@LMSCorvetteGT2 I really just noticed it in straight line pace, even with the draft the corvettes and porsches were pulling away from it, though it being a turbo engine it may have a boat load of torque, which will make it more competitive overall on a more conventional circuit,

Ford and BMW in GTLM and BMW and Lambo in GTD need some work but other than Le Mans these cars wont run in this spec again this year.

Honda is very likely and could use it's PWC Acura based engine
The new 3.5L is that engine, the same one they tried to run in that DP last year.

Ah, gotcha, wasn't aware that the Acura was using the same engine. Gracias. 👍

And BMW's GTLM guys need to stop moaning about their speed, they were pretty good for once. The Turner GTD's can complain though because they were awful lol.

One thing that should concern Imsa was in the top class only 1 car (2 ESM) survived w/o some technical issues. I think the only issue the 2 car had that required a repair was the damaged bodywork when Pew speared them at the bus stop. The 10 nearly killed 2 of it's drivers with carbon monoxide, 90 had steering ECU and splitter issues, 5/31 half shafts, 02 brakes and I dont know what happened to the 01. Two P2 cars had engine failures, the 70 broke a flywheel and the BRO had multiple brake issues.

2017 with all new cars would have me scrambling for a used JS2 with a HPD engine and save the new car debut for Sebring.

On the opposite end of that the GTD field that wasnt designed to run on the high banks had 5 cars finish within a lap of the class winner.Only 3 GTD were classified as DNF which is pretty impressive for a new to Daytona spec of car. One thing they need to deal with next year is the top speed of the GTD's. They need to be under 175 mph to stay of out of the way of the GTLM cars.

PC and Daytona-bad combo for cars that werent built to run that style of track.

The easiest way to fix GTD is probably to have them run higher downforce and the same gearing at Daytona, otherwise they're good. :p If I'm the GT3 manufacturers who participated in the race, I'd be proud. The 3 retirements weren't the brand new or debut cars. And actually as @TDZdave pointed out, all the cars in GTD have done endurance races, all except the M6 GT3 and 911 GT3.

On the subject of Prototype, I think the Honda engine deal shouldn't be surprising since this was it's first 24 hour event, and the DP's issues are kinda un-noteworthy (though that exhaust leak needs to be looked at IMMEDIATELY, like NOW) since it was their last race at Daytona and last 24 hour event. DPi should be, slightly more reliable, since they'll all be using engines which have had endurance use (the GT3 engines anyway) so it'll be more of a matter of making sure the rest of the components work okay.

GM, Honda, Mazda, Audi, Bentley...anybody entering DPi next year needs to take note from the Ford GTLM's. Build your cars now and participate in a "race" or have a competition between teams in the organization. Nothing proves a car's worth like being driven in anger. Thousands of miles of testing didn't really help Ford. :scared:

There wasn't a "brand new" car in GTD, all cars in that category are more or less proven be it from a full season in Blancpain or the odd event,
So you have forgotten about the M3 already?:lol: they where bright yellow so you couldn't miss it.

They were so far behind because of BoP they may as well have not bothered, and because of that the only reason they made it on the broadcast was by complete accident,

We must ask ourselves a big question:

Best sounding car in each class?

So I'm potentially gonna head up to Watkins Glen to watch the race this summer, any tips from people who have gone to see one of these races on where is best to sit and what do do etc.? If i've heard correctly, IMSA tracks are some of the best for viewer experience.

You mean best sounding in P, and GTD, right? Because the PC cars in theory should sound the same, and I think we all know who sounds the best in GTLM...:D

Prototype - Corvette DP
PC - Derp :p
GTLM - Corvette C7.R
GTD - Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3/Lamborghini Huracan GT3

Get to know the people there. You'll meet all sorts of race fans supporting different teams and you can get some great banter going!

Also get AS CLOSE TO THE PITS AS POSSIBLE! At the Glen, maybe sit near the entrance to turn 1... the race start there will be amazing...

So... best sounding cars?

DP: Corvette DP (obviously)
PC: Erm...
GTLM: PORSCHE PORSCHE PORSCHE!
GTD: VIPER!

Looking back at the BOP table the Ligier HPD had +10kg and a boost drop at certain rpms from the roar and the Lambo had a +20kg increase and -2mm reduction in the restrictor.Lots of sand available in Daytona.;)

I can find no current BOP table that has the Huracan listed other than Imsa.:boggled:

The SRO dont always have it displayed, but I would also think that it wont be published until after the Paul Ricard test,

Lamborghini Huracan = Straight Line Speed OP

How many cars finished this year's 24?

New rules only require 1 lap to be run to be counted as driving the car for the points/results.

The name of the car itself. I did a quick search of something like "Viper" GTS-R and got mostly the cars from the eay 2000's. I assume it's just updated to the 2013 model.
It's in the post you quoted from me, Viper GT3-R. 2013 is when it started being produced.

Do you know if that a planned rule change, or did that come as a reactionary change from the Petit Le Mans last year?

Not sure. Could be both. It sounded like they wanted to make sure driver pairings weren't split in the points any longer.

I don't think it's going to bother IMSA all that much if the DPi won't be eligible at Le Mans.

It will however, discourage manufacturers from getting involved if they had plans to go to Le Mans with their DPi project.

Audi, GM and the now backing out Bentley probably aren't affected. Audi has LMP1 at Le Mans, GM's got the big Corvette's and Bentley is only interested in overall wins.

For the other rumored or "dream" entries:
Porsche, LMP1 overall and a GT effort again in 2017 so, not affected most likely.
Mazda, probably unaffected but displeased.
Honda, probably just annoyed but will probably go on anyway.
Alfa Romeo, probably very off put.
