This has been a really poor game - so sad to see supposedly world class players falling about the pitch like they've been struck by lightning. At least it hasn't descended into ugliness - yet.

For all the actual football that has been played (and there has been precious little of it...), England look to be the better side. But FFS, Pickford, get a grip with these clearances - he's taken several totally unnecessary chances and ended up punting the ball to no-one in a white shirt too many times already, and the night is young.

Argentina have been rubbish. Plane and simple. England have a good chance.

Two fun facts:

He has a brother who is also a professional footballer, and occasional international (not this time), called Kevin.

Kevin did not know the origin of his name until he was 18.

He's been England's best player in the tournament IMO. with the possible exception of Bellingham for the number of important goals he's scored, but Gordon has been great at pressing and creating chances - he deserves a big goal like this!

OK, so Jordan Pickford has redeemed himself a bit with that save :eek:

Still, I don't understand why he's taking such massive risks with hanging on to the ball for too long in the box.

And when Pickford has all the time in the world, he puts it straight out for an Argentina goal kick :ouch: Apart from that save, he's having an absolute shocker...

Let's hope England can hang on here, but it is getting very tight now!!

England haven't done much of anything for the past 15 minutes. Not surprised that Argentina equalized. They just sat back in deep defence asking for it the whole time.
 
I've never understood why so many coaches park the bus with a 1 goal lead. It backfires so often, how are England going to score another with 6 defenders on the pitch? We were doing so well until we started sitting back and Tuchel has messed this up tactically. Argentina were knocking on the door for a while, the response was not to bring more defenders on.
 
England might not want to try and mimic the Egypt playbook on how to win vs Argentina.

Yeh, Tuchel's first major mistake in the tournament IMO was taking Gordon off - and parking the bus has clearly not worked.

Argentina have been as brilliant in the second half as they were poor in the first.

England have given Messi free reign to tear their defence apart, and he's been at the heart of everything...

Well, I can't say Argentina don't deserve this. We looked the better team until Tuchel went defensive. I think I'm going to have to call him Gareth Tuchel from now on. I was hoping he wouldn't make the same mistakes Southgate made that cost us and he's done exactly what has cost us prior.

A deserved win for Argentina - sad for England, but at least the game was won by actual football and actual goals.

Dire first half, but a terrific second half, worthy of the WC Semi Final. The Final is going to be TASTY!!

Meanwhile, the match live blog at FIFA app, Argentina got amount of backlash from the fans. All that being said, I'm looking forward to Spain vs Argentina in the final and France vs England in third place play-offs.

I am very disappointed with Tuchel. I thought he'd be better than Southgate, but he's made the same big mistake.

How could you gift away the match to that horrific team? Worst final imaginable. Spain Argentina should've been a perfect round of 32 if Uruguay had delivered in group match three. Utterly depressing.
