Hopefully they upload qualifying to the Imsa youtube channel before tomorrow. Apparently having Imsa DVR'd on PSVue from last year's season doesn't carry over into this year so I missed it.

Core is joining in on the retro theme as well.

I didn’t notice until watching qualifying, but as good as this retro livery is, it’s incomplete since it’s not #23. On Nissan racecars, the #23 is actually part of the livery, as 2-3 can be read as “Ni-San” in Japanese.

Another fun fact, Mazda uses #55 on a lot of its factory cars because 5-5 can be read as “Go-Go” in Japanese. This happens to be Mazda’s advertising slogan, which loosely translates to “Zoom Zoom” in English (Zoom Zoom sounds cooler than go go)

is the Michelin Pilot Challenge the same as the BMW Endurance race? Couldn't find the GS-TCR race on YouTube.

Speaking of Michelin Pilot Challenge: am I correct to understand that you can watch it on IMSA TV live in the US? Please tell me I didn’t just dream it up :)

EDIT: it seems it wasn't just a dream :)

"***Watch the BMW Endurance Challenge at 12:05 p.m. ET, live on IMSA.tv, featuring commentary from the IMSA Radio team led by John Hindhaugh, Jeremey Shaw and Shea Adam. "

Alright, half hour in. 4:47 here in Australia. Hopefully plenty of TCR shots.

Well, that's one way to get more TCR coverage. Poor Alfa.

That pink Mustang should have pit. It's getting eaten alive.

Hondas looking good after the stop.

I'm in the same timezone as Daytona, so watching while working is challenging, I'm just listening in, IMSA Radio/Radio Le Mans is great as always. I'm in general not particularly fond of FWD race cars but I do like touring cars in general and TCR does look really good, As an Audi A3 Sedan driver I obviously root for the RS3 LMSs (gotta make some laps on Daytona in Forza 7 with that car) but I also like the Veloster Ns, they look really good (plus Norbert Michelisz races in an i30 TCR) and of course, Cuore Sportive, really glad to see the Alfas up there.

Still over 2.5 hours to go!

(I'm also planning a visit to Watkins Glen for the WeatherTech round there, another 4 hours of MPC and 6 hours of the big boys, looking forward to see these bad boys in real life.)

Yeah, I'm looking forward to attending the debut TCR season, in a few months.
This would be epic!

Think he was being interviewed earlier. He just said he was just hired as consultant for the moment. We'll see. :)

I think it’s cool what Almendinger and Bell are doing this year, driving and commentating.

How cool would it be to have Junior and Gordon do the same in a Cadillac...with maybe Johnny O’Connel and someone else to share driving. I’d root for that car :P

O'Connel? Wow, that's going way back! Remember Fellows? Bring him back. Might find him having breakfast at The Brown Derby. :D

That new Vantage looks like a Tesla.

Also good to just hear, ImsaTv will have all live races, uninterrupted and not geoblocked.

Is that not Geoblocked anywhere, or just where you are (you’re in Auz right?)?

I really hope the IMSA stream with RLM commentary is available in Canada. There’s a few personalities on nbc that are interesting, but overall i prefer the rlm commentary way more.

Not Geoblocked anywhere. 👍

Good stop by the Veloster, as it's moved up to 2nd.
Edit: make that 4th after being swam... oh, it got punted off by the #89 CTR. Dang, got it going with damage though.

That’s awesome to hear!!!

So does that mean that since earlier this week, they’ve changed their mind? It seemed like the race would be geoblokced in North America as of a few days ago...but judging from just Twitter alone, that didn’t go down so well with many fans. Hopefully this means they actually listened to the fans.

I agree, it doesn't appear to be Geoblocked for Canada, not yet anyway.

I do have some more information about the IMSA Youtube channel: Qualifying for the Daytona 24 will appear on the channel tomorrow (26th) in the afternoon, as it was carried live on NBCSN and so they had to wait 48hrs. For the other races, qualifying will likely be posted on the same day they occur.

The full races will be posted on the Thursdays following the events. (The races used to be posted on Tuesday, but I can live with Thursdays).

That Alfa is fast, but the CTR is looking strong.

Edit: Awesome finish for Honda.

Those McLarens were too fast. Nice to see the Vantage bow out on a high.

With regards to geoblocking IMSA.tv:
- WeatherTech Sportscar Championship is geoblocked where they have TV deals in place, including Canada
- Michelin Pilot Challenge is available everywhere love on IMSA.tv

Not sure about the IMSA Prototype Challenge though, I would assume it would also be available, the race at the Roar was at least

I was just thinking about this idea of manufacturers or teams using specific numbers that are special to them, and starting thinking if there are any other teams that have a similar practice. The ones I can think of are:

Porsche, #911 - this one is super obvious, but I’m not too sure about how long Porsche has been using the #911 on their racecars (I don’t think 3 digit numbers were used on racecars until quite recently)

GM/Chevy, #3 - this one I can’t quite figure out, but my gut tells me it has something to do with Earnhardt. I just don’t know my nascar history far back enough to know whether Earnhardt brought the 3 to Chevy, or if Chevy already used 3 when Dale started driving it. Either way, as long as I can remember, there’s always been a #3 Corvette, including the year both Earnhardts drove that ‘Vette at Daytona. Furthermore, the styling that Chevy uses for the 3 (when it’s not governed by the sanctioning body) seems to mimic the styling of the #3 on Earnhardts car (side note, I’m pretty sure Daniel Ricciardo’s #3 is a tribute to Earnhardt as well). Maybe none of this is correct, but it would be really cool if that’s why Chevy continued to use #3

Toyota; #98 - this one is even more of a stretch, I just know that a lot of factory Toyota racecars over the years have been #98. I’ve also seen Toyota Fan Club, Toyota owners club, Toyota Bosozoku club, etc stickers that incorporate the number 98 into the sticker.

Does anyone know of any other teams or manufacturers that have ties to specific numbers?

The #3 was originally Richard Childress' number when he was a driver (in a Chevrolet). Obviously it found much more success with him only being the owner. As for it's use on the Corvette I'd imagine it's part tribute and part marketing strategy.

It is.

I've always wondered the meaning of "98" as well. Googling it is pointless as even though I'm sure the answer is there, you would have to search through millions of "98 Camry/Corolla" listings to find it and I don't have that time!

Ford uses 66-69 as a tribute to their original Le Mans wins.

Various Aston Martin teams have used 007 for obvious reasons.

There's also a few teams/sponsors like Black Swan (540 or as close as they can get), CORE (54), Risi (62) and Whelen (31), but I don't know the connections.

That's funny you brought up Ron Fellows. Theres an article where Jr. said he might be interested if the right people were involved such as Ron Fellows and Borris Said.

Edit: here's the article

Will the Rolex 24 be cable only or can you watch it through an app? I'm going to be out of town the entire day

It will be viewable in it's entirety on the NBC Sports app. But you need to have a cable subscription in order to use it.

but if you're like me - no cable -, you can still listen to IMSA Radio/Radio Le Mans via the IMSA app

#3 in IMSA is most certainly a reference to Earnhardt. First, both him and Corvette Racing shared a title sponsor in the early years of the Corvette Racing program in GM Goodwrench. This is most apparent in the color scheme of the first C5 R. (See previous page) Corvette Racing likely took the number when he raced for them in the Rolex 24 as a marketing ploy and to signify the involvement of the Earnhardt family. after Earnhardt Sr. died following the 2001 Rolex 24, Corvette Racing renumbered the team to 3 and 4 out of respect. This wouldn't be the first time Corvette would number their cars after the Earnhardts as later the team would later enter a #8 car piloted by you-know-who. There you have it.

Should Corvette collaborate with Jr, I would expect them to use #88 if they run a third car. More likely, WTR would open up a seat in the 10 car, since that's usually what they do anyway

As far as I know, none of the IMSA support series(Prototypes, Porsches, Lambos, or the Michelin no-longer-ConTi-no-longer-Koni series) have ever been blocked on IMSAtv, just the top level. I'm assuming it will continue that way, but it's too bad for our Canadian friends that they now have to deal with TV and whatever shenanigans they do for the WeatherTech series.

It's usually worked so that you can at least watch the on-boards while listening to the radio broadcast, just not the full TV-style feed. Hopefully at least that will continue too, but I guess we shall see.
