Argentina have a chance to be only the third team to ever win back-to-back World Cups; it hasn't happened since 1962.

Better than staying home 😉
Haha, yeah I know, but Wales will never be in a WC semi so at least allow me a little ribbing..😀 Tuchel lost that..go one up and then go so defensive and just inviting pressure, it was inevitable once the equaliser went in

Spain v Argentina could be an absolute classic, but Argentina showed just how awful they can be at times tonight, and Spain are not the most dynamic team - let's hope they both play attacking football, rather than whatever that abomination was in the first half tonight,

I'll never forget the 2010 WC Final - it was an absolute disgrace of a sporting spectacle, and I really hope this Final doesn't go the same way - but it definitely could 😅

Tuchel can collect his pay and go find another team to manage. Everyone but Tuchel knew Argentina were likely to score at least one after we sat back. Not only did he make that mistake, but when it was clearly not working, he went even more defensive.

Congratulations, hermanos! Despite being our arch-rivals, it’s always a joy seeing a third world country taking over. 🇦🇷

Like I always say, let us at least have the best football in the world, you guys have everything else.

I haven’t watched much football since I was a kid so don’t know the players, but that Messi fellow seems pretty good.
As a Hearts fan, I'm hoping we can sign him at some point.

I'd rather watch a Qatar - Haiti final than Spain - Argentina. No kidding.

MAN, I CANNOT BELIEVE England gave that away in that manner. In disbelief still.

Considering he'd gotten most of the calls in this tournament correct so far (and been proactive with them compared to Southgate) I was fully expecting Tuchel to throw fresh bodies into the middle once we got the goal and Argentina belatedly realised they were involved in a football match. Essentially surrendering the midfield to defend deep for 30 minutes against a team who've made a habit of winning late at this WC? Madness! And so the wait goes on...

In another world Spence's tackle on Simeone would've been the highlight of the match, he's had a great tournament by and large.

Well, here's one possible reason regarding Argentina...

What a disgusting and disgraceful gesture by so-called sportsmen - utterly embarrassing and shameful; what a bunch of ****s.

Yet it happens often.

The Home nations get threatened over a poppy on shirts on Remembrance Day (an apolitical symbol; poppies are for remembrance of all soldiers in all wars), but Argentina do this on the reg and nothing meaningful at all happens about it.

That they're still claiming this while supporting Ukraine's right to self-determination is... about what you'd expect from a group with the intelligence of the average footballer.

Because they are two teams with many very unlikeable players who often employ unsportsmanslike tactics such as mainly diving/simulation. In the case of Argentina they have arguably also been very lucky with some controversial decisions seemingly always going their way. Sadly the pair have also been successful (OK, sure Spain has only won WC once, in 2010, but they have three recent Euro wins and are undeniably one of the most successful national football teams the past two decades) and I would prefer to see other nations win, those that rarely do it, or never have or countries with more likeable people and players.

Can’t say what I’ve seen from their people (ARG) has been particularly nice either. All TV studios and pundits essentially vocally masturbating over Argentina and Messi all the time doesn’t help either.

Of course, it’s all just a matter of opinion and that’s mine. Yours may differ.

On the flip side, England deserve a lot of credit for the way they've conducted themselves throughout the tournament - keeping their discipline against a team like Argentina was surely not easy, and deserves a lot of respect and recognition.

Harry Kane's post-match interview was excellent, and quite interesting - he pointed out straight away that the goal after going 1-0 up was to press for a second goal - but clearly it didn't play out like that.

If that was the case, why were THREE defenders brought on and two midfielders taken off?

And an own goal to boot since they lost a war in their own back yard over that claim.

Yeah sounded more to me like Kane protecting Tuchel, he knows that those changes were a complete miss. The Rashford/Toney change needed to come after Argentina equalised, give them half a chance of having an impact.

Having allowed time for the game to digest, Argentina stepped up when they needed to. It was a spectacular final 30 minutes. No need to repeat what has already been said about England's momentum after scoring but it is pretty notable that England did try to keep Messi off his left foot... so he crossed with his right instead. Sometimes you just can't do anything about that.

I'd say most England fans aren't upset about going out in the semis, it's round about where expectations were, moreso how they went out. But credit to Argentina; they never gave up and took advantage of what was in front of them to deadly effect.

Yes, I guess this is probably nearer the truth - the reality on the ground was pretty obviously not prioritising a second England goal!

Saw a comment earlier about rankings.

Looking at it unemotionally....

That's from 11 June.

So, we ended up where we were expected to be (crudely).

If we were knocked out once by the hand of God, then this time it feels more the will of God.
