I don't understand the logic in that. Because there's an Indy 500, there can't be a road course race at the same track?

The Indycars have the 500. Its been doing just fine (especially recently). So why do we need the road course? I'm fine with the Sports cars being there, but why Indycars? what need is there for them to run the road course?

I know I'm not making sense to anyone (unsurprisingly, I'm the only one that feels this way), but I just don't see the need for it.

Well not many tracks are suited for Indycar that are willing to pay to hold a race there, so when someone is offering to pay. It might seem odd to some folks but out of all the Rovals there are out there, this one seems alot better to use and one thing that proves that to me is F1 used it which is good enough for me.

Except its a series (which is not my argument). I just don't see why they are having a race on the Road Course. I'm not offended, I just don't see the need for it when they have the 500. Likewise, I wouldn't understand why NASCAR would have a race on the road course when it has the 500 (and the 400) if they did.


Let me make this clear: I don't hate Indycars, nor the series or the roadcourse (I love all three). I just don't see the need for it when it is in the same month as the 500. I'm not trying to be some nutjob traditionalist, I just don't see the need.

I'm waiting on the Daytona 500 to be broken into a 250 mile segment on the roval and then 250 on the oval :lol:
 
Indycar I think tested at Daytona in the 1950's but a fatal crash meant they never returned? Read something like that once...

I'm thinking though as GTPorsche mentioned, they didn't like the results.
 
Yeah, they did testing on the oval in the 50s just after the track opened. A driver was killed and they never returned.

A few years back they tested for a possible race on the bike course and didn't like the results. I don't think they want a road course event where the cars get near 200mph, and that's probably the reason they canned the idea. They already knew they couldn't use the traditional layout for the road course because the cars couldn't handle the transition onto the banking.

Also, rumor has it that Road America might host a Indycar race next season. Been a while since we've seen some open wheel action there so I'm all for it.

The more races at road America the better imo

Quoting myself instead of editing since there's no risk of a double post now.

I think the problem area is from the bus stop to turn 1 for them. There's a way to avoid the high speeds, but I don't think they want to set up a temporary chicane between NASCAR turn 4 and the pit entrance.

I think it may be an attempt to recapture the glory days of the "month of May" when the 500 was much more than just one race. With rookie orientation, practices, carb day, qualifying and the race, Indy was pretty much the sole focus of the motorsports world here in North America and much of the world for the entire month. While IndyCar in general has gained back some of its lost prestige since the split and the 500 has been better the last couple of years it is nothing like it once was. Maybe the thought is that running another race early in the month, squeeze in the rest of the Indy 500 prep stuff and then running the 500 they can get some of that back.

They took out one of the best parts of the track. All for the sake of having "passing zones". 👎

The new layout won't affect that one looking at the maps so the MotoGP course should be no different just some more shortcuts by the side of the road.

Todays IndyCar race was really a fun experience for me, especially when it yours first race, & you are in the front row of the main grandstand. :D

De Silvestro did well today. I was hoping that she beated Scott Dixon, but that caution came in the last few laps, and Dixion takes the victory under a yellow flag.
 
Fillipi was pretty impressive today as well.

Championship battle has tightened up as well. Really want Helio to hang on and score his first title.

She was closer to getting passed by Wilson than she was to catching Dixon.

As good as she was doing, Dixon was way too quick for her. Just over that one lap, he took off.

Even though Wilson was closer to her, she was catching up to Dixion from 3+ secs with 7 laps til the end, to 1.5 secs with 3 laps to go, but looking at the race on my TV, I see that it wouldn't been enough for her to catch Dixion.
