So, I changed channel to "Inside Supercars" - and I swear I'm not making this up - just in time to hear Brad Jones say ...

"It's not about me stroking or spanking a driver."

:odd:

It was in reference to his other hobby - BDSM. Don't go thinking he's favouring any one driver over another now.

Wow that sucks, and if that's their end goal after the STCC races I saw with Scotty in...then so be it but what a waste.
STCC will be great again once they return to proper touring cars, these Solution F prototypes were a mistake made too quickly when S2000 started to die.

Goodbye Volvo:

Oh well, can't blame McLaughlin if he decides to join DJRTP now.
James Phelps is not a reliable source.

Same guy that claimed this week that Russell Ingall had won both his Bathurst title's in a Falcon. Have no idea why he's reporting on the sport, he clearly knows bugger all about it.

To be fair, the news about Volvo has taken everyone by surprise. It doesn't absolve him for his poor-quality reporting elsewhere, but maybe it's understandable in this one, isolated case.

Man, that sucks. I guess it's inevitable now that McLaughlin will be off to another team next year. Hopefully he lands himself a seat at DJRTP.

Edit: Speedcafe's article on the subject is actually a bit more positive. Garry mentioning they're still in talks with Cyan Racing and Volvo Australia. They're committed to running the S60 next season too.

Sure but the problem I have is that STCC hasn't said (at least from what I saw) about open development of engines to be used. Where v8s has. If anything keeping the s60 and using a more reasonable engine would have fulfilled the ideas of new technologies. This now just seems like money down a tube, sure if they win the championship this year with Scotty they'll only look even more silly for leaving I think. The sport has a chance to really move toward the future because unlike the late 80s early 90s, V8s aren't going to make a huge comeback automotive wise in the upcoming years. And really those V8s that do stay around will get smaller and smaller.

As far as I'm concerned, Polestar is the performance brand of Volvo. Personally, I see this as similar to HSV pulling the sponsorship off the rear guards of the HRT cars. The racing division is Cyan so it's not all doom and gloom yet
Wasn't the team funded by Polestar though, it would be like HSV having there own team and then dropping it, leaving what's left to decide what to race the next year.

From what it looks like now volvo Australia are the ones coming in, so maybe it's just a handover of management.

I think the days for this series may be numbered. There hasn't really been any positive news come about 2017, can anyone really see anyone new joining or anything shaking up the series a little?
