England and France both end the tournament on 20 goals scored, overtaking Argentina currently on 19.
Mbappe now is 2 goals ahead of Messi in the race for the 2026 Golden Boot, and retakes the record for most goals scored at World Cups on 22. Messi goes into the Final tomorrow on 21.
 
Only tuned in with 15 minutes to go (after doing a triple-take when I got a glimpse of the live-text at HT), I think the smiles from both teams at the end said it all... an absolutely bonkers game, proper end-of-term stuff (Still think it should be binned off).

The comparisons are going to be stark tomorrow what with the HT show, Trump hanging around like a persistent cold and what I can only assume will be a very tight, niggly affair...
 
Kinda late post but... Congrats England for the 3rd third place after a great match, and after a stupid tactical error against Argentina earlier that costed them to go to the final and learned lession from that match to defeated France by 6-4. I'm looking forward to the final later.
 
Definitely an interesting listen, but basically the Final is likely to be hampered by serious climate issues currently affecting New York. A combo of heavy rainstorms/lightning which can cause floods and delays, mixed in with the massive issues of smoke blowing over the city from Canadian Wildfires. Other sports events around New York have been cancelled or postponed due to this smoke in the last week, what will happen here?

Of all the recent World Cups, I feel that South Africa, Brazil, Russia and Qatar certainly brought and added a flavour of themselves to the competition but from the very start this one has felt like the weight of American cultural imperialism has really been sagging over the whole tournament, "This is our tournament now", sort of feel, not forgetting that it's actually a trilaterally-hosted tournament. Other than when they have played, it's like Canada and Mexico don't count and haven't mattered.

Isn't the Super Bowl just a national thing that happens every year? Not sure they really compare. And it's not usually this overproduced (though it is usually overproduced).
 
It has been all Spain so far, but they haven't managed to put proper pressure on Argentina.

Otherwise it has been pretty dull.

BBC are not showing the Half Time show, and leaving half-time to analysis 👍

People aren't interested in this, they want the football, not a half time concert.

Super Bowl might be national and yearly, but this is the type of pomp and circumstance goes into it. Overpriced and overproduced. Only difference is there isn't a huge push for commercials.

But because it's national, it's very insular and as a result (I don't mean this offensively), very American, which is fine, but that doesn't mean everything else should be.

A half time show that delays the actual football is pure and utter nonsense. As much nonsense as an opening show for the final that delays the start of the final.

Sure, the FIFA World Cup is overproduced, overpriced and hasn't really been accessible in person for the real fans for a long time. But it's neither insular nor American. This is just taking a mick.
 
I might turn this off if this carries on much longer. I wanted to watch, you know, football.

This not only breaks the laws of the game, but the law that governs how long the half time must be is there to protect the players from muscle injury in the second half, which will be increased by having such a long break. Absolute nonsense this.
