Either way a new chassis for the indycar series is long overdue.

Agreed. Great chassis builders like Swift Engineering and Elan Motorsports are right here in america so I dont know what the holdup is.

EDIT: Miller released a new article this morning

Wow... that's powerful stuff in that ESPN article.

Don't forget Panoz, if the IRL is desperate, and needs it lickety split, I heard fro one of my buddies who's in the know with these things says that Panoz had an aero package for the DP01 chassis (the chassis used in the '07 CCWS season) for ovals that was never used.

The guys at Elan are the ones that designed and built the DP01. Since Panoz owns that company, the final product had its brand name on it.

Team owners show support

The IndyCar Series owners advisory group, formed in the fall to discuss cost-saving and issues potentially impacting the future, issued a statement May 30:

During the past week there have been many rumors and innuendos about our CEO Tony George. We, the IndyCar team owners, want to express our full support to Tony. As an innovator and leader of our sport, he continually strives to help and improve IndyCar racing, and for that we are exceptionally grateful.

Two Internet stories May 27 reported that George had been ousted as CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway after an Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corp. board of directors meeting the previous day. One of the reports was subsequently removed from the site. George met with Indianapolis media and the Speedway issued a statement denying the reports.

George is the founder and CEO of the Indy Racing League, as well as co-owner of Vision Racing with his wife Laura and Patrick Dempsey.

Whoever was the bright man that thought of implementing the standardized wheelbase on the chassis is a real genius fool.

Congratulations to Scott Dixon on winning at Milwaukee. Paul Tracy didn't have a very good go at Milwaukee, finishing multiple laps down. The interesting story so far has been Danica Patrick posting her fourth-straight Top 5 as she finished 5th.

Really, I think Danica (and I love watching her race) is mostly winning strategy-wise rather than just being brash and just overtake other drivers like an Audi R15 blowing past a GT2 Porsche. Danica's finish has put her at 4th in the points, 22 points back and a sizable difference back from positions 2 and 3 in the points (tied). I don't think Danica has ever been fourth or higher in the points at any time in her IndyCar Series career. So you can say that she's quietly having a great season. Danica even admits there's now some confidence and some happiness going. She even talked about baking cookies for all the crew people or something. Maybe Danica is having a bit more confidence and having more a positive mindset. This, if anything, can help her to finish more consistently and even win a few races.

Up next... the IndyCar Series comes to my home state, and RACECAR's home track, often called the spiritual home of the IndyCar Series- Texas Motor Speedway. And we go from ESPN/ABC... back to Versus. Will you remember to watch Versus to see this race next weekend?

I think should stick to Oval racing on Saturdays. Competing with the sprint cup isn't doing that series any favors.

Surprising that Briscoe couldn't catch Castroneves in the last stint due to his earlier dominance of the race

For the Kiwi Viewers we now get the night races and Motegi Live on TV One (free to air channel)

Great job by Helio again. I mostly saw the second half because I was out with my parents while this race was going on. Danica's Top 5 streak came to an end as she finished 6th. Maybe that #7 car can start a new Top 5 streak starting in two weeks at Iowa. In fact, that will start a little series of short track racing as the next race after Iowa will be at Richmond.

I missed the race. I was out camping. Looks like from the results, Viso, Milka and Rahal went out in a first lap incident. Anybody see it?

Looks like Marco had one of his rare good drives and beat all his teammates. Danica dropped to 5th in the points, Penske boys and Ganassi boys ahead of her. (all of this season's winners) Kinda makes her the best of the rest. I believe she's ready for a Penske or Ganassi caliber team.

There was something wrong with Rahal's car that made it seem as if he were driving in the wet. :scared: Duno and Viso just got caught up in it.

Glad KAMKA-Z mentioned this about Danica. What if she joined either Penske or Ganassi next season? I have never disliked Danica. Never overrated her. As I said in the past, she's not a boastful racer to me. She's one of the smartest racers to me. She does pretty well in pit strategy. I think Danica will win her second career race this season, and maybe even a few more. I just get sick of people downplaying Danica Patrick.

She does throw her toys out of the cot on occasion and did anyone catch Marco's comments after the race im paraphasing but went along the lines of "everyone at AGR is a Team driver except one, i think we need to sit down and have a talk" talking about Patrick in the last stages of the race

What's ironic is that on SPEED, they played Marco's comment, followed by comments from Tony Kanaan basically saying Marco needs to STFU... suggesting "everyone at AGR is a Team driver except one"... Marco.

Danica Negotiating To Drive For Ganassi?

Chip Ganassi loves to shock the racing world, as he did by snatching Juan Montoya out of Formula One and bringing him to NASCAR three years ago.

But Ganassi is supposedly working on a deal at the moment that would not only keep open wheel racing's biggest name away from the clutches of NASCAR, it would likely advance her ascention in Indy cars.

And the 'ol Chipster would be a hero in the IndyCar marketing, public relations and promotions departments.

SPEEDTV.com has learned that Ganassi is considering signing Danica Patrick for a third car on the Target team for 2010, joining Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti.

International Management Group, which now represents Patrick in addition to Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning, is known for brokering major deals and supposedly has a Fortune 500 company lined up to partner with the only woman to ever win an Indy car race and Target/Ganassi Racing.

Ganassi didn't return phone calls Wednesday but his veteran lieutenant acknowledged adding a car for Patrick could be possible.

"We've always entertained having a third driver if we could get the comparable funding that Target provides us," said Mike Hull, managing director of Target/Ganassi. "If Danica has something and wants to talk to us, that would be great because I think she's ready to take that next step.

"But I can tell you we haven't spoken to her."

Hull is no doubt telling the truth since IMG agent Alan Zucker would be doing the talking and negotiating for the 27-year-old dynamo who currently represents Go Daddy.com, Peak, Boost Mobile and Secret in national television commercials.

Zucker, who also makes deals for clients Eli and Peyton Manning, could not be reached for comment via email on Wednesday.

Patrick's three-year contract with Andretti-Green Racing, which was sponsored by Motorola to the tune of $21 million, expires at the end of this season.

IndyCar lost three-time champ Sam Hornish Jr. to NASCAR in 2008, while open wheel stars Jacques Villenueve, Paul Tracy, Patrick Carpentier, Scott Speed, A.J. Allmendinger and Franchitti have all tried stock cars during the past couple years. Hornish and Allmendinger are having the most success.

Recently, Patrick expressed her renewed desire to win the Indy 500 (she ran third last month), which she led in 2005, and a championship (she's currently fifth in the point standings). Based on the past two years, her best chances for either or both of those goals would be driving for Roger Penske or Ganassi.

And, if she wanted to test the waters in NASCAR down the road, Ganassi could slide her right into one of his seats on the team he shares with Teresa Earnhardt.

It was rumored earlier that Dixon could be heading for a new team in 2010 (Gil de Ferran) but the two-time IRL champion still has two years on his deal with Ganassi. Franchitti is also believed to be ready for a new contract that would see him return to TCGR in 2010.

Former Indy Lights champ Alex Lloyd, who was signed by Ganassi in 2008, announced Wednesday he was leaving the team to pursue other opportunities. Lloyd's only two drives the past two years have come at the Indy 500 in a satellite team funded by Ganassi.
This is getting interesting...

That's interesting. Danica can win races, though most people talk about her like she's an overrated media darling. If things aren't working with Andretti-Green, then I'm sure Ganassi can... well, not make her a winner, but make her a consistent winner. Anything to make her the kind of contender she know she can be is a plus.

+1 John, the way AGR is going right now with all this tension and bad luck, they'll be lucky if any of their drivers win a race this year.

Ryan Hunter-Reay is used to being on the move. Now the Florida native will be moving from the No. 21 Vision Racing car to an ABC Supply Co./A.J. Foyt Racing entry for the remainder of the IndyCar Series season.

Hunter-Reay, who registered a second-place finish in the season opener on the streets of St. Petersburg, Fla., and is 10th in the championship standings, will debut for A.J. Foyt Racing in the Iowa Corn Indy 250 presented by Pioneer on June 21.

Paul Tracy (Milwaukee) and A.J. Foyt IV (Texas) drove the car as temporary replacements for Vitor Meira, who is recovering from a back injury suffered in the Indianapolis 500 on May 24. Meira is projected to return for the final race of the season in October -- at Homestead-Miami Speedway - and the team is expected to field two entries.

"Vitor is a friend and I know all of the drivers are wishing him a speedy recovery," Hunter-Reay said. "I am really looking forward to this new partnership with A.J. Foyt Racing and I will do my absolute best to help deliver the results we are all hoping to achieve."

Hunter-Reay, 28, who recorded his first IndyCar Series victory at Watkins Glen International last July, has 14 top-10 finishes overall in 29 starts.

"We're glad to welcome Ryan to our team," Foyt said. "It's been a tough year for us losing Vitor, but we're looking forward to working with Ryan. We know how good he is because he beat us at Watkins Glen last year (Darren Manning finishing second)."

Days before the start of the season, Vision Racing announced the addition of Hunter-Reay to the lineup as a teammate for Ed Carpenter. The No. 21 entry received primary sponsorship from IndyCar Series promotional partner IZOD for the Indianapolis 500 and at The Milwaukee Mile.

"We knew there would be challenges bringing Ryan on board at such a late juncture, but we did so knowing the benefits it would have to our program on the long term," Vision Racing co-owner Tony George said. "My commitment remains with keeping Ryan Hunter-Reay in the series and with Vision Racing for the long term. We had high hopes that we'd be able to attract the primary sponsorship necessary to continue through the course of the season and into the future. While those efforts have been rewarded with some positive developments and opportunities, which we are actively pursuing and developing, it did not provide for the short-terms needs and our ability to ensure a successful program for the balance of the season."

Hunter-Reay debuted in the IndyCar Series in July 2007 with Rahal Letterman Racing, advancing three positions to finish seventh at Mid-Ohio. A sixth place in the 2008 Indianapolis 500 earned Hunter-Reay the Chase Rookie of the Year Award.

"We all have the big picture in mind for Vision's future, and that is not only to find our way to Victory Circle but for Vision to have a program that is capable of challenging for the championship," Hunter-Reay said. "As competitive as the Indy Racing League is today, those goals require a strong commitment not only by the team but also by sponsors and partners.

"In the very short time I have been at Vision their efforts in developing sponsorship and B2B opportunities have yielded positive results which have laid a strong foundation we intend to build on. Knowing what I know today, I am optimistic of continuing with Vision in 2010 with a strong program."

Vision Racing, which re-evaluated its program following the Indianapolis 500, will suspend operation of the No. 21 entry for the season. Carpenter drives the No. 20 Menards/Johns Manville/Lilly car and the team competes in Firestone Indy Lights with driver James Davison.

"Following the Texas race, it became clear that this could be a reasonable solution to a number of challenges and it needed consideration," George said. "A.J. Foyt and I spoke candidly about what Ryan had to offer. We all feel Ryan will be able to contribute to their program and provide continuity for the rest of the season while they await Vitor's return."
