Watching the race on YouTube, it's the Fox version. One. How do you put up with missing so much compared to the IMSA stream and two. Why don't IMSA put the stream version on YouTube instead of this version?

I'd much prefer the version with IMSA radio. Not only is there no commercial breaks, the Radio Le Mans commentators have always been my favourite.

Because here in the States, media has the leverage with tv control instead of being the other way around elsewhere. That's without considering that Fox doesn't care about motorsports in any way at all with NASCAR being the lone exception (and they suck at that too). We solve that by watching the IMSA stream or focusing on the stream of a specific car. The answer to the second question has a lot to do with number one more than likely as well.

I don't think they archive the stream.

PP1 - Give the privateer P1 teams that are honestly wasting their time in the WEC a chance to come over here as the premier class. Snag Rebellion and Team by Kolles, I wouldn't be surprised to see them take the bait as it's a cheaper running cost, as well as they would actually have a chance at winning. As far as the current DP teams that could switch over? Action Express could make do if they consolidate to a single car program, then I think allowing Mazda in would be ok as their car is never too competitive or reliable, as well as their chassis is basically just a Lola. It's a small class, but it would give the class the opportunity to grow, rather than be a laughing stock in the WEC.
A switch for Rebellion makes sense but they will need to make some drastic changes. The race only AER engine will not work, the new deal with Dunlop wont work in Imsa either, and the other big issue is how will this dispute about the P2 regs and Le Mans be resolved. That race has always been a priority for them so they need to be sure they have a engine that is competitive and compliant. The chassis will be no issue since they are already partnered with Oreca so in theory their current R-One can be converted into the Oreca 07.

Kolles probably isnt far away from some sort if indictment by the EU so I wont count on him showing up.

WTR and AXR are both GM factory teams and that will likely continue under the Cadillac name but there are rumors that Taylor could be the team so it's hard to say what AXR will do. I would expect GM to go with either Dallara or Oreca.

Mazda and Multimatic have been partners and I see no reason why that wont continue. Visit Florida/SOD want to go to Le Mans and are looking for partners and there is already a rumor tying them to Mazda as a customer team.

HPD will likely continue with Shank but maybe they will field or support a pro lineup too. Maybe the Acura name will return?

LMP3 - Same idea as the PC class, just switch to LMP3 machinery as it's equally as cheap and it looks a heck of a lot better. If they'd like to make it one make again, I'd be perfectly fine with that as well. I'm sure one of the engine and chassis manufacturers would love the exclusivity and the business
There is little interest in those cars here and they havent proven to be reliable or durable enough to run a 24hr race. I have posted it on here before i think the best option for the PC class would be the HPD ARX-04b with the 2.8L. If the cost can be kept under 400k the car could run at current P2 power levels and would be a perfect choice for pro/am teams.

PC will continue thru 2017 with updates so I dont think Imsa is in hurry to make a decision.

GTE - Leave the GTLM class alone. It's perfect.

GT3 - GTD class again, leave it alone.
👍

Expanding on a couple ideas here in the thread, here's my idea for IMSA from here on:

DPi Pro: LMP2 chassis with manufacturer bodywork and engines. Pro driver lineup (2 for the season, 3 for NAEC). Continental tires.

DPi Am: ACO-spec LMP2 chassis. Pro-am driver lineup (1 pro and 1 am for the season, up to 2 pros and 2 ams for NAEC). Tire choice open. Maybe replace PC with this?

GTLM: keep it the same.

GTD: GT3 cars. Pro-am lineup (1 pro and 1 am for the season, no more than 2 pros and unlimited ams for NAEC). Continental tires. Ditch the manufacturer's entry fee (or at the very least, if for whatever reason it's not possible, waive it for NAEC entries).

Can we vote you into power in IMSA?

The manufactur entry fee is very important, it contributes to paying the staff, the facilities, and basically keeping the series running. If it goes then the private teams would have to pay more. It isnt a way for the people at the top to earn more money like other forms of Motorsport. ;)

I have a sneaking suspicion that this may be WTR's last year in the Prototype class. WTR has been struggling for money the past few years, even after they received the Konica Minolta sponsorship. As well as Jordan and Ricky are going to begin what I believe will be a career over in the #3 car at Corvette. Starting with the two of them running at Le Mans this year, then moving to the #3 car full time in 2017. I've got a feeling that Jan is almost ready to retire, and that Corvette are wanting to drop Garcia. That leaves the #3 car open for them to do. As for what will the WTR team do? I believe they will make a switch to the GTD class with a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 come 2017. They're already struggling for money, and they'll be forced to buy a new chassis next year anyway. I'd be willing to bet they make the switch then as the costs are much much cheaper to run GTD as opposed to the new DPi class. Just what I think will happen.

Is it possible that Chevy end up going the path of DPi with P&M and possibly leasing the Vettes to WTR in 2017?

Oh man I can already hear Wayne whining about the BOP in GTD. Apparently Justin Bell called him out on the Fox broadcast when Wayne was crying about the HPD that he would complain the bars of gold he had in his pocket weighed too much.

Jordan full time in the 3 I can see, but Garcia was the quickest guy in the 3 car. The 30 fastest laps by the 3 car,25 were with Garcia driving and Rocky the other 5.

Supposedly WTR has been approached by manufacturers for 2017 and prototypes. It was discussed on RLM/IMSA Radio during the race.

That's not shocking since I'd imagine anyone with the ability watched the stream.

I heard that, I think that GM might be wanting to retain WTR since of all the teams, Wayne's has the most history with them. Though at the same time, there is also the question of whether his sons will stay prototype racing or go to GTE after that supposed rumor about Larbre becoming a factory Corvette team in WEC and the team actually talking to Wayne about having them both driving for them.

Let me think: Watch the stream that has no commercials and lets me watch all the action without commercial breaks, or watch the Fox "coverage" that's simply tv for 10 minutes and commercial break. Yeah, that's a no brainer.

Maybe sportscar racing will always be a niche product. Not all because of the length of the races though, but because its more about the cars then the drivers. If fans cant really rally behind a Dale Earnhardt or Ayrton Senna I think its hard for a series to gain mainstream attraction. Even Tom Kristensen has to share the car with 2 other drivers.

Last year on FS1
5 UNITED SPORTSCAR CHAMP: Daytona International Speedway Sun 7:00AM- 2:30PM 450 0.2 245
6 UNITED SPORTSCAR CHAMP: Daytona International Speedway Sat 8:00PM-10:00PM 120 0.2 239

FS2
4 UNITED SPORTSCAR CHAMP: Daytona International Speedway Sat 4:00PM- 7:51PM 231 0.1 89

2015
Coverage of the 24 Hours of Daytona auto race drew a 0.4 final rating and 525,000 viewers on FOX last Sunday, down a tick in ratings and 34% in viewership from last year (0.5, 791K). The rest of Saturday’s action drew a 0.1 and 89,000 on Fox Sports 2 — flat and down 32%, respectively — and a 0.2 and 239,000 on Fox Sports 1. Sunday’s conclusion drew a 0.2 and 245,000 on FS1, flat and down 36%, respectively, from last year (0.2, 383K)

After a dip in 2015 they are now slightly better than the 2014 numbers so this is a good thing. The broadcast still sucks and they need to find a new broadcast partner but atleast the ratings have improved (some).

That fact that its barely better then 2014 ought to be a big enough red flag to ditch Fox.

It's kind of hard for people to watch the race when Fox puts it on the channels that not many people have.

Yeah FS2 isn't on Comcast so I was stuck to the stream for most of the race.

Many years ago when Australia used to have a 24h of Bathurst, that race had the best coverage presented by a free to air channel, you got the first 2-3 depending where you were in the country, ad breaks were less then 5 minutes and far apart, then they had a news break for an hour, another half hour of the race, then do the Saturday night movie, all the while giving hourly updates through the movie, a mid night full hour recap, a late night program, then racing from 230am-6am, morning news programs again with updates throughout, then lunchtime through to the end live,

I still think we need a SPEED Channel-esc channel again. I don't watch US football, so 95% of these sports channels are exactly the same to me. Where's a motorsports channel for us gearheads?

I just want an all motorsports channel...that's all I want. Heck, I'd pay to help fund it...

:(

Yeah but have we heard any more on this outside of the talks that happened around September of last year?

Speed Channel was awful. That was when it had already been taken over by dozens of NASCAR pre and post race shows. What we need is the old Speedvision channel back. They only had racing, and plenty of it of all different forms of motorsport around the world!

Which happened when guess who bought them? Fox.

Speed Channel still had many different forms of motorsport and only started to get really Nascar Focused late in its existence.
