I'm a fan of F1 and Indycar but I don't remember a time when Indycar was ever the premier series. Even in the early to mid '90's which some regard as the peak of CART/Indycar, F1 was still the premier series and drivers were using Indycar to get to F1.

Notice the trying part of my post.;)

I did, just not quite sure what you mean by "a premiere" series, because even when Indycar might have been considered that the same type of driver transfers were happening.

Last time Indy was premier or close to like F1 was probably the 60s/70s when you could take your F1 machine and race the 500 as a non-points race in the series. Other than that not sure. The early 80s seem to be the only other time but even that was more akin to the 90s than the 60s/70s.

Why does it have to be a 'premier' series? Can't you do well without being a top championship? There is so much pressure on series actually be at the top. In most walks of life. I have just finished watching the St.Petersburg opener and I genuinely think, from my standpoint, IndyCar has more potential winners than F1 does. Drivers like Hunter-Reay, Dixon, Power, Castroneves, Pagenaud, Sato and one or two others all did well for me. It was naughty I think for Will to hold up the field as much as he did and go as slow as he did, but he is still I think, and going on my very early impressions of the series, a very good driver. And you have drivers like Hawksworth and Newgarden who I think have potential.

I like and watch F1, but I have far more respect for IndyCar drivers. F1 has high G forces yes, but they also have power steering and race on glass like surfaces.

IndyCars? I'd bet they create close to the same amount of downforce, no power steering means the cars are much more physical to drive on the smooth circuits, let alone street courses. On top of all of that, IndyCar drivers have to pony up and keep their throttle pinned into turn 1 at Indy going 230+mph balancing the car on a knife edge. And those speeds are going to go up rather quickly with Mark Miles wanting to break Arie Lyundyk's qualification record before 2015

Shame we couldn't see Hunter-Reay's onboard because some tool was doing an helicopter with the camera 👎

Looking in the mirror wouldn't have changed things. He needed to slow down..

I meant hypothetically In a real mirror....

I can see why RHR went for it, but don't think it was likely it could be pulled off.

So Hunter-Reay and Newgarden to Haas F1 should be cool.
I can already imagine what that would look like:
