CSA Nations Cup... Love the SF19 here, feels great all around the track, other than the 🤬 chicane, I had an absolute nightmare with it...

Slot 3. Disconnected after matchmaking, great start... Luckily, I didn't lose any DR from that race. Maybe the whole lobby crashed?

Slot 4. Absolutely bottled my qualifying in the chicane. :banghead: Started from P17 on mediums. In that midfield, the race was absolutely impossible. Was hit several times, pushed to the gravel and spun around. Somehow managed to still make it to P12 at the finish.

Final slot, door #13. It wasn't a great lap, a little bit too conservative, but my 26.1 was good enough for pole by half a tenth. Happy days.

Made a good start on softs, used some overtake to lead safely into T1. Unfortunately, I couldn't break the slipstream to the car behind during the first lap and had a poor last chicane, which meant I was a sitting duck on the main straight at the end of the first lap. Guy behind had a great exit and applied a lot of overtake, so I got overtaken into T1.

Leader built a gap of a couple of seconds, he had a little bit more pace than me. Despite a wheel-to-wheel moment into T5, I managed to keep P3 behind. I pitted at the end of lap 9, but the leader went on, so I had a little bit of an undercut which meant he only had a 1 second gap after the stop.

Tried to push until the end but nothing I could do to get the win. I actually bottled the chicane again on the final lap, just managed to save the car, and luckily I had a little bit of overtake left as otherwise I might have lost P2.

In the end, P2, a second behind the leader, with P3 just a couple of tenths behind. Failing to win from pole kinda gives you mixed feelings, but still very satisfied with the result and points scored, specially considering it was the final slot. :cheers:

North America Slot 1 - A/S, B/S 159 point lobby, door 17, Q16, P11

Had a poor qualy, but a great first lap and was running 10th after all the T1 carnage and penalties served. Looking decent until lap 3 when MKM spun me out as he barged by at turn 10. Fought back to 11th at the end. 90 points, and lost 100 DR ~29.5K

Slot 2 - A/S, B/S 154 point lobby, door 20, Q4, P3

Let it all hang out in qualy this time and was pleased to line up 4th. At the start, 3rd place couldn't get a launch and that was it. Up to third where I stayed for the entire race. Ran 10S/3M and picked up 141 points and a second consecutive Nations Cup podium. Also gained almost 1700 DR and back to A/S with ~32.2K DR.

Pleased with my efforts tonight. No so pleased with the dirty driving that's so rampant, though. ( @HaydenFan69, our guy is already back up to SR-S after the 4th slot :indiff: )

Love driving the SF19 and always happy to break out the Roland Ratzenberger livery for an FIA. :)

I truly went to hell and back today. First two slots were a disaster and resulted in my SR getting knocked down to B. I was seriously close to getting reset. Had to do a Race C and the next FIA slot just to get back up to 97 SR.

This brings us to the fourth slot, which unfortunately wasn't free from stupidity. Had my qualifying ruined by some oblivious fool who came out of the pits right at the start of my flying lap and decided to stay on the racing line instead of moving aside. This resulted in me starting 12th. The only way I could finish anywhere decent now was by going for a big undercut, so I went with the 4M/9S strategy. It payed off significantly as I found myself in 6th by the 12th lap. 7th wasn't too far behind, only being about a second or so away, but I fortunately had a quarter of overtake boost left and I used it to hold on to my position until the end.

This round gave me so much grief. Love the SF cars, but I didn't find them pleasant to race at Catalunya.

I was expecting closer racing for this one but having heard that the dirty air was making things difficult I decided to really nail my qually lap.
Smashed free practice, around half a second faster than I was expecting so I just needed to not bottle it and I should be good for top 5 on the grid.
Door 16 so everything to gain and lots of welcome messages between players so we should be in for a decent lobby.
My usual tactic of going out with the pack and quitting half way round seems to be working as again I had clean track for 2 flying laps. Luckily I nailed the first one as I crashed in the second but it was enough for pole by over half a second.
TC 1, hold the boost and managed to hold p1 into t1. Myself and p2 pulled a gap to the rest by lap 3. Laps 4-6 p3 managed to catch and pass p2 which looked like a good battle but allowed me to pull a huge lead. P4 pitted early from mediums so I was a little worried about the undercut but ran clean laps until p9 when I came in for mediums. Came out with a driver right on my tail which put me under some pressure on cold tyres and I managed to wobble round after a few mistakes. Thankfully they pitted before I bottled it and I was able to bring it home for the win.
Sadly fastest lap was taken away by the p4 driver on the penultimate lap by 0.01s, a clean sweep would’ve been really nice but I didn’t quite have the pace on mediums to match it.
Quite a lot of red sr to the rear of the lobby but lots of apologies between drivers and nobody kicking off which is good to see.
Some good results here on GTP and it was nice to race the SF cars at a new combo, even if dirty air was challenging in the midfield.

Reminded me of the running sprint races where its when your head crosses the line, not your foot or your arm, so they all lunge for the line. They've taken a similar approach here using the driver position in the car. Which would actually give some cars an advantage over others in an insanely tight finish.
 
Fine margins around Le Mans, especially this corner (tertre rouge?)
As far as I can tell, your left wheels shouldn't cross the white line. But I could be wrong. Easily .3s to be gained there if you hit this corner right.
Currently sitting at a 3:56.7, optimal is a .2

Wasn't sure what to expect, having never really raced the SF cars. But it was quite a lot of fun. Also glad to see penalties were kinda back. Not as extreme as previous iterations, but should be able to clean up the lobbies a bit, I hope. Reckon a lot of us, adapted to the lax system, where you had to get your elbows out to survive, so it'll take some time to dial that back. But clean drivers shouldn't struggle to do that, hopefully.
 
It's still way too easy to game the penalty system, and DR and SR.

Over 5 slots last night, our favourite Portuguese/American dirty driver went from 41K DR, 99 SR, down to 15K DR, 23 SR (a pretty hefty reset indicative of a filthy race) and back up to 23K DR and 99 SR. So basically you can still create absolute havoc for a race or 2 and easily work your way back up to do it all over again in a few days.

Good point. Not sure why they would've taken that approach, when motorsports in real life are more akin to horse racing, the first part of the car/horse to touch the finish line:

Maybe the game is only programmed to know the location of the driver, and not the very front of the car?

It might explain a lot of things... I wouldn't be surprised if the game uses the driver as the position of the car for every system. That'd also explain why other cars never go onto two wheels online - if the game only tracks the coordinates of the driver, it can't really know that one side of the car is higher up than the other.
 
REALLY wanted to run the SF at Catalunya last night. But had a birthday party to attend, and even though I got back in time to run the last slot or two... had probably dulled my reflexes a bit to much by then to risk the potential SR disaster that can come of racing these cars in the close quarters of a grid start, and wouldn't have been tidy enough in qualifying to secure a good starting spot (even though I had practiced a ton and put in some 1:26.x laps in FP during the week). Feels like I missed out, though, and I'm bummed about that!
 
Not a fan of SF19 races on GTS but jumped in with very little practice and decided to not spoil other peoples races so I didn't qualify and started 20th, finished 17th with one non-finisher so net gain of 2 places and totally forgot about the overtake button while making my way up to 9th before my pitstop. It was fun racing from the back but without practice and my little interest in getting involved in some of the crazy stuff up ahead I had managed for most of the race to keep it on the track and lowered my time as the race when on but!!! I had the slowest lap time so I think not using the overtake played a part.

Edit: I did have @ZiggyS80 pop into my practice lobby. That was a good thing that happened this race. Always nice when a fellow GTPer takes a moment out of their way to say hi!

Once again, last night's FIA was a night of frustration. I think I've hit another one of those plateaus, where my pace is not all that great for my DR and when I push myself to find more speed I start losing control of the car.

Slot 1 I qualy with a pretty good time for me and end up P9. I go with a 4M/9S strategy. Knowing the mess that's ahead in T1, I take it a little bit easy and play it safe rather than for place. I end up in a real pushy group going 2-3 wide every turn and someone always pushing inside at every turn, whether there's an opening or not. My pit on lap 4 unintentionally gives me an undercut opportunity and I push to try to make it work. Long story short, I only overtake one guy with the undercut and end up back with the same group after they all pit. And then finally, the inevitable happens. Somewhere around L9 or 10 one of the guys pushing to my inside sends me into a spin coming out of T12, costing me something like 10 sec and sending me all the way to the back. I eventually limp my way across the line in P14, as plenty of the other backmarkers spun themselves around giving me some easy positions. The only solace I could take out of the race is that that I was the only driver below P9 that had a blue SR at the end of the race.

Slot 2, I completely bin qualifying and start P17. I was fine with that given all the likely carnage coming up in the opening laps. Looking at the Q times, I know that if I was actually able to bang out consistently fast laps I should be in the top 5, just based on pace. Long story short, I had worked my way up to P8 at one point but just shot myself in the foot. At one point I go very wide and into the gravel coming out of T12, losing something like 3-4 places. Later, after I fight my way back up and am vying for P10 again, I lose the back end and slide into the gravel coming out of the final turn, not only letting P10 run away into the distance put also give up 2 more places. P12 is where I end up.

These last several races have been very frustrating for me. I don't know if I'm hitting a plateau or if I'm hitting the ceiling of my skill level - which would be really sad if 20k is as good as I can get at this game. I dunno, maybe it's a good thing that I have a busy work week coming up and will have to put the controller down for a little bit.

The last time we were at Spanish Grand Prix for the Nations cup. we had a pretty awesome result :gtpflag:

So We were pretty confidant coming to this Round, We spent the whole week in free practice With a time of 1:26.04 and OpT of high 1:25 and we were bulldoze lol -_- it felt like totally different setting in the race we were 4 sec slower we couldn't adapt at all.

race 1 Qualify 12th by lap we were up to p8 and 5 sec behind the leader and than we got turn and end up last, we had to crawl up back to p14

Race 2 n 3 we couldn't put a time on the qualifying board by making mistake and ran out of time. so we started last both time and finish p11 and p9

race 4 we got lucky and catch slipstream right after the chicanes and use our boots to secure p7 in the race we finish p4 and relegated to p5 after track limit penalty yeah were pushing too hard -_-

And so we were feeling good for race 5 tho our pace were still off we had a plan and well -_-


Mini Rant: Why can't we get the exact race setting/condition in free practice. what's point of free practice if its not the same at official race \rant -_-

Additional note: We stay off hosting lobby because we were afraid of the disconnection bug, I guess its a risk we have to take going forward with the rest of the seasons

I did some test yesterday and it seems that possible to pass inside the white line.
It wasn't ok to do this during others events before .:confused::confused:
 
On a side note: does anyone know/organise a daily practice lobby for the upcoming Nations and Manu? Or is there a standard time where most of you get together? A few weeks back I had a race with some of you in preparation for Lago West. It seemed to me you all knew the time slot most of you should be there in order to race together. Or it might have been a coincidence. I don't know. But that race was very interesting and helpful. Would be nice to know if there is a standard time/appointment.

It's hard to be able to tell you much without the inputs. I'd be interested in those same pictures you posted of Deafsun but what his throttle inputs look like at the time. You can get away with a lot if you simply carry enough momentum into it so you don't need to apply any throttle. The moment you do apply throttle PD will get you each time.

Which is very interesting because when I took that similar line in the Citroen I didn't get a penalty at all...

Seeing the lines Deafsun takes, they are super aggressive. The only ones from those pictures that are not penalties are T3 (exit of Dunlop), T8 (apex of Tetre Rouge and exit is fine on the curbs) and exit of T25 (Corvette curves).

Edit: I mean penalties in real life at the Le Mans 24.

Small miracle but I somehow got my old T3PA pedal set working again.

I got a chance to try out the Ricmotech springs and, long story short, the brake pedal with the clutch spring is too heavy for my taste. I could see the benefits with heavy braking but I struggled trying to apply smaller amounts of pressure for trailbraking. I suppose if I prop up my set so I'm pushing more forward than down on the pedal, it would work better. Anyways, I decided the regular brake spring on my new T3PA would be good enough.

As for the throttle spring, having Le Sarthe as the next Manu combo highlighted the benefits of a heavier gas pedal, especially with a fuel laden GT-R on hards. While the throtle mapping continues to frustrate, my finesse with partial power application has gotten better. I went ahead and swapped it in on my new pedal set.

For anyone that wants to know, the Ricmotech throttle spring will make your pedal nearly as stiff as the default T3PA brake spring.
 
So my first venture into competitive super formula. Needless to say I don't drive this car much, to the point I had to play with the button mappings to find the most comfortable spot that I can engage the boost function easily.

First slot - In either 2nd or 3rd split. Was with someone I was in practice lobbies with and was making me look like I was in a 2019 Williams F1 car. So the win was out of the question. Podium maybe? Qualified 6th. Jumped up to 3rd at one point during the race. Albeit a .5 slowdown penalty for running wide finished a respectable 5th. With 218 and about a 900+ DR gain I was debating back and forth if I wanted to go again or not.

Second slot - I decided to go again. This time I was thrown in top split. While I finally made it back to top split...... probably not the best race to do it in :eek:. My first flying lap in qualy someone that just exited the pits just wasn't paying attention and stupidly just jumped out in front of me, then decided to get out of the way, but by the time they realized and tried to move I already hit them and it ruined my lap. Qualified 10th which was better than I was expecting despite the setback, but then someone moved on me under braking, they then light up the wheels and went sliding and GT in their infinite wisdom decided to give me a 2 second penalty. Wound up finishing 12th. While the points were meh I gained like 100DR so it could have been worse.

Third slot - With my stomach killing me from this stomach virus I've been battling the past few days and my arms turning to jello this was the one I had to do good in. Qualified 8th but decided to gamble on softs. Jumped up to 4th before taking 3rd at one point. Extended the soft stint since I was utter garbage on the mediums, I managed to finish 6th and another good haul of points and DR. While this race broke my streak of podiums in FIA I felt satisfied as it was better than I was expecting.
