Germany out in the groups
Portugal, Argentina, Spain, Colombia out in the Last 16
The lowest ranked team make the quarter finals
England win on Penalties.

WHAT IS THIS WORLD CUP???

Its England, Sweden, Russia or Croatia in the World Cup Final.

That's pretty mad!

Did anyone else think Ospina was standing off centre in the goal? It also looks like the penalty spot itself was also off centre... and Ospina's only save came from a shot that went to his left...

I probably should say I really don't like him, he's a politician, lies just spew out of his mouth at every opportunity and he wouldn't ever get a job in the Premier League yet he's the England manager.

Also because he played with a lot of the pundits on TV he's given a pass on many things that others would be called out on and that bothers me too.

Still I'm glad England won and hope they continue to do so, not that I don't expect them to mess it up, as they very much tried to today.
He always came across as a gent when he was playing, but he keeps his guard up since moving into management. I've always respected him for this though

Fair play to England. They deserved to win that game and it would have been cruel on Pickford if he didn't finish on the winning side after the save just before Colombia scored. Time for me to replace my Colombia jersey with a Swedish one.

He did. He managed Middlesbrough, for three years (four, including the Championship season).

Did yes, in the past, so did a lot of others who wouldn't get anywhere close now. Then again maybe I'm giving the owners too much credit thinking they would all have sense.

As long as he doesn’t come off his line he can stand where he wants.

I wonder if that was the spot they tried to sabotage. I didn’t see it but apparently just before Harry Kane’s penalty in the second half, two Columbia players were scuffing and stamping on the penalty spot.

Woy managed palace and got a credible 11th place after tipped for relegation.

It wasn't, but as my photo shows the shootout spot looks like it was a fresh spot to the right of an older spot... and that might explain why Ospina was off centre for every kick - I just watched the shootout again and he's out of position every time... and Pickford wasn't!

Also, Pickford's crucial save was about as good as it gets... his foot was still behind the goal line when the ball was struck!

An interesting stat I've just noticed.

Every single World Cup winning manager was managing their own country. This means that Belgium are the only team left that can break this record. All the other remaining teams are managed by their countryman.

Harry Kane on 6 goals now, Lukaku is realistically the only one who can stop him from winning the Golden Boot as he is on 4 goals, Ronaldo is also on 4 but Portugal are gone, other players who could stop him are Mbappe, Cheryshev and Cavani but there are all further back on 3 goals, plus Cavani has a calf problem.

That was the finest display of what's wrong with modern football in quite some games.

Ship both teams back home, and call Japan to come back.

Which game? England and Colombia or Switzerland and Sweden?

England Colombia.

England got sucked into Colombia's dirty play and responded the wrong way. Instead of joining in the dirty play and diving, they should have used their superiority to just humiliate Colombia.

Eh. Sweden and Switzerland just were dull. Seen plenty of those games this WC.

This game was annoying to watch as a neutral. At a certain point I felt as if I was watching 22 Neymar/Ramos hybrids running on the pitch

I think you've hit the nail on the head there..

Southgate seems like a yes man, a safe bet for the FA - someone who isn't going to do an Alladyce... The FA had nothing to loose as we had a pretty easy group to qualify and we'd already won our opening games.

Having this run of good luck in Russia might mean the FA will keep him until the next Euro's as like yuo say, he sure as hell isn't going to go to the Premiership..

Although, football is a crazy game, just look at Hodgson and Palace :boggled:

Cant wait for the end-of tournament highlight reel of Harry Kane's golden boot; a glorious slow-motion compilation of four 2 yard tap-ins, six penalties, and one outrageous deflection.

A golden boot is a golden boot. Doesn't matter how you get it. If Lukaku scored 10 against a protesting Brazil for one reason or another, that's how he gets 10 goals.

I reckon that all this talk of overcoming their penalties curse is a tad premature considering that England's next 1/2/3 games could easily be decided by penalties too...
