St Pete race delayed until Monday

By Matt Beer Sunday, March 28th 2010, 20:20 GMT

The St Petersburg round of the IndyCar Series has been rescheduled for 10am local time on Monday due to the storm that hit the circuit on Sunday afternoon.

Although this morning's warm-up took place in dry conditions, rain began during the Indy Lights race - and as the feeder series opener drew to a close, race organisers evacuated the grandstands and hospitality suites with weather forecasters suggesting a massive storm was imminent.

It duly arrived, complete with lightning, causing the IndyCar start first to be postponed by 45 minutes, and then called off until tomorrow as the rain continued to fall incessantly. Drivers out inspecting the track reported standing water six inches deep in places.

When the event starts tomorrow morning, Sao Paulo winner Will Power will start from pole position, having also been fastest in every practice session. Tony Kanaan joins him on the front row, with Scott Dixon - who topped today's warm-up - in third.

On the live feed carchannel put on (copied usa coverage) they said something about ESPN2 but im not 100% sure.

It was a good race, a couple of actions on track. I must admit, this is the first time I'm watching IndyCar Series and it was fun!

I was hoping for a wet race for a bit of kick but ah well, the sky went clear but at least the action was enough to entertain my boring Monday night :p

Two races down, and I've missed BOTH of them. I haven't yet seen any live footage this season (except for the rain delay stuff on Sunday when I was alternating between the NCAA Men's tournament and the St. Petersburg coverage). Can't wait for the next race!

Very impressed that Sato is really now showing what he can do. I thought that it would take a while before he gets to speed in the world of Indycar. Seeing him get 6th in qualifing in his third race in the series is a great result.

Let me tell you... I can't wait to see how IndyCar takes on the lovely Barber Motorsports Park. I always say that Barber Motorsports Park is like a European-style course in the American Southeast. This should be a pretty good race on Sunday at this lovely track.

Congratulations to (the winner at Kansas)! Now begins what I like to call, "May Madness." The road to the Indy 500 has begun!

I have a habit of staying with athletes and teams that I love, even when they aren't doing so well. So is the case with Danica. Maybe this transition from Indy cars to stock cars is basically hurting her to where Danica isn't really as competitive as she normally is. I'm hopeful she'll bounce back and really contend and really post higher finishes, like she did for most of last season.

My first live Indycar race yesterday, it was pretty interesting. 👍
Full marks for the free live stream, that is particularly excellent and shows up pretty much every other races series in the world.

I was following Sato and it seems I picked a good time to start watching live, I managed to log on just in time to ride on board with John Andretti and Ryan Hunter-Reay as they were overtaken by Sato. It was very fun to watch. I was gutted when Sato collected Mutoh though, but at least there is potential for future oval races.

My only gripe is the horrible camera position for the main stream..only 1 camera? But I was happy enough just riding onboard with various drivers, shame I couldn't keep the radio commentary as well even though it was fairly useless with the amount of advertising in it. Whats the point in having commentary at all when they can only commentate 5 minutes between adverts? It completely takes away from the experience and makes following the race very jumpy if I was only listening to it.

Are these events broadcast live in North America (Canada)?

Seems at times speedchannel should be re-named NascarChannel !

Speed never has aired the IRL series, apart from highlights.

IRL airs on ESPN or Vs. Not sure if either is available in Canada.

Some races may be on TSN or TSN 2 but haven't come across it yet (just highlights).

And I was only taking a dig at speedchannel, that's all :)
