I think what the monkey is trying to say is that Tavo Hellmund already had the track laid out in his head before the Tilke boys came on board. Proof of this is the sketch dated in 2007 from Tavo.
Yes. That's exactly what I mean.

Tavo Hellmund wanted to revive the United States Grand Prix. He also had the idea that he could take bits and pieces from some of the greatest circuits in the world, throw them all together in a melting pot and see what he could make. He lifted bits from Silverstone, Interlagos, Istanbul and even the old Österreichring. He then worked with Kevin Schwantz, who suggested the inclusion of the double switchback, which is modelled on Hockenehim's stadium section.

When Hellmund got the contract for the United States Grand Prix, he and Schwantz approached Hermann Tilke. All they really had was the concept for the circuit, and the FIA has some fairly stringent rules on what Grade-1 circuits have to include. Tilke gave the project to one of his engineers, Johannes Hogrebe. Hogrebe had to take Hellmund and Schwantz's original concept and adapt it to fit the rules (and the land that had been purchased) while preserving as much of the concept as possible. Hogrebe took this:

And turned it into this (although a few minor alterations at Turn 2 and Turn 9 have since been made):

Once that layout was finalised and approved by the FIA, Tilke GmbH took control of the project. Because of the demanding nature of the FIA regulations and Tilke's experience with circuit design and construction, his firm served as project managers.

Power's looking good for the title. He's weak on ovals, but if he can pick up a podium in Baltimore, he should be okay in Fontana whatever Hunter-Reay does.

I've often wondered if he is one of those rare drivers who can make the transition from Indycar to Formula 1 without trouble - but I doubt he'd ever consider it.

That chicane is ridiculous. I fear the inevitable first lap pileup.

Definitely better than the bump but surely they could have come up with a better one even if it did affect overtaking. No accidents so far. I hope Will can get the job done today.

Does anyone have a working live stream? Dutch Tv stopped live coverage after something with asphalt coming loose...

Ha. Explaining to my dad how the "starters" in Indy and F1 work.
Thankfully when they got Manica started back up, they had a great view of one.

EDIT: Love the side-by-side ads. You'd prefer no ads, but whatever. You can still watch the race.

Ah... shame. Sato out.

Great race RHR! That was the comeback drive of a champion! USA! USA! USA!

Onto the championship race at California Speedway! There are 250 laps, 500 miles between this race and a champion!

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I thought discussing the winners wasn't allowed until Monday? Why did I bother to come in here? :p

The only rule is no spoilers in thread titles. You should know not to come in if you don't want spoilers. :D

I wasn't aware of this rule? :ouch: Sorry. Just Ryan definitely deserved the praise. Was on the edge of my seat, hoping he'd win after that spin at Sonoma.

I don't understand why people who want to avoid spoilers open the very discussion threads that they know will contain spoilers.

You don't see people going to book reviews (first example I could think of haha :p) in real life and being surprised that there are spoilers. So why should it be different in an open-discussion internet forum?

Spoilers were the reason I avoided the Belgian GP thread since I hadn't watched the race until it was re-aired late last night.

I believe RHR needs to finish about 4-5 spots ahead of Will Power to win the championship. I forget how the Indycar points system is.

Is that all? I think he's in the driving seat in that case; if you had to pick the better oval racer of the two it would definitely be RHR.

That last restart was a farce. Hopefully Power puts him back in his place and takes his title finally.

So really only Power or RHR can win the championship at this point? Bets on who will be victorious? Who you want to win?

The only difference between that last restart and every other restart was that Briscoe was sleeping on the green flag.

Field goes on the green flag, not when the leader decides it's time.

Indycar looks like it has it's own driver silly season going.

Speed(M. Pruett and R. Miller) say that Penske tried to poach Pagenaud from SSM but Pagenaud has a tight contract with SSM. Could you imagine Simon Pagenaud alongside Will Power at team Penske? So with Simon Pagenaud staying in the SSM contract(there are a very good team in there own regard) Penske wanted RHR. to replace Briscoe.

Why does Penske want to replace Briscoe? Castroneves is the one who has looked like a clown on the racetrack all season long.

edit: wow igot tree'd while typing this..

That was the second last restart.

Last, second to last. Makes no difference in my point.

Pagenaud, RHR and a couple others had been timing the restarts perfectly to get positions before the first corner.
