix tonight? The Final Four may be tonight, but there'll surely be some madness at Phoenix with the IndyCar Series ready to rock in the desert.

Good luck to all drivers and teams tonight, including to your favorite drivers and teams. Put on a great show and be safe.

Anyone else hearing that awful droning sound?
